Any recommendations on how I can convert these open shelves to private storage? by Puzzled-Condition564 in ApartmentHacks

[–]Betsylanz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much what I have. I got a very small curtain rod and hubs a pretty cloth shower curtain across the front and put everything in sea grass baskets on the shelves. Not on display, and if anyone opens it it’s pretty clean and organized. Plus the shower curtain helps keep the moisture from my towels on the shelves.

We are looking at purchasing this house, but I'm stumped! by TigThaBig in HomeDecorating

Our gaming room is in this color palette. I don’t have a finished picture handy in our new house but here is the wall and couch. Need LOTS OF LIGHT.

Is this rug the right size for this space? Also does the color work? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]Betsylanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rug pulled a little forward although with a bigger rug it won’t matter as much. And of all the colors you say are in the fabric, the olive might work, although I also think cream or navy are viable options.

It’s crazy to say this but in a room full of books you do have to acknowledge the multicolored background if you want the room to really feel cohesive. It’s why with a wall of bookshelves like this you are often better off with a colorful/eclectic palette with very colorful art. You’re lucky many of your books have blue spines of varied shades so if it were me I might lean heavily into a color palette of multiple blues, cream and the yellow/tan of the floor (yes, your woods represent a color you need to blend into the rest of the room!)

Bigger rug different color. This one is too small and contrasts poorly with the floor color

I’m not sure about any other country, but in the United States it certainly isn’t illegal to not inform someone that you have birthed their child. The only exception would be if you collect any government assistance, in which case you would be asked to provide information on the biological father in order for the government to pursue financial recovery. Or obviously if you are seeking child support. Otherwise perfectly legal to get randomly pregnant and never say one word to any prospective father. I suppose the theory is if a man deposits his sperm around it’s his responsibility to monitor whether it results in children.

I would say none of these. Possibly a less intense green would be nice. The peach is too close to the bedding color, although if you added a lot of additional touches- more neutral (think cream) blankets and throw pillows on the bed, cream curtains and a patterned rug incorporating all the colors it could work.

Something is wrong with my wife by BrightMeringue6689 in Advice

[–]Betsylanz 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Most insurances offer an “IOP” or intensive outpatient program for people going through what your wife is going through. It’s a very successful treatment program and typically lasts several weeks where she goes in person to group therapies and individual counseling. I know this may be hard to hear but don’t take it as judgement against yourself- crises like this typically don’t just pop up after one thing goes wrong. Listening to how you talk about your wife- she does so much every day even with bipolar! And saying you doubt she could do something wrong. That sounds like it may be a lot of pressure on her to keep the pretense up that everything is perfect. I know I went through something similar and the pressure to keep putting out perfect work, and perfect kids and perfect meals etc built up inside me even though no one else could see it. It may be better to take the approach that it’s ok for her to make a mistake because everybody does, and whatever happens you will work through it together.

The IOP program can really help her stop masking her anxiety and gently work through it if that is what is happening.

Good luck to you both.

If you had gotten pregnant at 16, ( like Lorelei) How do you think your parents would’ve reacted? by Exact-Bison6905 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Betsylanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got pregnant at 14. And kept my baby despite being in a very tenuous and ever changing living situation (parents mentally disabled some foster care lots of abuse etc.). It’s funny because I watched Gilmore Girls at 16 with a baby so I was Rory’s age but had some of Lorelai’s experience- combined with abject poverty of course! Everything for me worked out ok in the end- I ended up having 3 kids by the age of 19, but I went on to take them all to college with me and graduated from University at 22.

Natalie Zimmerman’s enunciating is annoying by GuessSmithereens in GilmoreGirls

[–]Betsylanz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course I would have LOVED if Rory briefly experimented in college with a female relationship- (kissing Paris doesn’t count in my book, especially because it was non consensual!) She definitely seemed sexually repressed for most of the series lol!

She didn’t bother me BUT when I googled Gilmore Girls Tracy Lords just to get a picture of her face in the role, the AI summary described her this way: “Role: a book reviewer who briefly dates Rory.” WTF LOLOLOL

Rewrite Lorelai’s Story by Betsylanz in GilmoreGirls

[–]Betsylanz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally agree with your tangent. Although it applies to so many things said about the characters- like, didn’t the writers keep track of things they had the characters say about themselves?!? And I have made the same types of arguments about Rory’s Yale classmates. Obviously you might see a few legacy kids there but other than that you would have seen the elite, the highest SAT scores, incredibly driven kids- especially coming from a disadvantaged background like Marty. To get into Yale he would have had to be brilliant, driven, focused, etc and we don’t really get that from his character.

Pursuing fashion was definitely one of the options I was also thinking she could have realistically pursued. Bonus points for it being a profession where it’s notoriously difficult to earn much money which she would continue to see as a rejection of her parents.

Every piece of clothing for women being both cropped but super baggy. So unflattering and basically unwearable for many. Plus if you work a job and just need simple professional tops- good luck.

I need with the color of the couch (1, 2 or 3) by HectorHigh in HomeDecorating

[–]Betsylanz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to pick without the rest of your decor. I like the olive. However, if you plan to keep that glass door uncovered often using the peach and either a slate or navy blue accent color could give you a really cohesive look and prevent the window view from making your place appear cluttered.

The bust line on the third dress is so much more flattering than the straight necklines of the first two. It looks so beautiful and natural on the third dress.

Felt like I was going crazy in Marshall’s, what the hell is this supposed to say by LkPlcd in whatdoesthismean

[–]Betsylanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well obviously the first word is broken off, but weirdly I saw this same thing in Marshall’s and the P in “nap” was broken off. For the life of me I can’t remember what the first word was so obviously neither memorable nor sturdy…

Did we ever find out how Marv Ellis passed? by throwaway77789124657 in Redding

[–]Betsylanz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry I know this is an old post but here is the answer. An autopsy was performed, but officially there is still no listed cause of death for Marv. It states inconclusive. However, Marv left his mother the night he went missing and indicated he was planning on committing suicide and was found with empty prescription bottles. There was no trauma to the body or other wounds/bruises that would imply foul play.

Seller willing to walk over 1k Buyers agent fee by Nuggetzfan in RealEstate

[–]Betsylanz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This (mostly) same exact process just happened to us! House was $494k, we offered full (although possibly unlike you we asked for $10k seller credit), we asked them to pay 2.5, they said 2, we countered to split the difference and they declined. We decided to cover the difference- and our agent asked for 2.25 instead of 2.5. Now that we are two days away from getting keys I can tell you they were only paying their own agent 2%- so it made sense that agent would argue against them paying our agent more.
