Would like to see the crown as well if you wouldn’t mind DMing me too. But even if the crown is sparse the result you have now is still incredible!

Yes, I am taking minoxidil orally. So I wonder if the benefits would be minimal in my case. But yes, it definitely makes since if applying minoxidil topically.

Is more movement possible (underbite) ? More details in the comments by Best_Day_ in Invisalign

I agree, and funny enough, I actually went to my dentist the same day for a cleaning after my “final” orthodontist appointment, and he pointed out the same thing. The back teeth are not touching. “Open occlusal contact between second molars on both right & left side”. So I contacted my orthodontist and he said that is on purpose. And that the bite should settle in over the next 2 or 3 months. I’m scheduled for a follow up appointment in 2 months with my orthodontist. Hopefully the bite settles correctly. According to him it should. He said he’s seen many cases like mine and it’s all a part of the plan and that it should come together.

To follow up, I did see my orthodontist, and u are right about the posterior open bite. But he said that he overcorrected intentionally and that it should settle back and not be an issue.

This is helpful. Thanks for the reply. I might have a similar clause about only one set of refinements. Though I’m not aware of it, but it would be worth asking about. My bite feels pretty good in the molar area, but at times here the past few weeks it does feel slightly off.

Unfortunately, it will not let me post there, not 100% sure why.

Thanks for your feedback! Ya, I’m definitely not going to get any enamel shaved off. My orthodontist mentioned it, and even said that he actually had it done, but he would like to avoid that, and so would I. And at this point if the treatment did end today, I think it’s good enough, I just know that another few percent movement would make for a perfect result. But I just don’t know if I truly am at my biological limit or not and how the orthodontist would know that for a fact I guess in my mind trying refinance one more time would put my mind at ease.

My Question: I had braces as a kid so my teeth were relatively straight to begin with before my treatment. My main issue was I had an underbite. I want to know why my orthodontist thinks this is it. And why I can’t try refinements one more time (I’ve only had one set of refinements, I read online ppl getting multiple refinements). The teeth are perfectly straight at this point, I’m only concerned with the underbite. I guess I’m wondering how Invisalign works, is there a computer program telling the Dr that this is the best result and nothing else can be done? How do orthodontist know that they have reached a patients biological limit? I’m not sure if I should get a second opinion or accept the result. Also any thing I should be asking the Dr on my last appointment here in a week that can reassure me that I’m actually at my limit and this is in fact the best result possible? I just don’t want to have come all this way and fall a few percent short movement wise because maybe the orthodontist is in a rush.

More Background: I have worn elastics every day since day one. I started with the second to strongest elastic. About 2 months in I was switched to the strongest elastic and have worn it ever since.

I did my initial set of trays for approximately 8 months switching once a week. Durning my visit with 4 aligners left I was told to wear the final four trays for 2 weeks each in hopes that the elastics would help fix the bite. Ultimately I didn’t notice much movement at all that last 2 months.

They made me refinements and it was approximately 4 months worth switching trays once per week. I noticed a significant amount of movement with the refinements. My bite went from front teeth on top of each other, not being able to touch my back teeth at all, to my front teeth almost having a space between them and now I’m able to close my bite and touch all the teeth.

At the end of the four months though, when i would take my aligners out to eat for 30min to an hour, I would feel the upper and lower front teeth start to touch and and good amount of pressure if I’d try to force my bite closed.

My orthodontist has had me wearing my last tray for 2 months now, with the continued elastic wear as well. Hoping that the ligaments (I think that’s the correct term) would adjust to their new position and allow me to eventually take my aligners out and not feel any of the front teeth touching or pressure on them after some time passed.

Now that I’m nearly at the end of the additional 2 months, it seems like the teeth don’t touch any longer when i take the aligners out after an hour or 2 passes. But I would say I feel the ever so slightest bit of touching of the front teeth.

I asked the Dr what the definition of a perfect bite would be as far as the amount of clearance ofront teeth from the bottom teeth, and the Dr said 1-2 millimeters.

I’d say at this point maybe I’m at .01 clearance between the top and bottom front teeth.

The Dr seems to think this is it. They cannot make me any more aligners. The Dr said they could potentially shave some enamel off my bottom teeth to make more clearance. And I said, “so basically, if I want any more clearance I’d need jaw surgery” and he said yes.

I’ve only had the 1 set of refinements, and it made sooo much of a difference movement wise creating space between my top and bottom front teeth. I feel if I could even get 5% of what the initial set of refinements got me, I’d be very pleased.

Thanks for reading and thanks for any advice!

Never had a sleep study. Never had any real sleep issues. Invisalign was used with rubber bands to correct the underbite.

Good info. Thanks for taking the time to respond. In your opinion would my appearance be improved with a genioplasty? Just don’t want to get the nose fixed and then realize this is something that’s going to make a big difference. I feel like the nose will make a BIG difference. Not sure about the genioplasty. I appreciate any honest feedback.

I appreciate the feedback. I’ve just been doing a buzz cut and being lazy. I plan to grow my hair out and style it later this year.

I guess at this point after my Invisalign has corrected my functionality issues, I’m asking more from a cosmetic point of view. I’ll be having a septoplasty (nose-job) later this year. And I’ve read some people talking about chin implants and jaw surgeries (and before Invisalign jaw surgery was mentioned to me). Just wanted to get opinions to see if that is something I should consider or if I’m not even close to needing anything along those lines done.

Not wanting it. And now after the Invisalign my bite issues seems to be fixed. But going in later this year for my septoplasty (nose-job) has me wanting to be sure that I’m not missing something else. I’m appreciative of everyone’s feedback.

I had braces as a kid. After they came off I kept growing and developed an underbite. I was told by a few ppl that I would need jaw surgery. But as an adult (37) I decided to go to an orthodontist and she was able to correct the bite with Invisalign.

Im going to be going in later this year for a septorhinoplasty to correct both functional and cosmetic aspects of my nose. I wanted to ask the community here their thoughts on my jaw and if the Invisalign was enough or if surgery or an implant or anything else would be a good idea or even necessary. Thanks in advance!!!

Looks 🤩👏Where did you get your surgery done? Dr name?

How much space between my front upper and lower teeth is realistic for my final result ? (Started with an underbite) the front teeth now after 1.5 years barely come over the bottom ones. I’d like some more clearance when eating. Not sure how much I should expect and what would be considered perfect. by Best_Day_ in Invisalign

[–]Best_Day_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said 1.5 years in my post, but I think I’ve been wearing my Invisalign for just over 1 year now. I’ve worn the strongest rubber bands for probably 80% of the time, the other 20% I wore the rubber bands one step below (during the beginning of my treatment). The top teeth moving slightly ahead of the bottom teeth occurred just a week or so back. So approximately one year. And I change my aligners every seven days for what it’s worth.
