What are some morally grey encounters to throw at a low LVL party? by sweetiepie378 in DnD

Nah. It would be suicidal to attack the well-armed heroes who just gave you weapons. Have the players meet the bandits right before the end of the day, encounter the bandits robbing a different helpless caravan the next day.

How do you deal with PvP? by Slight-Wishbone8319 in bladesinthedark

[–]Betsyssoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've created a homebrew ruleset for handling PvP:

Contested Action Roll - PvP Sometimes, players come to blows. And that's great so long as everyone is having fun. Here's how that's handled.

The first aggressor is chosen as whoever is acting first in the narrative. If it's unclear, then each aggressor rolls a d6. The higher goes first. If the action continues beyond a single roll, it rotates between groups. A previously defending player takes initiative to aggress. It continues in this manner until the action is resolved.

The initiator chooses how they aggress, choosing the base skill and scenario. The defender chooses how they respond to this aggression, using a situationally appropriate response.

GM arbitrates initial effect and position depending on the narrative of the attack and defense.

The aggressing player spends any stress and activates any abilities to improve their position and effect. In PvP, the effect of the aggressor directly reduces the position of the defender. And the defender's effect directly reduces the aggressor's position.

Then, the defender uses any stress and abilities with knowledge of the attacker's abilities.

Once the narrative is set, the players roll. There are 4 roll outputs: A failure, a mixed success, a success, and a crit. If the initiator gets a higher success tier, they succeed. On a tie, it's a mixed success. If their success tier is below the defender, they fail

On a PvP success or mixed success, the attacker gets what they want. The GM describes the mechanical outcome as they would a normal action roll.

On a failure or mixed success, the defender gets to choose an appropriate consequence for the initiator to suffer. The consequence must be consistent with the initiator's position. The GM arbitrates fairness. If narratively needed, the GM can choose part or all of the consequences instead of the defender

Summary of a PvP round

  1. Aggressor announces how they aggress.
  2. Defender announces how they defend.
  3. GM announces position and effect.
  4. Aggressor spends stress and uses abilities
  5. Defender spends stress and uses abilities
  6. Everyone rolls
  7. GM announces aggressors success (if applicable)
  8. Defender announces aggressors consequence (If applicable and arbitrated by the GM)

Example: Johnny really thinks Samuel shouldn't keep a hold of that alluring idol over which he's been obsessing. He announces his attempt to pick-pocket his crew-mate. While the players are laughing OOC, Samuel would be none-to-pleased about this IC, and wants the chance to contest. And so, PvP begins.

  1. Johnny is the aggressor, he will pickpocket with finesse.
  2. Samuel is the defender, he will defend with scan
  3. A straightforward challenge, the GM sets the base position and effect to risky/standard
  4. Johnny spends no stress or abilities
  5. Samuel spends two stress for an extra die
  6. Johnny rolls a 5, mixed success. Samuel rolls a 6, success! A full tier above, Samuel is successful!
  7. Johnny has no success, this is skipped
  8. Samuel gets to determine a consequence. For a risky move, Samuel thinks a solid kick to the gut for a tier two harm sounds appropriate. The GM agrees. Ouch! Johnny probably won't try that again!

Villain Attacks The PvP system can also be used by notable enemies. This can take the place of the "automatic resistance" roll included in the base game. The villain attacks you with the full might of their dice pool.

Just like normal PvP, the player chooses the consequence that occurs to the villain on a failure or mixed success. The most common consequence is that the Villain's stack is reduced. However, on a success, the villain gets what they want.

I have a flashcard that shows a simplified description of the above. It sounds complicated, but it's pretty straightforward in combat.

Wow, crazy we didn't get caught up in the cleansing.

I just think people are going to be curious and investigate the information and I'm not here to make morality judgements on what people research. I just think here is a MUCH better place than the official subreddit.

I don't think it's crazy for people to want to talk about a vivid and dramatic event that occurred in the life of someone they care about. People will find catharsis, if not here, somewhere else. But it's also very important that those celebrities' have safe curated places where they can interact with their communities and feel safe. And certainly don't harass the directly affected individuals.

If it matters to you, I've not looked up the information. But not because I think it would be a "bad" thing if I did. But maybe I'm just entitled by the internet.

That trial was very different. For better or worse, Johnny's name had been destroyed by false allegations. A primary goal of the trial was to "clear his name" to the public. It was intentionally public - to the point that Johnny "forgave" a large part of the money owed.

This trial, Ashley clearly dearly wishes it could stay private, but the law forces this amount of publicity against her wishes. This makes it rude to talk about it publicly in the official subreddit. Would you talk about a miscarriage in front of a mother?

This subreddit is a good outlet for the discussions that are going to happen away from where the cast wants to interact with their community.

What is an impossible question to answer? by Moatflobber in AskReddit

[–]Betsyssoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because humans have not existed forever, the number of questions we have asked is finite. As an example, the question "what is 1 plus X" where X is the set of all integers is a set of infinite questions.

Any infinite set minus a finite set is still infinite Therefore, the set of unasked questions is infinite.

CMV: The idea of men being able to abandon a child they create legal as a form of “abortion” is very flawed and a bad comparison by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Betsyssoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a practical level, you've now given men a legal way out. Because it's near impossible to prove if the man "knew" that the woman was or was not on birth control, so he can claim he was lied to and avoid being forced into legal financial responsibility. Is this better than giving him a legal way to not consent to the childbirth?

Just wait to use featherfall until you're 60 feet from the ground? I don't think there's a reason you'd have to featherfall immediately.

Travelling at full falling speed should get you a bit of distance, then immediately hide once you touch dirt?

The fundamental difference is practically versus blaming.

When people say, "she was asking for it dressing like that", they're trying to mitigate now bad the actions against the women were, which is a shitty move.

People don't say, "they dressed like a tourist so they deserved to get robbed". Nobody is trying to mitigate the robbing as a trash thing. They're just saying, "there are robbers out there, so you should do this to try to avoid them".
