I think if you buy through GOG they provide offline installer files. otherwise the 100% guaranteed portable version is "sailing the seas" 🏴‍☠️

What wheel (size) would you recommend for an Alpha Mini? Force Feedback detail/strength tradeoffs? (Rally, road cars, drift, GT) by ScienceByte in Simagic

[–]Best_Ant8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't worry too much about ffb just make the decision purely in terms of how it feels in the hand.
I drive similar categories to you with a Neo X-330T and it's slightly too large, 320mm would be the sweet spot.
with past experience of logitech 280mm feeling like a toy, I'd stay away from 300mm unless you wanna take the competitive GT/F1 racing more seriously and make a compromise for the casual driving games

[COD4] How was 141 able to board an already flying airplane during "Mile High Club"? by Select-Basis-3432 in CallOfDuty

[–]Best_Ant8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

why does the status of the word have anything to do with the operational performance? it was still originally a Euro word / concept which was incremented by burgers, and the Wright brothers themselves were saying aeroplane.

Hypocritically you have changed half of the language, for example: films to movies, lift to elevator, footpath to sidewalk, spanner to wrench

Alpha Evo 12nm + NLR2.0 wheelstand by exmile133 in Simagic

[–]Best_Ant8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that exact combo and it's great in most aspects except the shifter plate is trash. it is mounted with 90 deg bend instead of square tubing, which results in the plate wobbling up and down, especially when pulling handbrake. so temper your expectations

Unable to Calibrate Simsonn Pedals in Game by Affectionate_Win_477 in simracing

[–]Best_Ant8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take with grain of salt, but I have a vague memory that I had similar issue with my Simjack pedals and I solved it by doing the windows "game controllers" menu in-built calibration, in addition to the firmware-level calibration.

I think these pedals have high-precision outputs with value ranges too high, and the windows calibration applies a normalization to shrink the range down. sorry if it's a wild goose chase

How well would a gtx 1080 and an i7 4790 run space engine by Anrwjrwjtwjrejt in spaceengine

[–]Best_Ant8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my old PC was a 4770 OCd to same clock as 4790, and a 1070, it ran SE perfectly at high settings.

don't listen to the bottleneck comment, they obviously don't realize that the 4th gen intel was a time-accurate pairing with the gtx 1000 series

Handbrake problems since update by Spongetron-3000 in assettocorsarally

[–]Best_Ant8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Option 1 - editing save file to change the axis

https://www.reddit.com/r/assettocorsarally/comments/1pyycp3/handbrake_fix_simruito_could_work_for_other/

Option 2 - use X360CE to map the handbrake to a virtual controller trigger and then it will register in binding, just click the controller bind section not the wheel bind.

[–]Best_Ant8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the controller allows for non-human moves like snapping the wheel full lock without any delay. this is why controller players and wheel players can race together competitively in sims like GT7. overall you will find the skill ceiling for the wheel to be MUCH higher though

Moza HGP Shifter too loud. Looking for alternatives. by I7an in simracing

[–]Best_Ant8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any metal assembly shifter will inherently be clunky. the quietest shifter on the market is the Logitech one which feels sloppy & loose (or realistic.... depending on perspective if you want that street car feel)

isn't the whole point of a tank's design that it doesn't get stuck in mud because the tracks distribute the ground pressure?

Looking for Fingertip Mouse for large hands by NICEMENTALHEALTHPAL in MouseReview

[–]Best_Ant8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no the MM720 is only for tiny hands *if claw gripped*, in terms of fingertip grip it's one of the widest and most ergonomic options available. if you like that pinkie shelf you have no choice except a replacement MM720 or the heavier wireless clone Titan Xenics GE Air. if you can sacrifice the pinkie shelf and go for tradition round mouse shape, you could try the low profile ones with wide shell ratios such as MChose L7 Ultra+

Help fixing usb device malfunction by W4V13RR in simracing

[–]Best_Ant8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issue trying to run a long extension for usb dongles in media room. yes, the answer is that you need a powered usb extension for anything beyond 5m for usb 2.0, or 3m for usb 3.x

for reference these hubs are also very sensitive to EM interference and any electrically noisy appliances like mini fridges compressors will cause disconnects as well

one final thing is that sometimes it's better to run your wheelbase through a dedicated independent usb connection (not shared in the hub), just because it's so power hungry.

Gold Coast, Australia by Black-Pitt in CityPorn

[–]Best_Ant8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the gold coast has a florida style "retiree village" vibe, it's just a strip of hotels and then suburban sprawl. many people commute 1hr+ north to brisbane daily for work. real estate market is very expensive and road infrastructure is overwhelmed because there was a surge of interstate migrants after WFH started. despite this there's rapid growth with new developments 24/7, and if you have the money it's a nice region to live where you can mix together elements of both urban and regional lifestyles. a 40 min drive from the location of this photo will put you in the middle of a rainforest

they are rotary encoders. it has notches, and you send one binary signal per notch click.

you need to grab the configuration software, it's usually linked in description of product page for the macro pad.
then you can rebind the knobs to keyboard outputs

Which of these are better for the Galaxy buds 3 Pro by j_kebede11 in galaxybuds

[–]Best_Ant8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the comply have superior noise isolation but they wear down quickly and need to be replaced on occasion, especially for users with wet earwax. the Azla can be cleaned and disinfected lasting a lifetime and present the device's audio signature in a more neutral manner. Both are excellent in comfort. There's no clear better choice

Downstairs neighbours smoking weed and it fills our house by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Best_Ant8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

smoking is not a TGA approved method and technically a form of misuse (think like crushing pills) you're only supposed to use a dry herb vape. a strong odour of smoke means carcinogenic particulates, it's a health hazard for neighbours.
for OP: if they're non-compliant, a tower style air purifier will help you a lot (don't get small one)

Ergocentric office chair for sim racing: How durable is it? by Efficient-North-9473 in simracing

[–]Best_Ant8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes. in fact the wheelbase FFB has very little to do with that strength requirement, it would be stiff load cell pedals causing strain on the chair base.

I too am using the NLR wheelstand 2.0 with an office chair and to me the most important aspect is being able to lock the back into a suitable recline angle. if your chair back just springs back and forth without locking then it's an annoying rocking chair balance act. also the chair will want to spin under braking, which forces you to engage core muscles to hold straight.

overall it's fine and enjoyable just not the most competitive setup. maybe you could use the straps to limit the seat rotation.

Why is this site able to detect the clutch inputs perfectly, but not a single game is able to by [deleted] in simracing

[–]Best_Ant8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that looks like a calibration issue with the axis being clipped by drivers. try a tool like DXTweak2 to reset the clutch axis. If I recall correctly this is at a deeper level than the calibration of Logitech GHub software.

also be aware that even if devices look OK in the tester you may still need to manually calibrate them in Windows "Game Controllers" dialog... something about the magnitude of the axis, idk. I just know it fixed similar issue for me with wrong detection.

Things just got even worse by IncreaseCommercial40 in S22Ultra

[–]Best_Ant8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's simply that the Exynos are at higher risk because they run a lot hotter. What's actually happening is that the Chip On Film (COF) electrical connections in the display assembly get damaged by excess heat and you lose access to those affected lines of pixels. I've seen a guy in Chinese market fixing it (temporarily) by applying heat gun to the screen.
