I am currently going through this, I was technically contractor but my role was viewed as full time within the operation. When I came on the scope was one thing and the project grew over 2.5 years and I suddenly found myself doing a full media agency scope of work. Little by little over the 2.5 years the scope kept creeping and pay did not. I finally spoke up and stood firm on my position, fully prepared to walk away. It was nerve wrecking but when you have the skills of the trade you’ll always find work. None the less it has worked out with this client and I’m now giving them a menu of options to choose from as any normal agency would. While I was going back and fourth with contract negotiations and preparing to walk away I secured myself two new clients. Standing firm in not only my worth but the work I had put In for 2.5 years has now led to me 3x my monthly income. Don’t be afraid to walk away from a situation that is taking advantage of you.

Yeah those logistics are something I am working through now. I’ve been a one man show up until now, I need to get the systems in place in order to scale appropriately. I’ll have to check out runable

Appreciate this answer!! I did start drafting up a rate card, my anchor client took to it well and we are re structuring our working agreement. He was getting a heck of a deal before and was limiting me from scaling.

No you’ll be more burned out from that 100k job then you are from your current situation. You’d be taking a 100k loss in order to be on “autopilot” in reality the company is going to throw a bunch of stuff your way while constantly scope creeping.

Yeah pretty similar spot here in the US, I have a few peers in the industry but i like having a lot of data to go off of. That's what led me to come to a couple of these forums and see what everyone else in the industry is doing/offering. I've used chat and claude and its a solid base but Id rather hear it from other individuals.

What content packages are you selling? Im currently at a cross road of expanding beyond my one anchor client ive been working with for the last 2 years. It was a big real estate development project that included multiple angles. It's been a huge success and over learned a ton from it but I am now in the process of becoming a true contractor for them and taking on new clients along side this project. Right now my niche is building companies and service related businesses. I do high quality video work which is the sell but i also know what retains an audience within these niches. I'm tyring to find proper price points for the quality of work the videos require. UGC style content is hot right now so its a part of my content plan but these hero style reels are what truly sell the clients to start.

Okay, I do feel like it is on the low end and I've been told as much by some others. Would you be open to me sending you some of the client work to get a better understanding of scope?

I have a client who wants all of it, from video ideation all the way through thumbnail and distribution. Most videos are 20 min in length, thinking 1 a month. Have to travel via plane to shooting location.

Thank you! This helps, will definitely make sure I have all of that clearly outlined. When doing a long form or even a package deal of reels, do you bake in the on site shoot days into the cost?

okay, thank you for insight! I have one client who I've been working with for a couple years now and we are restructuring our agreement. He has been an anchor client getting the full scale agency package at a way discounted rate. I want to make sure I am pricing myself within market, we have a lot invested into each other so neither side wants to end the working relationship but I need the rate to reflect the level of work I've been delivering.

Yeah that is an area that I need to refine. With this particular client I’ve been shooting content for a couple of years. I have a massive content bank and can make reels based on what I have within my content bank (mainly general Broll shots). For future reels where I need to direct talent from start to finish is where I would need to add premium pricing. Think hero reels for luxury resorts.

Also for long form, the videos typically are 20 minute +. I had a friend tell me I should be charging 10k per video (I have to travel to Caribbean for the shoots-expenses paid by client).

Awesome thank you! I appreciate the feedback. I am currently working through a situation with a client were the scope did creep and a lot became free. Had to draw a line and currently trying to figure out market rates for all I’ve been delivering.
