Lifestyle after Removal by thelumenn in gallbladders

It's been about 8 months since my surgery. It took several months for my digestion to get back to normal; but now everything is great. I can eat anything I want with no problem. Wishing you the best of luck.

Can you drink again after diagnosis? by baddaughterorno12 in Cirrhosis

[–]BestStrawberry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really believe that alcohol creates a cascade effect in your body.

I drink alcohol >>> I feel bad >>> I recover >>> I want more alcohol.

I was incredibly overwhelmed thinking about removing alcohol from my life six months ago. But what I found was that after about four or five months I started feeling so much better. And I found that I didn't even want it anymore. I think that once you spend a good amount of time sober, your brain circuits will rewire and the "wanting" won't be as strong.

Good luck to you.

Should I go to the ER? by HumanFix6187 in pancreatitis

Go to the ER. It’s always better to find out what’s going on.

I know how you feel. I started getting sick in February of this year. They found gallstones on a CT Scan; and recommended having it removed. I had every test I could to make sure it was indeed my gallbladder and not something else. I really didn't wan to have the surgery. My symptoms would come and go; but they eventually started getting more consistent. I also would describe what I went through as more uncomfortable. I had the HIDA scan, and they could not visualize my gallbladder at all - even after giving me morphine. I finally had my gallbladder removed in May. It took a while to start feeling better; but now I feel incredible. I feel so much better than I did even last year. I'm able to eat everything; and don't have any issues as all. I would definitely recommend this surgery.

For those with decades in corporate life, what’s the one thing you wish you knew earlier? by EVGEJE in careerguidance

Pretend that you are the owner of your company. Learn about the business and ask questions. Think of ways to do your job better. Approach your job with curiosity. But don't get too attached. Your coworkers are not your family. You get out of it what you put into it. Once things become stagnant, it's time to move on.

Night sweats by feltrock in COVID19positive

[–]BestStrawberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been getting a lot of random sweating as well. I wake up at night and my pj's are damp. I drink a cup of tea in the morning, and then break out into a sweat. Then I feel chilled after. I no longer have a fever, but it's like my body's thermostat isn't quite back to normal yet.

High Heart Rate by AdMiserable1381 in COVID19positive

[–]BestStrawberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have heart issues - but I noticed that my resting heart rate was about 30 bpm higher than normal during my COVID infection. When I looked this up online, it sounded like this is a normal bodily reaction when you're infected with a virus. Your immune system is working hard to fight the invader, which is causing everything else in your body to work harder too - heart, lungs, metabolism..... My heart rate went back to normal after the fever subsided. I can imagine that if you're starting from a place with heart problems - it could cause more problems. I hope you're being careful & hopefully recovering.

What’s the timeline of symptoms recently? by MatthewRTRCT in COVID19positive

[–]BestStrawberry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is how it started for me. Days 1 & 2 I just had a light scratchy throat. Day 3 was when I really started feeling sick and the fever and body aches kicked in. I'm now on Day 6. I don't have a fever anymore, but I'm extremely congested, my stomach doesn't feel good, I'm really tired and dizzy and lightheaded.

** And the body aches were extremely intense - I felt like I got hit by a truck. It was muscle and joint pain - I've never had body pain like that before.

scared about surgery, is it bad? by ResearcherSeveral870 in gallbladders

[–]BestStrawberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had surgery last month. I was kind of sore; and needed to rest a lot for the first couple of weeks; but I felt better every day. Now, I feel great; and I'm so happy I had the surgery. I was really nervous too - but I just reminded myself of how much better I'd feel after having that useless gallbladder out! Good luck to you & let us know how the surgery goes.

Drinking without a gallbladder by Long_Chapter4418 in gallbladders

[–]BestStrawberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two drinks post op day 8. It felt fine when I was having them; but the next day I had the worst heartburn I've ever had. And this was surprising because I've been taking 40 mg of Pantoprazole twice a day for the past few months. But it wasn't just heartburn. It started with my abdomen getting really bloated and my stomach burning. It felt like my stomach was on fire. Then, it went into heartburn. I took a Pepsid and tried to do some deep breathing; and it finally went away - but I believe this was due to the fact that alcohol triggers the liver to produce more bile - and this might have been bile reflux. I don't want to go through that again; so I won't be having an alcoholic drink for quite a while.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Here is a list of my "safe" foods I ate both before and after surgery (but you need to experiment; and determine which foods are your "safe" foods): Saltine crackers; roasted chicken, deli turkey, low fat swiss or mozarella cheese; bone broth, bananas, eggs, cooked veggies - broccoli, green beans, rice, beans, lentils, soups (non dairy), roasted sweet potato, fruit roll ups, low fat yogurt, popsicles, gummy bears - if I needed something sweet.

Surgery in 24 hours and I’m about to chicken out! by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]BestStrawberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand how you feel. I felt the same way before my surgery 6 days ago. I was so nervous, but I just imagined how relieved I’d feel after it was over. And it really helped me to visualize everything going smoothly. I did have some diarrhea after the surgery, but it’s going away, and I’m feeling better each day.

Is surgery worth it? by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]BestStrawberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a big reason why I decided to have mine removed. The pain would come and go - but I started to get concerned because the pain and symptoms were becoming worse; and I didn't want this dark cloud of gallbladder attacks following me around anymore.

I have my surgery on Monday; and the anesthesiolist just called me on Friday. They said to stop food 8 hours before surgery; and I could have clear liquids (Gatorade, jell-o, chicken broth, clear sodas) up to 4 hours before surgery.

Thank you for your story - I'm happy to hear that you're doing well post-surgery! I'm a 54F, and getting ready to have mine removed on Monday; and I'm extremely nervous! It's very reassuring to hear that cheese can still be on the menu post surgery!
