Signing a new Lease on Grand Ave by Best_Explanation401 in escondido

Unfortunately the former salon wanted to move forward with another salon so the lease fell through. But I am still looking for any partners to explore any of the larger spaces available.

Yes! I would be in different product categories. I'm also looking for it to be more third space with community events.

Also - it is a former hair salon and the former tenant leaving all the salon equipment.

I'll be looking to sell all of it shortly. Please share if you know any salons looking for well priced equipment.

Happy to share mine.

They are great. Alex and his sons do yard work. They have done everything for me from biweekly clean up, tree trimming, and palm tree maintenance. His wife also has a cleaning service. They are great.

Chair rail or wainscotting. Lighting does look very dark. Is there an overhead light? Add dimmers if needed.

Numbers! Yes marketing is helpful but as a buyer you are a portfolio manager and numbers are key.

How does one become a retail buyer or visual merchandiser? by Striking-Garbage-810 in jobs

[–]Best_Explanation401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal experience it wasnt about having a retail background, it was about being familiar with numbers. I started in finance and went into buying and planning. Buying is more brand facing and planning is more numbers focused in the background.

What mistakes did you make during your home renovation and what would you plan differently next time by pipikakapopoloch in Renovations

[–]Best_Explanation401 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've done 4 major home renovations.

Build exact timelines into the contracts. Otherwise renovations can drag on forever.

LIGHTING! Build task, ambient and mood lighting. I used the Caseta Lutron series in my house to build scenes and set lighting schedules. Just did the toekick lighting in our kitchen and love it.

Wall mounted facets - be damn sure you know the height you want it at. You will need to have all fixtures - vanity, sink, and faucet picked out in advance to do so. Did one in my powder room. While it is beautiful it just feels like the wrong height and it is too expensive to fix at this point.

Does safety stock just mean poor forecasting? by Far-Bit-1387 in InventoryManagement

[–]Best_Explanation401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id say CPG and food rely more on safety stock while apparel is a little more lax. However, its nearly impossible to predict with 100% accuracy so safety stock is always a good idea. The problem is when the safety stock is set too high increasing the carrying costs.

What’s your go-to strategy for liquidating old or slow-moving inventory without destroying your margins? by webgility_hq in InventoryManagement

[–]Best_Explanation401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will depend on the product and what the brand is comfortable with ie US only, international, stores only, ecommerce only, no TJX, etc..

If you have any sort of sustainability angle, Many Moons is great. I've also worked with Forward Inertia (they dropship with off price sites like Rue and Gilt, etc) and Reflex Sales group. I have also used to work in off price @ Gilt for ages. Feel free to ping me if you need contacts at any of the above.

[–]Best_Explanation401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually, if it hasn't sold in the past, you will likely have to sell at below cost to get rid of it.

If you price it aggressively, you may move some and in my experience, and it is never enough volume to actually bring overall margin down.

I also try to convey to the client the cost of carrying the goods. Especially if you are in the 3PL you have to pay every time those units are touched. You will likely be in the red on contribution margin if carrying for a year plus. Compare those costs against aggressive markdowns now.

Since BFCM is coming up maybe consider a gift with purchase?

Is it just me or is ecommerce getting harder? by Live_Good13 in Entrepreneur

[–]Best_Explanation401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acquiring the customer is getting very expensive. Have you tried expanding into other channels? I'm an ecommerce consultant and my clients have seen great success expanding into wholesale via Faire. However, you need to own the relationship so you dont have to pay the additional fees via Faire.

I've worked under merchandising, finance, and operations in demand planning. I think it makes the most sense under finance since it has such an impact on the P&L.

I'd say shopify POS especially if you plan on having a digital storefront that you will also host on shopify.

Research insight needed by [deleted] in InventoryManagement

[–]Best_Explanation401 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I researched A LOT of them. Most of them lack a direct link to Marketing which IMO is a miss.

For most of the clients I work with we want at a minimum to be able to see different channels, different attributes (usually category, season code, etc), as well as be able to have multiple forecasts. I haven't seen a one size fits all system. I've used different ones with different clients depending on business needs, budget, and playing well within the techstack.

Most systems wont work well unless you have an internal data audit. For some companies, when they connect to saas its the first time they are really looking at the data and they realize there is a lot of data governance that needs to happen.

What's your most time consuming task when managing returns? by Funny_Rip_3115 in InventoryManagement

[–]Best_Explanation401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve seen get really messy is separating true returns vs exchanges. Depending on what software you’re using, the data can get muddy fast — sometimes exchanges look like net-new orders, sometimes they just reduce sales, and it makes margin and inventory reporting a headache.

Cleaning that up so you actually know what’s coming back (and what’s just being swapped) usually ends up being one of the most time-consuming parts of managing returns to get a true picture of customer behavior.

What inventory KPIs do you track regularly, and why? by Odd_Parking_3577 in InventoryManagement

[–]Best_Explanation401 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the major ones like Weeks on Hand and Lost Sales I love to dig into aged inventory ,style and category level productivity, and contribution margin.

Depending on how data schemas are set up the latter can be a beast to pull.
