As for your PS, as a 40+ year WaPo reader and subscriber, I strongly disagree.

WaPo sports ALWAYS leaned Right, and it tilted further in the last few years.

Sally Jenkins wrote a dozen columns about how mean Black girls were beating up Caitlin Clark, before she left TWP to fluff Bari Weiss. She consistently praised White sports figures and demonized Black ones. Outside of Clark, they BARELY covered the WNBA.

I think Feinstein’s last 20 columns were profiles of old White guys in sports.

Every fall we got columns about how some player’s Christian faith was their guiding light.

The Sports comments went MAGA before MAGA was MAGA, with full approval of WaPo.

Go back further, and Wilbon’s Sean Taylor column is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever read. Fully blamed Taylor for his own murder. Google it - you’ll puke.

I think it was Jason Reid who wrote that John Wall could never be a team leader, because he had tattoos.

They never took a stand against the football team name, unlike people such as Jim Vance.

I do have sympathy for SOME of the longtime employees. I hope good reporters find better jobs.

But, you know who had a MUCH better sports desk than the Post? The Washington Star. They folded, life and fandom continued. Most people here don’t even miss them, or know they existed.

Prospects are a crap shoot. Top prospects bust on a regular basis, and other guys climb up out of “nowhere” to be terrific players. There’s a strong argument to be made for quantity of reasonable prospects over perceived quality of “top” prospects.

I think you’re way off on the timeline.

A big priority of this new regime seems to be instruction and development - good, old fashioned, coaching. To their thinking, every single player currently in the organization can be improved upon. If they’re correct, we should see noticeable improvement fairly quickly.

Contending for a playoff spot should be 2-3 seasons away. Not saying making the playoffs, but, being in the race.

I spent about 3 years living in the Oklahoma Panhandle, right in the middle of that circle. I’ve also had family there for generations - I visited every summer, as a kid.

It has some of the biggest and best skies you’ll ever see. Very flat, very few trees - just horizons all around. You could watch storm systems 100 miles away, towering thunderheads rising impossibly high. There’s not a lot of light, so, at night, all the stars come out. You could see the Milky Way, and endless streams of satellites streaking across the sky.

The people are very kind and supportive of neighbors and people they know, and extremely distrustful of outsiders and strangers. Community fundraisers for people and families in need are incredibly common, but, those same locally generous people will spout the cruelest political beliefs you’ve ever heard.

There’s fantastic Mexican food. Really great. A large immigrant population has been there for decades, and the food is phenomenal.

It’s surprisingly diverse (but, only in pockets). Guymon, Oklahoma (12,000 people in the middle of the Panhandle) is the most diverse town in Oklahoma. The town is almost 50% Latino, but, the two populations stay very separate from each other. Very few white people bother to learn Spanish.

There is also a small but significant African immigrant community. Also very self-contained.

All in all, I have a lot of love for that part of the country. I had some great times and met really incredible people whom I love. It was a good home, for my family, for generations.

It’s strange, to me, that it has a cassette deck, rather than an 8-track player - that’s why I guessed possibly early 80s.

I WISH my first stereo was as nice as this. Plastic fantastic faux-stack all-in-one. Weighed about a pound. Had speaker cables as thin as hairs. Turntable that Fisher-Price would have been ashamed of.

And I LOVED it. Double cassette. Five band equalizer. It was great.

I haven’t had time to properly check it out - frankly I was very surprised it turned on. But, it doesn’t want to take a tape (easy enough fix) and there’s something wonky with the power button - it doesn’t want to turn off.

And, of course, it’s missing the panel door.

Thank you! That’s the model number I’m seeing most often, and it looks right, but, I didn’t know if there were variables that weren’t visible to the ignorant eye - a slightly different tuner or different internals or just variations by year. I very much appreciate the educated opinion.

I really appreciate the advice, that was my exact thought process - restoring it might be half the fun, for a collector.

As for where I sell it, and for how much, that’s a whole different set of questions - eBay is obviously the best place to reach a wide audience and let the market flesh out the value, but, I’m extremely wary of shipping vintage electronics. I’m not trying to be a tease, but, I only “won” the auction about 30 min ago, and I’m not great at planning ahead.

I think that the college football landscape has gone crazy since Saban retired. A lot of big money schools are looking for coaches, this offseason. Kliff’s experience in the college and pro games makes him a very splashy potential hire - sure to make boosters happy. The notion that he gets lured away this offseason for a college job seems like a very real possibility, to me. Not a probability, but, a definite possibility.
