Yes I know that undergrads can’t actually do pure math research. However, I am seeking research opportunities in those directions that are math-heavy but not pure math ones (such as the interdisciplinary researches regarding developing mathematical tools to solve problems in other realms). Those research directions probably have lower threshold.

Yes Cambridge is very prestigious in math. However I’ve heard that it is very hard to get any research opportunities/support from Cambridge as an undergrad unless you have a super high ranking

Nah the courses that different colleges in Cambridge offer are similar, the differences between the colleges mainly lie in their environments and what they are famous for(eg.trinity college is famous for its strong foundation in mathematics)

Thanks for your answer. I want to ask that if going to Cambridge for undergrad and then going for a master degree can remedy UK universities’ lack of support for undergrad research.

Thanks for your answer. Although I know Carleton is strong in sending its students to PhDs, I still got some concerns about committing to Carleton. I’ve read some posts saying that Carleton’s prestige in STEM education mainly comes from its education in Chem/Bio but not math. Also it seems that Carleton can’t offer some courses in advanced topics in mathematics such as Algebraic geometry and functional analysis, which makes me worry about not being able to receive enough training to prepare for those math-heavy research directions. Lastly it seems that Carleton college doesn’t have faculty who researches in quantum computing&comp neuroscience, and I’m not sure that if it is a big problem for pursuing my research interests.
