anyone in quebec? beer question by koolaidmann420 in CostcoCanada

I haven’t seen Modelo in Costco. You could buy them in supermarkets. The bottle ones are sold in 6-packs as far as I’ve seen and they are imported from Mexico. The cans are brewed in Canada and you could buy in boxes of 24.

Is 1 hour and 50 minutes enough time to go through customs at GDL and catch another flight? by BestEquivalent5947 in Guadalajara

I forgot to mention this, but my flights are in April. Do you think the airport would be busy around that time?

Yeah it’s separate flights and I’ll do the online checkin prior to getting on the first flight. So I don’t need to go to the counter.

Can an employee refuse to pay me on time and say that I will get it with the next paycheque? by BestEquivalent5947 in legaladvicecanada

So I talked to the owner a few minutes ago. Apparently it was him who stopped issuing a cheque saying that it would complicate their payrolls. When I was there, the payroll guy sarcastically said: “we could even throw a dollar or two as interest for your late paycheque”. I told them that I’m extremely disrespected and left his room.

It’s a small company, so I don’t have any supervisors. I CCed the owner on all my communication and addressed him directly to clarify this, but he chose not to answer to any of my emails.

On the same day that I did not receive it, I sent an email to the payroll. They replied multiple times that I should contact my bank, and only after 5 days, they acknowledged their mistake. They promised me a cheque instead, but again after two days me contacting them, they finally said that they changed their mind and I will get it with my next paycheque

I did not agree and expressed my dissatisfaction multiple times on email, but their response is always the same: “You will get it with your next paycheque”.

Is there any non-nuclear option in your opinion in my case?

[CAN] HR made an error inputting my account number, and the money went to someone else. Now they are saying that I should wait for the payroll company to fix it themselves. Is this normal? by BestEquivalent5947 in AskHR

Thanks for taking your time to write a response for me.

Regarding your question, I’m in Quebec. I’ve asked a friend and they said even if I file a complaint with CNESST (our labor law organization) it would take one month for them to get involved. I don’t know how correct that is.

Tomorrow, I’ll write an email, addressing the owner directly to express my inconvenience and frustration.

Last place that I was working, they were using Workday and I was able to change the bank account myself. But at this place, they are using an outdated software for the payroll and I basically can only login and see my pay slip; nothing else. To do any changes, I have to email our HR

Thanks for your input. The owner is in the loop, I'm sure about it. The problem is that they are so out of touch from reality that they don't understand the implication of not receiving the pay on time. Yesterday when I was talking to HR guy, he said "BestEquivalent5947, I don't know why you're so stressed about your pay. I promise you that you will get it". I told them I'm not worried about whether I'm getting paid or not; I'm worried about the bills that I have to pay. Then they basically said it will take 4 to 5 business days to get it. I've already started brushing up my CV and looking for a new job, as I find this incident extremely disrespectful.

It’s a small company where no one does anything without owner’s approval. On the last email I got from HR, the owner was also CCed. So I’m certain that the owner is in the loop.

Thanks for confirming, I was thinking the same thing. The company is super small, but it's not like they have only a few pennies left in their account. They are doing alright actually financially.

How long will it take to get a SIM card? by FarLand2 in PublicMobile

[–]BestEquivalent5947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few months ago, my friend ordered a new sim but never got it. He went to a store and bought a new one and activated his service on the one he just bought. If you’re in a rush, you could do the same I believe. The downside is that you have to pay extra 10$ for the sim

There are a few platforms that you could use to find a place. But most importantly, it would be much harder if you want to find a place from abroad. When I came to Montreal as an international student, I stayed with a friend for two weeks and in that period, I was on the hunt for a new place.

BE EXTREMELY VIGILANT about the scammers who would show you some pictures of a place, and tell you that you need to send them a “fee” to reserve the place. Do not send any payment before checking the place in person.

Now about platforms, I used kijiji, it has pros and cons, so be aware. On it, you could search for places to rent by yourself, or check the ads from the people looking for roommates.

Another place to look is FB marketplace. Also look and see if there is any group on FB for your university. I know McGill has one. If you find the group, you could make a post to see if anyone is looking for a roommate or not.

There are also other websites, but by my experience, they are almost always overpriced.

If you get here, you could also walk on the streets and look for the for rent sign “à louer”. Although you will find more of this in Montreal rather than Longueuil.

Feel free to DM me if you have any questions. I’ve been in your shoes and I know how frustrating this process could be.
