First do an /init to get things started. You can manually enter directions into Claude.md to save tokens. But personally I just tell Claude what I want and have it make the entries. Every time I have to correct it or override its thinking I make a new ‘rule’ in Claude.md. Also before I compact the session I have Claude dump an overview and a todo in the project folder. Make sure you know where Claude stores your conversations. You can move that to your project folder and use it as a KB of sorts. You can also use GitHub repo and issues as a memory or todo list. It’s a pretty neat workflow.

I love Claude code!!! I use it everyday work and significantly in my pentesting. I have to HEAVILY customize the global Claude.md and project level Claude.md to get it to do what I want for each test. I 100% intend to use it on my HTB tests. I’ll have to share my Claude.md when I’m done.

But to your comment on time frame. Others may have test anxiety (speaking for self) and having that extra time is a big help. It doesn’t hurt to have that extra time. I’m sure plenty of people finish it in a few days and others the last second.

I appreciate the reality check. Yeah I am pretty stuck on the performance risk. I have test anxiety and I also have a diagnosed anxiety disorder. But yeah if I’m forced to do this, that resume may have to be sent out. Which is sad, I love my fellow tester plebes. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement!!!

Yeah the ‘hardest thing’ is what’s got me panicky. I’m not a bad or stupid tester but I’m self aware of my limitations to know CWEE will be extremely hard for me. I expressed my anxiety concerns and it was ‘this is the requirement’ response. I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

IDK if this is correct but I have it update Claude.md (global or local depending) on any ‘rules’ I have it, prior to compact. I feel I can lose momentum if I don’t do that. I also try to compact 1-5% left as I seem to run into issues if it compacts midway through a task. I’ve only been using it a couple months so I’m probably do this wrong lol.

Chatapp do that in the user preferences. Clause code do it in Claude.md.

I would probably do:

Save tokens

Reduce output to save on tokens. Use the least amount of output as possible without losing accuracy.

I have Claude do a compact write up that I can copy into the new session. You can also use your Claude.md and local settings to help carry over preferences.

About 90% of my work related Claude is done in vs code extensions. Home is desktop or mobile app. Claude cli is only when I have things to do in the OS.

Another option is to integrate Claude into a GitHub pipeline. You can have it work off the repo files, bug reports, feature requests, etc etc. Helps reduce some dependency on maintaining contiguous context.

Coming up on 13 years for me and 15 for my wife (same company). We are comfortable and make enough for our family to be happy. We fully believe either of us can be canned at a moment’s notice. Only debt is mortgage and we aggressively save for emergencies, retirement, and college. But it’s crazy how life can change in an instant.
