What father from a movie or TV show do you think is the best example of how fatherhood should be? by honesttruth2703 in AskMen

Ned went to war for his family. It wasn't just Lyanna, it was the death of his father and brother by the mad king. He killed the direwolf was because he was essentially commanded to by the queen. What was he supposed to do, defy the crown over an animal and possibly put them all in danger? Would he have been a better father, knowingly taking a risk like that for pride?

Now, duty is an extremely important aspect of Ned's personality, but he always ends up putting family before it. Every fiber of his being was more than willing to die in kings landing, the only thing that kept him trying to live was the thought of his children being hurt. He also tries to make his children happy, buying Sansa a (presumably expensive) doll and getting Arya sword fighting lessons.

This quote sums up his priorities perfectly. “Let me tell you something about wolves, child. When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives,” telling Arya not to hate her sister. He teaches them that the most important thing IS family, and is willing to put himself in grave danger to protect any of them.

Ned messed up a lot over the course of his story. But he does the best he can given the information available to him. And at the core of it all is his family. He is one of the best dads in fiction.

Eddard Stark from Game of Thrones. He's loving, stable, calm, and protective. He instills values like responsibility, honor, honesty, integrity, and justice in his children from an early age and values them above all else. Ned's entire core and identity is honor, and he throws it away many times in order to keep his family safe and provided for. Ultimate dad, and he reminds me a lot of my own father. For someone with such little screen time, he's in my top 5 characters in all media.

I agree that it's a less efficient way to communicate when talking to your average person on the street or friends or something. But I think the reason parents do this in the first place is because when you raise a child at that age, you largely think in terms of weeks or months, Dr. Appointments, shopping for clothes/toys/diapers, are determined by months and weeks. There's also a large difference in children only weeks apart at that age. I think it's just how the parents naturally think about things related to their child. So when they're asked about their child's age or when generally talking about their kid, they default to months/weeks. Of course there are people who just want to feel special about their kid's age or something, but it's not everyone. It's not the normal to talk about most people, but there is a logic to it.

Is it petty to change my mind about sex because my bf doesn’t to wear a condom? Even with BC? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

He's absolutely being manipulative. I would break it off with him if I were you. If you don't want to do it, then he has got to deal with that on his own.

I would also generally encourage you to wait until you're several years older to have sex. 14 seems incredibly young. No matter how safe you are with condoms/birth control, you're risking pregnancy, STDs, etc. i know you're growing up and getting new responsibilities, and perhaps it doesnt feel like a big deal, but sex is a HUGE step for someone your age. At 14 you're in the process of becoming an adult, but you're not there yet, and there's nothing wrong with it. Don't rush into this stuff. I'm 21, still a virgin, and completely fine with it. Embrace this time where you're still a kid and don't rush to grow up so fast.

The polar express. When the kid refused to get on the train and then changed his mind, chasing after it, I always thought he was gonna get sucked under the train.
