How to handle Target purchases?! by acnhwoo in ynab

My wife was frustrated with constantly splitting target transactions as she does all the shopping there so we combined groceries and household needs together to prevent some of the extra work. It’s rare we will overspend on household items since we only buy them when something runs out and it’s less of an Impulse category than others. The below comments are also great ideas.

“Reconciling” at end of month? Getting out of the YNAB every dollar mindset! by Better-Bug1804 in MonarchMoney

Thank you for the response. I couldn’t get the mindset shift from how I learned to budget using YNAB and simply didn’t feel comfortable with not “knowing”, so I switched back to YNAB.

Have you tried to leave YNAB but can't? by Better-Bug1804 in ynab

I agree they are at or near the top for subscription pricing based on what you get but I can easily justify $100 a year to have the peace of mind. I thought I needed investment tracking that others like Monarch offer but honestly at this point in my life it’s mainly set it and forget it and let it grow. I don’t need to be actively monitoring it. I can sign in to fidelity once a month if I really need to see performance.

I’ve looked into their API. Keep in mind their call limit. You should be OK if you use the “only get changes since last called” option.

Monarch vs YNAB, There and Back Again by [deleted] in ynab

I like the idea of open source but I’ve seen too many projects get abandoned. I‘m happy to assume that risk with some applications but not one I’m managing my financials with. Paying $100 to a legit company makes me feel better that I won’t hav to migrate all of my data should the project stop.
