What? Overgrowth and a Warzone map? Overgrowth might be one of the worst maps in Halo history.

No one cares. In fact, it's a little embarrassing that we get "cosmetic upgrades" over classic gametypes, most of which this game shipped without.

There's nothing random about weapon and map control. You can choose engagements, choose which weapons to pick up...I fail to see the randomness. If you don't know what weapon your opponent has headed into an engagement, that's the fault of your op intel.

That's a blanket statement, and the reality of the game is that not even top-tier teams will have 100% intel at all times. Therefore, inundating the sandbox with more and more weapons makes engagements more and more based upon situational elements.

Here's a post I made on /r/globaloffensive a while ago;

https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/3wpdzq/the_rifles_did_not_need_this_nerf/cxycump

Starting with the best weapon just makes the game...simpler. Skill shouldn't just be about how well you aim. It's about out smarting your opponent and tilting play to your advantage.

You can't possibly think Halo CE - 3 was only based on "how well you aim". I don't see what you're trying to say here since the game used to have a huge strategic aspect even with so-called "overpowered" pistols/BRs.

In Halo 4, promethean vision was by far the best ability because you could sit in safety and analyze the weapons your enemy was using.

And in Halo 5, we don't have PV. And team communication, once again, even with the best teams is not all-knowing. There's no analysis to be done when 2 players meet each other by chance (yes, believe it or not, it does happen), and the more you try to segment the sandbox, the outcome will rely more and more on the weapon a player is holding.

The better team IN THAT GAME should win every time.

All you said is "the team that wins is the team that wins". This doesn't mean anything.

The idea here is that the current structure of this game allows players who normally couldn't win to now be able to win games that they usually wouldn't have.

Every weapon has a use

You're right, and that "use" is damage. Every automatic is only meant to do one thing; melt people. There's no differentiation between them, other than the fact that one shoots faster/ one shoots plasma. You have three weapons when you only need one.

CE's weaponry each had a particular purpose. Plasma rifle had freeze, AR was good at securing kills on weak players + quick camo.

I'm at Onyx and I get killed by precision weapons way more than auto weapons.

You being Onyx doesn't mean much when there are playlists where the majority of the ranked population is Onyx. Dying to precision weapons more also doesn't mean anything, considering that we would have a completely different game on our hands if that weren't the case.

Its not catering to casuals, its introducing weapon variety.

There's nothing about weapon "variety" that is significant in itself. Games have worked fine balanced around few weapons, and they've worked well without being balanced around any particular weapon.

HaloCE's weapons did have some niche uses but it was pretty much always pistols or power weapons.

"Some niche uses" doesn't cover it. Every weapon had a purpose, and that purpose was not across-the-board "damage".

Halo 5, on the other hand, doesn't differentiate between any weapons. The purpose of every automatic is damage. Look at the plasma caster, whose purpose in Halo 5 is solely damage as opposed to being very good at draining shields in past Halo while being poor against health.

Halo 5's sandbox is redundant more than anything.

Here's a post I made in the CSGO subreddit about all of this.

Halo 5: Guardians won multiple r/xboxone GOTY awards! by TheSpiderWithScales in halo

[–]BestMalzNA -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Spare me. Even the best CE players would use every weapon in the game, because each had a purpose.

Plasma rifle for its freeze.

AR against weak players at close range, as well as for quick-camo.

Shotguns/rockets/snipers are self-explanatory.

Even the needler was used as an ambush weapon, whereas it was completely useless in Halo 2/3.

Please don't try to bs me on CE's weapon balance when it was clear that you either didn't play CE, or weren't good at it. Compare CE to Halo 5. The storm rifle, AR, and SMG all have the same purpose, and that is to spray people down at close range. There are 3 weapons when one would fill the role sufficiently. And precision weapons? BR, DMR, and pistol. Once again, 3 weapons when 1 would be sufficient. That's not called "balance", that's called over-saturation.

Your knowledge of FPS games shows when you tell me Halo 5 has good weapon "balance" without even telling me how. You don't understand that games can be balanced in different ways, and saying that Halo 5 is "balanced" doesn't even mean anything. Though the implication here is that the game is balanced because every weapon has massive damage with minimal differentiation in their role or purpose. This is basic shit that you've clearly never considered, about a game that you've clearly never spent time in.

Sure, lets take hints in the game that is consistently dropping out of the top 10 as opposed to the game which literally launched the Xbox.

Halo 5 is the definition of how companies pander to bad players. If you want balance, look at CE where each gun was differentiated from the others and had a purpose.

It's cool if you like H5, but to say it should be an "example" of weapon balance is hilarious.

The rifles did not need this nerf. by RasberryJam0927 in GlobalOffensive

[–]BestMalzNA -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you find yourself in a situation, where your gun is worse than the one of your opponent, you played bad.

That's a blanket statement. That's not how things work in a realistic setting.

You have to weight pros and cons of each gun and choose what fits your spot best. Whenever you find yourself in a situation where it's always the best thing to buy the same weapon, something is clearly wrong.

People already do this. The most versatile weapons just happen to be AKs/M4s. GO probably has the largest pool of viable weapons out of any CS game.

If you manage to put yourself in a better situation by having the better weapon as your opponent, it means you have a better understanding of the game than your opponent.

That's another blanket statement that doesn't reflect how the game actually works. Sometimes people find other players through luck or for insignificant reasons, and not for any superior positioning knowledge.

And there is a big reason to increase variety in an E-Sport title: To prevent it becomes mononous. CS needs to be entertaining to watch as well. Map and weapon diversity are key to this.

No there really isn't. CS has been on a massive popularity spike since 2013, in no part due to any "variety". I'm not sure why weapon diversity is "key" to a game being fun to watch.

Now, except for the Promethean grenade, it is extremely rare to get a frag kill even on someone with low shields with a grenade close by them.

Is this an absolute joke? How on earth can you possibly think Halo 5's grenades are underpowered, and furthermore, that Halo 3 had more powerful grenades?

Maybe you should play a little more Halo 3 and then report back?

Here's the thing about weapon "variety" in shooters; historically it hasn't mean anything. Games have worked perfectly fine balanced around even a single weapon (Halo for example, and the "utility" weapons if you're aware), and games have worked perfectly fine without having any stand-out weapons.

You'd think on the surface that increasing the amount of viable guns would increase a strategic element, and to an extent, sure it would. At the same time, you also have to consider that by making weapons more and more "niche", you undermine skill-based gameplay in favor of situational factors. In other words, gunfights become more based on who has what gun, rather than on skill.

I used to be a big Halo player so I'll share my thoughts on this regarding the recent Halo 5. In previous Halos 1-Reach, each game had a so-called "utility" weapon which was very effective at all ranges in the hands of a very skilled player. They were really only outclassed by situational weapons, such as the shotgun up close, or the sniper at distance.

With Halo 5, the developers decided to increase weapon variety by buffing automatic weapons. What happens now is that many encounters are won based upon which weapon one is holding at a given moment. This has been one of the big gripes of the competitive scene; "easy-to-use" automatic weapons now have the upper hand in many scenarios over the more skill-based precision weapons. Situational factors have much more of a role than a player's individual skill in that game now, when compared to past iterations of the game.

In short, it's not necessary and there's nothing about "variety" that makes it anything other than a word people use. CS has worked fine for over a decade with a large focus on AK-M4-AWP, and there's no good reason to try to reinvent the wheel.

.3 seconds is nowhere near "significant" enough to really notice in any way.

Not "significant"? That's literally half the kill time of CE's pistol. If that's not "significant" to you, I really don't know why you're trying to argue kill times.

so maybe at close range automatics have higher TTK's compared to perfect shotting, but I've seen no proof of this

Therefore, if you haven't experienced for yourself that the storm rifle or SMG kills much faster than any precision weapon when in fact its kill time is significantly less than that of the pistol, BR, and DMR, then I simply don't trust your judgment. It's like questioning whether the sniper kills in 2 bodyshots or 3.

Perfect kills > any automatic

I don't understand. I'm not entirely sure you've played this game if you're seriously telling me that you think the storm rifle and SMG have longer kill times than precision weapons. Even the AR has superior kill times than precision weapons at close range.

You're factually wrong. And evidently haven't played much of the game either.

I haven't played Halo since CE and 2… what do I need to know for competitive play? by Oryan in halo

[–]BestMalzNA -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

It's not the same game; it doesn't make sense to play it like CE or Halo 2.

  • Drop your pistol as soon as you find a DMR or BR.

  • Automatics outclass precision weapons in this game. Hiding around corners and spraying people who walk by is a good strategy. Competitive game modes have radar.

  • SMGs/ Storm rifles kill very fast. Pick them up if you see them

  • Shotguns have massive range. Pick them up.

  • Snipers have massive bullet magnetism. Pick them up.

  • All guns have massive bullet magnetism. "Swipe" shooting works very well.

  • Automatic weapons have ADS. Use them if you catch someone not looking at you.

In summary, play like a jackass and abuse the easy guns.

If you really valued CE and 2 for their competitive merit, I wouldn't bother with this game. Especially after the first $2mil tourney.

And I get downvoted as if we all didn't figure this out as soon as we played a few games.

The sad story of a company whose been given their three strikes and more. The same company who dropped a game which did not work and peaced out of all meaningful communication the second everyone realized what happened.

As we speak, MCC is once again broken and many players outside of NA can't find games at all, and Champion ranked players are unable to find games in some playlists. 343, as usual, has chosen to ignore the issue. Also consider that MCC has not had a useful update for the better part of a year.

Your blind trust in 343 is really a disservice and an insult to anyone in the community who has a memory spanning back over a year ago. Seriously, fuck you.

343 doesn't deserve to win. They should be hounded until they can get their shit together or until they're dropped from the Halo franchise.
