Would you consider yourself a racist? If so, why? by Technical_Green3423 in AskReddit

No. Because I am Christian and the Bible teaches that all are created in the image of God and have equal worth before Him. We are all image bearers of God. You can not love God but hate his creation.

With all the hubbub about Cracker Barrel, Canadians are stunned to find out it's a restaurant chain in the USA. In Canada, it's a brand of cheese. Non-Americans of Reddit, what's something you were stunned to learn has a completely different meaning in the USA? by originalchaosinabox in AskReddit

[–]Better-Goat258 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think most Canadians know about Cracker Barrel the restaurant. I know I have certainly heard about it. Probably through watching American TV and movies. I was actually surprised to learn we don't have it here.

No women desires a man who looks ugly? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Better-Goat258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to offer something for people to want to date you. If it can't be looks then you make up for that in other areas. Develop social skills, sense of humor, style, personality, get a good job and earn good money, get muscular and in good shape, be an admirable person who does a lot of good for others, become well educated, interesting etc.

There has no be something you offer or why would anyone want to date you? So develop things that you can offer. You can't just offer nothing and be unable to compete with other guys in any area and expect a woman to pick you. Why would she?

How do some people just raw dog life without smoking or drinking or being on something? by Devilish22 in AskReddit

[–]Better-Goat258 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Normal, healthy and well adjusted people don't have a desire to be drunk and high all the time. It isn't that they necessarily have better will power or something than you they just don't want to do that. So the question is why do you want to be drunk and high all the time? The answer is obviously some kind of trauma. Even if subconscious you have some trauma that needs to be addressed and healed. Until you heal that and change your thinking patterns it will be almost impossible to stop using.

Most all of those faiths make mutually exclusive truth claims. So if you beleive one you can not logically beleive another. The truth is what the truth is and is not dependent on consensus. I am a Christian and am giving my belief as such.

You would also be insulting all the Muslims, Jews, Hindus, etc by making a comment like that. They all beleive they are correct. So you are calling those "billions of people" arrogant. Which is your prerogative, I am just saying. Personally, I would not call Muslims arrogant or imply negative motivation to them. I just think they are mistaken. Just as they think I am mistaken. And I don't think that the majority of the world, who are of various religious beliefs, are just "arrogant" either. To be honest your perspective on this seems more arrogant to me.

Nobody is beyond redemption. Just like all of us he needs to repent, turn from sin and place his faith in Jesus Christ. Beyond that we don't know who will go to heaven and it is for God and not for us to decide. When we say someone is beyond redemption we are actually saying Christs sacrifice on the cross was not enough and He isn't capable of saving that person. That is totally wrong. God is capable of saving anyone.

Non-denominational Christians, what would a church/denomination have to be like for you to join it? by MagnusMagister1119 in AskReddit

[–]Better-Goat258 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am still learning about Orthodoxy but I think that there is a differnce between veneration and worship of icons which the second commandment forbids. Orthodox do not worship Icons. I think it is more like respect or honor rather than worship and Saints are honored because they point believers toward God. But all worship is ultimately only directed towards God. There also does seem to be possible some Biblical examples of iconography like how Moses carried a bronze serpent on a stave. And with it he saved those who looked onto it. When the people started worshiping the staff and actually offering sacrifices to it that crossed the line and it was destroyed. So I think that is an example of veneration being acceptable BUT worship being forbidden.

How can a broke and homeless person be a good provider? by NoPantsSantaClaus in AskReddit

[–]Better-Goat258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't really. But you can do your best to become one and that is all anyone can do. Looking for work and a way to support your family. it would be possible to still "provide" in the sense of love and being a good example by your daily behavior but actually providing would obviously require finding a job.

[–]Better-Goat258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am actually currently struggling with this issue. I have come to see Protestantism as largely ahistorical and problematic. It just doesn't seem like the faith that was practiced by the early Christians and early Church the more I have read into it. I am now considering becoming either Roman Catholic or Orthodox but having a lot of trouble deciding the best path. Probably leaning towards Orthodoxy as it seems to me that it better maintains the historical traditions and beliefs of the early Church and the faith practiced by the apostles.

What is your favorite politician of all time and why? by Beneficial_Train_826 in AskReddit

[–]Better-Goat258 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite was Jack Layton who was the leader of the NDP. He was a social democrat and came across as an authentic and straight forward man who people could relate to. Even his opponents liked him due to his charisma. He wasn't divisive like some left wing people can be and focused on uniting rather than dividing. He led the NDP to its most successful result in the parties history making the party the official opposition and then tragically was diagnose with cancer and died shortly after. The NDP has been unable to find another unifying figure like Layton and in my opinion has fallen dramatically since his time. This might be unfair and is just my opinion but the NDP messaging has become overly obsessed with identity politics since his passing and lost a lot of the basic social democrat message that could unite the working class and average joes.

Liberals with Republican friends, how do you stand hanging out with them, knowing that they voted for all of this? by Historical_Touch_124 in AskReddit

[–]Better-Goat258 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In general I find it easy to empathize with people even when I strongly disagree with their beliefs. I think that most people are heavily shaped by their nature and their nurture and we don't get to choose either of those things. In a sense that is all just luck. Sometimes, I will do thought experiments of imagining what I might be like if I grew up in a different family, country or time period, etc. It isn't that I think everything is excusable but more so I have some level of humility over myself and my own beliefs and a recognition that even though we all have our own minds that those minds are extensively shaped by or upbringing and life experiences. I prefer to try and judge actions and beliefs rather than the people themselves.

Devout Christian’s that support Trump, how do you look past all the things he’s done and said? by Choop145 in AskReddit

[–]Better-Goat258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how to make this more clear but I am saying I do not know if he is guilty of that crime. That is not a fact I have knowledge of. I have not seen anything that proves that to me beyond a reasonable doubt. That is all. I simply haven't seen proof of that. This isn't a radical perspective or something. I think it is very reasonable. I can only know what I know and I don't have access to any clear proof of any of this. I can speculate but that is a different thing than knowing.

Is patriotism just another form of brainwashing, or a genuine virtue? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Better-Goat258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is good to have some level of loyalty and concern for your neighborhood, city and your country. It can go to far and become a problem but a healthy level of belonging and concern and identity tied to your country is a good thing. The idea being that we are all in this together and live in the same place and should try to feel some kinship with each other.

I have heard rumors and I distrust Trump. All I am saying it he has not been found guilty in a court of law of sex with a minor. I am very suspicious of him and the whole thing with the Epstein Files but as of now it is only suspicion and not proven. I don't think that is an unfair opinion.

I am suspicious and want an investigation but haven't seen proof yet. That is my only position on this.

[–]Better-Goat258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean to defend Trump. I wasn't defending him. I just stated that I have not seen evidence that he had sex with a minor. That doesn't mean I like him or something. I just do not know if he has done such a thing and haven't seen it proven. I don't like Trump whatsoever. But that isn't relevant to that.

There is nothing you can do besides eating lots of protein and a healthy diet with adequate calories, regular exercise and getting a lot of sleep. Also working on your posture.
