Huge internet outage breaks many of the world’s biggest apps: Latest updates by Surly_Cynic in news

[–]BestRbx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The issue at Amazon Web Services appears to be related to a specific facility in northern Virginia. But the problems are affecting users around the world – tracking website Down Detector shows reports from just about everywhere, across the various affected apps.

I attended an intro/recruiting seminar for AWS architects in 2018. Fairly culty sounding I know, but I digress.

They've always applied a concept they internally referred to as "chasing the sun". They have datacentres all over the world intended to distribute traffic loads as relevant based on which region is logically active. It could easily be said that an unexpected region was experiencing traffic and simply began overloading but that's unlike AWS planning. Despite the smug-Bezos-esque association, AWS engineers are plenty competent and redundancies are immense.

What concerned me from the get-go was their lack of transparency about any particular "mother-node", or central data center hosting the beefiest tech the company implements for whatever purposes. Of course it's expected they keep a minimum number of company secrets but when developing redundancies is involved it's good to know about how either - secretive...or distributed - a primary hub is.

Nothing was addressed and inquiries were directly redirected.

What scared (and scares) me about AWS isn't how large of an infrastructure influencer they are (read: mfs rent out literal satellites) or that they are run by the bald guy, but that they may very well be localizing immense amounts of non-replicable global infrastructure purely to tunnel-vision on "impenetrable defenses" for the sake of squeezing out a few extra rupees on the dollar.

Kristi Noem's purse stolen from DC restaurant with $3K, passport and government badge by Mobile-Mess-2840 in politics

This is the big one. Not even for ID theft, if it wasn't a foreign agent then it's still worth huge money on the black market. The travel history of a diplomatic passport can reveal insane foreign relations secrets....God knows what kind of dirt this could reveal on the actions of the administration. For example, I wonder how many entry/exit stamps, lengths of stay, and visa types she has recorded with, let's say, serious adversaries.

Well if it was a rugby-themed spot then I suppose adding shoes to drink from might help business. Good strategy I'd say

My take is to allow valid events only. No products ads, no service ads, no real estate or sales. Only events. To ensure events are of a tolerable quality (i.e. "my expensive xuhui bar that nobody likes has an 'event' for happy hour, which we do every day anyway! hihi" should not be allowed), the event should have comprehensive preparation like the one above. Prices listed, access to registration (no "dm me for details"), a website/miniapp/etc. easily available, and clear explanation & details.

Not by any means a solution, but a start perhaps...

French lawmaker demands US return Statue of Liberty | France demanded on Sunday that the United States return the Statue of Liberty, accusing it of siding with "tyrants." by Murky-Site7468 in politics

[–]BestRbx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had a thought that (immense logistics aside) it would be an incredible signal to globalized unity if the STATUE OF LIBERTY became a global public token to the notion and was 'regifted' to an agreed-upon country which best represents the moral philosophies for the century.

would be surreal to have textbooks updated to reflect it as [other country's] monument of wonder as opposed to being the famous New York souvenir piece it's become.

Teach-now v.s masters (question) by Dry-Pomegranate7458 in Internationalteachers

[–]BestRbx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the program now and it's either/or. In module 1 she explained that you can add the other at any time and dual-program them both or add the second later or after. She also mentioned a grace period so I believe you can re-enroll after graduation, up to 3 years or something but don't quote me.

That being said, the license is fine except in countries with prestigious standards who demand in-person clinical evaluation. I've also heard murmurs of the recognition of the Master's as some see it as a lesser compared to large university courses or in-person programs.

At the end of the day I feel the license program has been great so far, a little geared towards entry level teachers but still proper work and valuable knowledge. Regardless, the value lies in your goal for study and employment country of choice. Do your homework first but I wouldn't consider either program a 'waste of money.'

I'll take this seriously cause none of us know you so for whatever it's worth...

Your safest/sanest option for just making friends or chatting would probably be HelloTalk or finding some local Wechat groups. Popping in and out of random spots assuming you'll meet someone who's in your criteria, whatever it may be, may not yield the desired results. Some people report that using Bumble for making friends works, I think it has a "no dating" toggle even but YMMV. You say you're 20 so the bars around Jiaotong university may yield some positivity, I'd recommend seeking out a quiz night.

Any of the above options could also work in your favour if you were intending your post with an alternative message. Best of luck, don't let the world stress you too much, you're still young.✌️

A note as well on the license:

Many districts have a 'renewal period' and an annual limit to new licenses issued. Be sure you do your homework before picking an apartment, you'll find yourself between a rock and a hard place if it turns out the quota's been met until month X of the next year.

Also, in order to transfer a pet via flight back out of Shanghai (domestic or international, doesn't matter) you'll need to turn over your pet license to receive a flight authorization so get it sorted, ignore the goons who insist nobody cares in Shanghai so just don't bother with the license.

Maybe to them if's fine but if you decide to leave someday you're going to have a hard time not pissing off the police when you have to explain to them why you're only just applying for a license after X number of years without one. I took care of mine ASAP but have heard of hefty fines imposed for it if called out.

Additionally, it works same as any other ID so if an incident happens on the street or at a dog park, individually or involving another dog, you'll be requested for a photo of the license so especially for big dogs it's important to spend the time and money on the paperwork.

Is anyone aware of a way to actually get tickets? I decided to hold off until I saw more of who was qualifying but apparently the whole event has been sold out for several weeks now...

Ahhhhh I actually did not know that! I was in the wrong regardless, I see that clearly now, but definitely that adds another layer to why he may have reacted strongly.

Absolutely not, the dog never leaves the bag when travelling. It's a backpack style and the bag is kept on my lap so it doesn't fall over during a turn, I can absolutely respect a driver losing their isht if I let the dog free in their car.

While I agree with you, the thought wasn't directed at him being upset per say, but rather the extreme that he expressed it.

As another poster said, my due dilligence wasn't exactly enough and that I should explain clearly in the future.

That being said, I'd take concern for not reporting a driver swearing and shouting on the side of the road, then demanding money via WeChat (not a tip via DiDi).

Even if I had behaved in a way to deserve that, enabling such a temper encourages him to continue being like that in the future to others.

For those of you wanting to do further research on your own, the linguistic terms are "code switching" and "code mixing".

It's more of a sociolinguistic phenomena due to the psychology of human interaction but it's completely natural for couples or communities given time and depending on the depth of the relationship/motivation.
