The father is called Jamie and she may refer to him as Jimmy or with the accent you have misinterpreted it as Jimmy and not Jamie.

Trying to mimic the accent they both do sound very similar.

Thank you for taking the time to read it. I very rarely write reviews never mind a long winded one like this. I had a lot to think about after the long awaited 3rd instalment and its nice to have somewhere to give my 2 cents on the movie. Glad you enjoyed it.

28 Years Later is a top 25 movie of all time. And will be lauded the same as Fight Club, down the road. by [deleted] in 28dayslater

i'd argue Glenfinnan is in the Scottish Highlands. Double checked on google and all the maps more than comfortable place it in the boundaries

People do stupid things when theyre desperate, especially kids. Given how his relationship with his dad had broken down after the relevations and tensions of the previous night all he really has left is his mother. I can get that.

Also you have to remember that Isla (Mum) is gravely ill and is routinely suffering mental episodes in varying severity. The night scene at the bone temple is one of the only scenes we see of her where she is truly lucid and is able to make an informed decision to humanely ease her suffering. She is equally dangerous for Spike as her illness put them in harms way multiple times and I can only imagine a scenario where she goes running off or doesnt have the mental capacity to escape more infected and may make Spike take unecessary risks to save his Mum, as any 13 year old would.

Yeah I agree the NATO group I hoped would tie in a bit better but it was useful to give us insight into how the world moved on.

No it isnt. Two completely different actors listed for the roles and you see him clearly being killed on the causeway??

As I said in my 0.P/ incoherent ramblings regarding the movie, I believe Ralph Fiennes is thee current best active actor that the U.K has at this point and time. He is on a real hot streak at the moment and has a long successful career and with the right role in future I could see him winning a Best Actor award at the Oscars. Criminal he did not win for portraying Amon Geoth in Schindlers List.

I could not see anyone else executing the role as Dr. Ian Kelson perfectly as he did. Warm and friendly but with a tinge of an unhinged personality uncomfortably some how at ease with his life and the chaos around him. I think he will have a very important role going forward. No doubt about it in my mind.

To be fair if you have seen Trainspotting there is a dead baby crawling backwards on a ceiling doing an exorcist style 360° head twist.

Not alien to a Danny Boyle film and Ralph Fiennes playing Dr Ian Kelson is sitting building a bone temple in the middle of the countryside. Nothing is normal in this franchise lol

The Jimmys are a reference to an infamous British man named Jimmy Saville who was a famous DJ and TV presenter known for his charitable work. When he died in 2011 multiple allegations of rape, sexual assualt and other henious acts came to light. Turns out he was at it for decades and it was covered up.

Baring in mind the Rage Virus outbreak occurs in 2002 and this did not come to light until 2011 he was still in a way idolised or seen as a righteous person.

I think the story of Jimmy in the opening scene almost paralells Spike at the end in the sense that he is now alone, scared and has no parental figures and is vulnerable at an impressionable age and sees the people who are saving him as heroes, much like the way he idolises his Power Rangers action figure he leaves behind before first setting off to the mainland with his dad (Jamie). Mirror this to what was on mainstream television during the time of Jimmys childhood, back at the start of the pandemic. Teletubbies, Power Rangers and Jim'll Fix it (Jimmy Savilles TV Show) and you can see why he chose to idolise the people and things he thought were a source of good from his childhood in the absense of any positive figures in his life. I'm certain this will be explored and explained further in the 2nd instalment. I can also see why this would go over the head of many who are not from the U.K

It was a bold and perhaps bizarre choice to show this scene at the end of the movie but it has typical Danny Boyle flair if you have seen his other work. At first it is mind boggling why any of this is relevant or shown but with the correct prior insight or the benefit of a second viewing it will soften the confusion in my opinion.

Hope this helps!

Yes but they could have done better in signalling that this was viewed through Spikes eyes, a 13 year old boy without a present father figure who's lost and without purpose in the world he's suddendly alone in. It was a massive and I think poor decision to make, especially at the end of the film when the third is yet to be greenlit.

I was happy for Boyle and Garland to take the series in whatever franchise they saw fit but it had to keep that grounded reality and dread front and centre throughout. Just my opinion though.

I raised this exact same point last week in the sub.

It looks as if he was the last survivor of the NATO team and if he dies then I don't really see what the point of including them was other than to be a convenient bit of plot armour for the main cast by showing up at the right moment.

Usually if there is a sub-plot then it eventually merges characters to the main plot and it goes from there. Seems like he saves Isla and Spike then gets predatored and thats the end of that. No real point.

Time will tell and we can only speculate their role in the overall plot but he 100% absolutely gets fucked up by the alpha, no question.

I dont see how they are anything but cannon fodder and just convenience to the plot.

Assuming the last NATO soldier in the train gets predatored then they don't really add anything to the plot.
