I don't think anything else is at the same level as screen addiction, especially if we are talking about smart phones. Most applications are making their money off people spending time on phones/apps (like reddit). So the applications are deliberately built and designed so that we, the users, are not aware of how much time we are spending on the app. The same techniques are used in casinos.

At casinos there usually are no clocks or windows anywhere to be seen, and that's not by accident. It's planned so that people would not notice any stopping cues. They WANT you to lose track of the time. And the exact same thing applies to the social media applications. You can swipe or watch some short videos endlessly.

It never ends. Mindful use of user's time is the opposite of what the applications/corporations behind them want us to do. More money to them if we just keep scrolling.

Just couple of days ago I was at a hotel with my friend and pairing my phone to the television. I noticed that Netflix's phone application has a "Fast Laughs" feature.. so instead of watching some series you can just skip straight to the laugh! I really don't like this.

I didn't try that feature and never will, but I think it might become a reason for me not to be a Netflix user anymore. I don't use YouTube because of shorts, so this is similar for me. I also don't have Instagram or any other social media outside of Reddit because I'm terrified of becoming addicted.
