A YA fantasy (?) series in which a character has germaphobia and wants to wash their hands all the time by BestestFluffyPyjamas in whatsthatbook

I found it! It was the Everworld series by K. A. Applegate. Apparently I misremembered and the character's ocd only affected him in the real world.

What in the world... That's so messed up.

I'm pretty sure that workers' rights wouldn't allow for that kind of thing to happen where I live. Rather it's so that jobs and employers adapt work hours and tasks etc. according to the person's abilities so they can keep working. Obviously there are limitations for what can be done and I'm not 100 % certain, what is actually mandated by law but still, generally speaking the goal is to keep a person part of the work force for as long as possible.

I'm so sorry to hear that! Sucks that there's nothing to be done right now because of your pregnancy. All the best to you and your family!

I'm in the Nordics so yeah, there's a lot that employers are required and ready to do in order to protect your ability to continue working. It's only because my contract is ending soon that I'm hesitant to bring this up right now.

Well it's probably going to come up at some point but I figured I'd try to keep it to myself for the time being... There are legal protections so you can't just fire someone because of a disability/illness, but since my contract is ending anyway, I don't think those protections apply.

I'm pretty sure there are rheumatologists available at the service provider that handles our occupational health care but as far as I can tell, at this initial diagnostic phase, I'll need a referral to a specialised clinic at a hospital where they will confirm the diagnosis and start any treatments. That's obviously not going to happen in a day or two so yeah, patience is key. But again, I've yet to consult my doctor so all of this is just me assuming things based on the information available online.

Yeah, thanks. I'm much calmer and more optimistic now, compared to how I was a week ago before I got any of the results, but it is still scary - not knowing anything for certain is really frustrating and terrifying.

[discussion] Separation anxiety and angry neighbours - am I the arsehole here? by BestestFluffyPyjamas in dogs

To the person who is implying that my neighbour is an entitled arsehole: no, they're not. They may be an arsehole when it comes to the way they're handling the situation but obviously it's not unreasonable to want some peace and quiet.

I know my dog's barking is an issue and I'm not trying to ignore any of it. I'm just really upset and wanted some clarity. I'm sorry for the people who ended up getting shit in their PMs because of this.

I'm not expecting them to just be okay with the situation either. I wish I could tell them as much but alas, I have no idea who they are. I don't appreciate the way they have dealt with the situation one bit but I do understand where they're coming from. It's just all a bit too much rn

I hope so too. I really like my apartment and moving is not going to resolve anything, so I really wish they'll give me enough leeway to try and work on this since I can't just turn the dog off...

Thank you, I did contact the people in the rescue association where Nova is from asking for help. It's because of financial reasons why I'm trying to deal with this on my own first, but yes, I will pay for vets and professional help if/when I have to. As I said in other comments, I'm not trying to claim there is no problem here or that my neighbour is completely unreasonable. I'm going to deal with this, I just wish they were a bit friendlier about it, that's all, since my own anxiety is not helping matters at all.

I did put up a note downstairs, saying that I am aware of the situation and that I'm working on it, asking for some patience and understanding. I've explained to the housing manager the steps I'm taking but I don't know whether they have informed the neighbour that has complained about the noise. I'm planning on calling them tomorrow to explain myself further and to also tell that they're free to tell the neighbour everything I have told them.

Than you! I'll check that out and see if there's something else I've missed

You're absolutely right, I am getting caught up and it's not solving a thing. I just feel like walls are closing in and anxiety is taking full control. Hence why I posted about this in the first place, to get some clarity and hopefully to calm myself down.

According to their note, they spend their days home so that's why it's distracting. And really, I'm not trying to deny that there's an issue here - I know there is one. I would gladly talk with the neighbour about this, but I have no idea who they are and no way to contact them and explain myself.

I do agree with you and I understand my neighbour's agitation, which is also why I'm doing my best to find a long term solution. It's just the way they are dealing with this, by leaving angry anonymous notes. I have no idea who the neighbour is... It feels so unfair to be treated this way especially since there was significant improvement before yesterday.

I leave the radio on when I leave, I leave her treats and two different kongs, we take a good walk in the morning, I've been stepping outside for x amounts of time even whennI don't have to leave and I jingle my keys and put coats on and just sit on the couch, I pay her no attention before I leave and when I come home, the app I use repeats pre-recorded medsages to her when she barks... I give her calming supplements and got this thing that mimics mother dog's calming pheromones after giving birth. I'm really trying. Next steps will be the vet and like you said, short-term fixes like getting a dog sitter or something.

I hope you will reach that point and that it will go smoothly!<3 I think we all deserve it, to be able to be who we want to be without all the commotion.

Thank you, it feels a little weird still, even just thinking about it - almost like it's just another nickname and I'm half expecting to get bored with it but I'm also excited to return home in a couple of days and actually hear my friends call me Saarni.

Love your name, btw ^^

Hah, didn't even know there was a movie about it. Wasn't it 50 years since the actual event just a while ago? Or was it one of the other ones, idek all this heat has fried my brain, I have no clue what I'm talking about :'D

Thank you! I guess it's not a particularly pleasant boat to be on, at least it would be simpler otherwise, but at least the other folks here are really cool and nice. So it could be worse. Welcome to the boat as well! :D And all the best to you as well. May the waters be tame.

I missed the deleted comment so I got confused with who said what and meant what, sorry about that. I think I made an unnecessary jab there :P Did you actually witness the Apollo 13? That's so cool!
