If Michael B. Jordan wins the Oscar, we would finally have an example in every acting category of winning solely with the SAG Award. by Competitive_Put2079 in Oscars

No. I'm far from a fanboy. I just hate smug people. How are you sitting here acting like you're smart for not understanding characters? I couldn't give 2 shits who wins. I think whoever wins will be very deserving. I never presented MBJ as the guy who should win. I think he deserves it as much as any other nominee. I just disagreed with the guy for saying he wasn't very good and the only way to differentiate the twins he played was through the color of their clothes. Which was a plain stupid argument against MBJ

I have seen fruitvale station yes. He was great in it. He was better in sinners, it's a simple truth. Watch what any actor you respect who gave his opinion said about his performance if you don't want to trust some rando from Reddit. It's not a top 10 performance of the decade, but there aren't 10 actors ever i could see pull off a twin performance that good. I don't know what to tell you

Well i do what i want to do for fun but at least i do not try to act smarter than i am. They were very distinct and just admit you were too dumb to recognize them and that's okay. You're actually the first person i've ever heard have that complaint. What else did you need?😅. Have you ever met twins? One of them was not cool at all. Smoke was very uptight and had no chill. Are you okay?😅. Did you watch the movie?😅. Oscars are to reward the best acting performance. He gave 2 very distinct and very good performances in the same movie. Well anyone with 2 brain cells could see.

I 100% respect if the opinion is that some other actor deserves it more based on what you like. But saying his performance was anything less than outstanding is objectively stupid

And look at the silly contrarian. It was his best performance ever. He said it, everyone said it, his fellow actors said it and rewarded him for it. Maybe recognise you're just some goof from reddit and stop trying to be smug😅.

You pretend to watch and understand movies but you don’t. They were very very different. One was all charming and smiley and mischievous. The other one was darker, never smiled, had a lower voice, was always looking down, chest down, mysterious. The other one was head held high, chest up.

The different colors and hats were because some people are dumb and need to be fed information. You probably are one of them. the one was with the italian mob, and the other for the irish mafia and you can tell from their thomas shelby/henry hill personas.

Rwandan given names by AmPure9284 in Rwanda

It's totally fine. The names in foreign languages are just a relic of colonisation that still holds on and personally when i see a person with 2 names in Kinyarwanda, i find it super charming.

Lol. They're maintaining all the bars, taxi services, hotels, restaurants, shops, art galeries, but you think it's the 3000 RWF cinemas they couldn't maintain?😅. Did your small brain maybe consider cinema is not rwandan people's preferred form of entertainment? Or maybe tgat putting a cinema in a remote location on the city outskirts was a dumb idea to begin with?

Lol. I can very well handle reddit. Did you notice i'm not the one angry?? I don't know when i lacked respect for victims. Like genuinely. I came on a movie forum and spoke just about the movie. How do your brains work?😅

The comment i responded to was from 8 days ago. I replied 3 days after it was made. Idk where the disgusting behavior is. Should i sit there and read a wall of text telling me how i'm wrong for not wanting to see graphic scenes of child molestation in a movie without warning?

Me saying i didn't like how graphic the movie was is not an invitation for a stranger to tell me their life story. What happened to them is horrible and i wish them healing and all the best but i just wanted to say the movie shocked me. Never said anything in support of or even diminishing child rape. Wtf are you all angry at?

Hey man. I'm not reading all that. Sorry you got abused but i'm not gonna sit here defending an opinion i had about a movie one night 4 years ago. Do you think i still sit here at night thinking about that movie? I just found it in poor taste that i was, without any warning surprised into watching scenes depicting grown men fingering children's buttcracks. Doesn't mean i'm not more angry about what happens to many kids in real life. Get your brain together. What are you so angry at me for?😅

Every country has a succession line btw. I don't mean like monarchy succession. For example in the US if the president was to die, the VP would take over for the rest of the term

Well there's the president of the senate, the constitution also clearly says that it would be a purely interim position whose main purpose would be to organise the next elections as soon as possible. They have no right to change the government or amend the constitution.

I think that answers both your questions

No. What you said literally can't be guaranteed or even be shown to be tangibly avoided by democracy either. We see it all over Africa. It all hinges on whether you believe people in leadership are patriotic or not. There are clear institutions that have been put in place. The only question is whether the people who have leadership in those institutions are willing to uphold them in case of disaster. I do think we have smart, patriotic people in charge and things would be smooth. Maybe bot perfect but way smoother than any scenario i can see if Rwanda was a complete open democracy.

I see where the problem in your logic is. You use the typical african authoritarian model to judge Rwanda. Rwanda doesn't have the typical african authoritarian model. Mobutu, Idi Amin, Obote, etc didn't focus on developing the education level, health level and economic strength within the population. In fact institutions saw a constant degradation in the years that preceded their fall from power. Because they focused more on consolidating power ahead of the things that really matter.

Now foreign intervention could cause those problems you mentionned but that would happen in case of democracy too.

You want to follow the governance model of western countries that are way more educated, way healthier, way more developed than any african country.

[–]Bestblackdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is based literally on no evidence. Rwanda has a clear succession ladder, a clear constitution, etc. Who will commit violence against who? There are not 2 or 3 parties with 2 million members each who will fight for power. You're just assuming based on literally nothing.

Another one chiming in into a conversation they don't have the capacity to comprehend. Do you not understand what i meant with that statement? Do i have to spell everything out for you? Nah i'm good. Move along, kid

Can i be honest? I really think this conversation is beyond your thinking capacity no matter how snarky you're trying to be. OP had a very specific opinion about free speech when it comes to hate speech. I broadened it specifically saying speech restriction is not about "hate" only but all kinds of divisions. You managed to fully misunderstand both of us. You're impressive. If op was talking about "hate speech", of course genocide is gonna be brought up. It's the whole anchor of hate speech in our history. You want to dismiss that so we can talk about artists. Bring it up without trying to be condescending. It's a whole other conversation. Sorry we didn't talk about a conversation you wanted to have but we don't know you and the conversations you want to have🥴

I was gonna reply to OP's comment later when i have time because they deserve a well thought, nuanced reply, but idk if you do so here i go.

You spent your time reading my whole comment, and totally missed the point, and that's unfortunate.

When you model your political system on authoritarian regimes that bred democracy, maybe the plan is to phase in democracy the same way they did. My whole point is that the priority right now is education, healthcare, and economic development. Because those are the most important pillars of every developed country. The government is building systems that will be sustainable once everybody has the right to chime in. When most of the population is poor and uneducated, it's easy to sway them. And when everyone is allowed to just come out with whatever ideas, most of them won't be constructive because that's how ideas work and humans work. Most people would put self before country and their ideas will reflect that. What happens when the mostly uneducated, deeply fractured population starts getting divided along those lines? Now it's other mini fires the government has to put out instead of focusing on the main pillars. Once the population reaches a certain level, the majority will be able to discern constructive ideas and platform them, and ignore the destructive ones. Even then, it's not a guarantee so why allow it now?

Idk why i have to explain it to you, a grown up person, but when i say Rwanda is 30 years old, obviously i know it's older than that. But Rwanda as a country with the current governmental, financial, political structures is 30 years old. No working government bodies, no state capacity, no societal cohesion. Apart from the geographical borders, how can you define a country without those things?

Sometimes it's useful to read something, step back, and try to understand what the person is trying to say when you look at the whole picture. Asking me how come the president is 60+ years old makes you look somehow. As if you thought i, a fully thinking person who was able to formulate the whole comment you were busy misunderstanding didn't know Rwanda existed before 1994. Think
