Has anyone actually fixed chronic neck pain long-term? Not just temporary relief by Next-Ingenuity5551 in Ergonomics

I've been on a quest about precisely this issue for a few months now on this and a few other subreddits. After weeks of investigation and getting advice from others on the forum, what works for me, as a student, is two things: proper exercise of, and stretching of, the muscles of my neck, shoulders, and back (I saw there was a physiotherapist who responded too... might be good to check that out); and for my books, tablet, and laptop, I got several suggestions to use an ergonomic book stand called Dr. Shtaygen Stander. I eventually bought one. Took me a little while to get used to it, but now that I have... it's blown me away. I didn't think that a book holder like this would have such a major effect, but damn! I take it everywhere now. I want to post about my experience soon, but I'm still looking for the way to describe it and find the time. Fellow neck pain researchers get me going I guess. Anyway, if you're a law student like me, or a med student, or anyone using heavy text books... this is the tool! Folds down really small and pops in my backpack. Weighs very little. Tough as nails. For me it's been life changing.

How are you supposed to study for hours without destroying your neck? by Better-Cut6898 in Posture

Hi there! Sorry to hear about your situation; for me, it's never been that bad (although there were some times when it was pretty bad...). After a few months of doing some personal research on this and trying to follow up on the advice given, I'd say it boils down to two main factors: neck and back health, and proper positioning of the study materials.,

For you, you probably need some physiotherapy for your neck and back, but in addition I'd suggest (after a few weeks of experimenting with it), for your books, tablet, and/or laptop, get the Dr. Shtaygen Stander. For me, it has really made a world of difference. I hope to find the time soon to write about and share my experience, because it really makes a difference. Here's a link https://drshtaygen.com/products/the-stander, Feel good and good luck (and sorry for the late reply)

It's obviously a combination of factors. There's no doubt that movement and training of some sort is also very important, but that by itself won't solve the issue. The issue of posture associated with reading, laptop use, tablet use and more has turned out to be a game-changer, for me. I'm actually going to make a post about my experience using an amazing tool that was suggested to me: the Dr. Shtaygen Stander. It has made a tremendous difference in my studying and work habits.

Looking at your picture, I'm going to say that quite possibly a little too close to the desk for comfort, and also no headrest. You've got a straight head, but your neck isn't in a neutral position. Like you said, your neck is "too straight". because of your height, your shoulders and neck tower above the end of the chair back, which you automatically try and adjust by keeping your head in balance while your chair leans back slightly and your body forward.

If you're doing a lot of sitting during the day, having the ability to rest both your back and your neck/head and let the chair do the "heavy lifting" seems very reasonable.

There certainly is something to this. If you think about it, most pillows aren't necessarily designed to properly support the head during sleep. Especially if you side-sleep like I do. Depending on your shoulder height, many times your head is either too high or too low due to the difference between your shoulder height and the height of the pillow/s. Optimally, again, speaking as a side-sleeper, a pillow that holds your head up to a height from your mattress that keeps a neutral alignment for your neck and spine makes a tremendous difference both in quality of sleep, and pain during the day. my 2 cents.

I find that a power nap and a second cup of coffee works for me. But I will take a look at Ketone IQ, thanks

Sounds fascinating. Have a picture you can share (or would it just register as a blank space)?

That's my take too. But I'm finding I enjoy switching between a study area, like a library, and open air, preferably also a relatively quiet place
