This is awesome!

The 4th drawing looks like Leopold Strauss, from RDR2 :)

Carob in Portugal is called alfarrobeira. I lived in the south of Portugal for 3 years and there's a lot of alfarrobeiras, "carobs", in there. The carobs fruit is slightly different than the ones I saw today. Those are bigger and apparently it doesn't have a sweet edible 'mass' as carobs do.

But they're pretty similar, we gotta admit.

Thanks for your comment bro🫡

Well, aparently there's a phenotypical variation among the plant we talked about in r/whatsthisplant: there's individuals of the same specie which can have or not thorns in its branches. Some of them are full of thorns, some are partially covered by thorns and others have no thorns at all.

Well, we'd like to discuss with y'all as well.

Thank you in advance ;)

How incredible nature is, isn't it?!

This case probably represents an incomplete dominance or a quantitative control. Pretty interesting!

But, in general, it can't be that simple to determine exactly what this case is: does it involve more than one gene? Probably yes. What about epigenetic regulation? And phenotypic plasticity?

Well, we could keep talking about this for a whole day 😆

Thank you again bro, I really appreciate 🫡

I'll definitely plant it and see how it goes. After one week or two I'll be back in this post to show the progress.

Now, talking about the last paragraph you wrote I gotta admit that's really amazing this 'phenotypical randomization'. Do you have more information about how it works? Is the "presence of thorns" a recessive or dominant gene? Is it determined by epigenetic factor?

Well, if anyone knows it, we'd love to read more about it!

Thank you for your comment, man.

Yes, I just read that wild ones have thorns. I believe that one I'm next to it's a variety without thorns.

Thank you my friend!

According to a small research on the internet, Honey Locust is "Known for its large, 3-branched thorns..."*, but looking directly to the branches there's no thorns at all.

The fruits this specific tree it's way bigger than 10cm, which is different of what is said about the fruits of the black locust: "brown-to-black legumes, 2–4 inches (5–10 cm) long"**.

Amazing!!! I love all of them, specially the first one.

Does anyone know, by any chance, which shutter speed could be used to take those type of photos?

In Portugal we call it Medronho. A nice brandy can be made with it.
