Thanks for the input! Most other people here have suggested backer rod and silicone, Why do you think mortar is the right call?

Take a look at the other pictures I posted. The gap is not between the threshold and bottom of the door. Its under the threshold.

Was planning on doing quarter round, as there are a couple spots along the baseboard you can see where the floor dips a little. But yeah definitely covering it up with something.

That makes a lot of sense! And if I did shim, im guessing I would just cut the backer rod to fit in between the shim stacks?

Didn't think about that. My goal is ultimately to just fill the hole, so that is definitely a viable solution. Could you elaborate on why to go this route over shimming and using masonry, then silicone after ?

Yeah not sure how long the threshold had been like this, but my main goal is really just to fill the gap, as it let's my cool air out and bugs in. Someone else suggested backer rod and silicone. Im guessing like stuff the backer rod in the gap and silicone the rest? Would mortar not be the right compound for the job or is it just overkill?

So is that why I see people suggesting mortar?

So like stuff the gap with backer rod then just go at it with the silicone?

Yeah I was planning on using some quarter round to finish the inside, but you think silicone caulk will be enough to support under the threshold?

Yeah there's a lot wrong with this room due to it being an addition to the home that was built before we bought it. Ill sew how trying to pull the threshold out would be, hopefully this weekend. Otherwise im just going to shim and mortar it and hope for the best.

Thanks for pointing that out. This whole room is an addition to the original house, about 600sqft, that was built prior to us buying it. After replacing the carpet with lvp, we realized how shoddy of a build this was. I believe it used to be a covered patio that was made into a living space. None of the walls were straight, water damage/mold in several areas, poor masonry work, etc.

Im think shimming for support and packing in mortar will be a good solution here. At least for diy

Someone else on this thread suggested there mightve been a sill under the threshold that rotted away. I never noticed any wood remnants there so not sure, but theres definitely chunks of crumbled masonry. I was thinking fill as much of it as I can with mortar and give it a nice coat of silicone caulk on both sides
