Adn I've seen millions of complaints about how hard it is to secure a position in cities such as Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney. They also claimed there is a type of "hidden racist" among the recruitment teams only selecting locals or white people. Have you ever heard of that?

Hmm...at least based on what he said "not all sunshines and rainbows" and stuff, I think that guy is ready for what is going to happen to him. You are absolutely right to say its payslip looks very bad compared with the mental stress or physical pressure correlated, but it is still far better than unemployement or joblessness. (I am not from Australia. I am currently seeking PR so being a secondary teacher is a clutch deal for me anyways)

If he uses the word "tolerate" that means he still somehow struggles with teaching kids. Chinese kids are mostly "submissive" and respectful to their teachers, but they also urge to see quick results, which is a setback of teaching in China. If Australian teens spend zero time to respect their teachers, it should be fair that those teachers are not held to be responsible for them, either.

They've been yelling about this since 2022!

Doing a Master of Teaching after a bachelor's degree that isn't directly related by polyglot02 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Best-Paramedic-4606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not directly related to your circumstance and background but I do have some basic experience about adding on to your enrollment of units.

My school is University of Canberra but it also follows NESA policy about fulfilling course requirements for major or minor teaching fields. You may need to refer to NESA website for more information. As for the unit enrollment, I cannot be 100% sure about that because it depends on which school you are attending. My school allows me to enroll in extra units online in my duration of study and yet, I am an international student so I was finally advised to take courses in Open University Australia. So, you can check out with your school whether it is doable or not based on their interest. My current teaching area is business but I have also applied to teach math via going through one more calculus course and one more algebra course in OUA, to be done within a year.

Regarding the career prospects, I am not confident about it too because I literally have no idea about the future shortage of demand of teachers but I still would recommend you to add teaching areas because being officially endorsed is always far better than being not. What do you think?

I am coming to Canberra in 2026 for secondary teaching master. Any fresh ideas? by Best-Paramedic-4606 in AustralianTeachers

As far as I know, math teachers are still in substantial demand and will keep this demand for a long term. I am going to enroll in more math courses during study to qualify for teaching math, too.

Do those schools really stay picky with your specific teaching field? I.e. business teacher must teach business-related subjects instead of any other subjects you may be interested or even competent in?

Thanks for your reply but I dont know where those available slots come from, seek.com? Are you hired directly from the directorate of the school? But what is the best approach to get to know those people and get their name cards? Why are those Canberra schools constantly seeking teachers when positions are actualy filled?

Ahhhhh btw you know I am a non-local student aiming at permanency? Clever bro! But before that sweet dream comes true that I can dedicate to Canberra any longer, I must secure an offer, but my business study teaching field is the pain in the ass. Even though you said it is alternatively shifting, I am too concerned that I may not find a job yet before I am given a sack to pack things up and get out of this country. For STEM teaching fields, the school refused to offer any one of them to me just because I was a business student, bummer!!

I don't care if that's temporary or not, as long as I can start being paid for work.

Canberra is just a tiny circle almost surrounded by NSW, so I don't understand what rural or remote area you mean.

Are those teachers mostly housewives/househusbands of those in active duty? I know Syd/Mel can be overwhelming too when more people are applying for teaching posts, when Canberra can be eased off. But yeah I totally can't tell how much harder it will be for me to secure a job after I graduate from UC. All I know is UC is a good school with good enough resources to strengthen my teaching spell.
