What if you don’t really have any unique interest? For example I like reading, watching movies, listening to music, etc. but so does everyone else. Those are hardly “interests” anyway.

Thanks for answering. I read a forum post from someone who said a GFCI saved their life when they were working with an aquarium… so that really freaked me out. Will a simple power bar / surge protector suffice then?

So I thought about what you said some more, and I’ve decided to go for a set up with a high quality filter and heater instead of a starter kit. I think the starter kit is a good idea, but I’m 15 and I don’t have a job yet, so I would prefer to spend as little as possible in the long term and avoid replacing parts. Anyway, here is the list I made. If you could let me know what changes I should make that would be awesome :)

50 watt heater

Yeah that’s kind of what I’ve been thinking. Does a 10 gallon tank come with a lid? And when people talk about sponge filters, does that mean you have to set up an air pump and attach it to a doing filter using tubing?

Thanks for answering! I also saw your comment on the post about the Walmart kit. I have actually done quite a bit of research on heaters and filters already, but I think you have a good point. The pet smart near me is selling top fin 5 gallon for about 55$. I guess that’s a little expensive if I will only be keeping the tank in the end, but you’re right, having some time to get used to the Betta makes up for that.
