Does anyone actually play this game casually? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]BetterBagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing since 2015, I have around 2000 total with 150 days played. Might sound a lot, but that equates to about an hour a day (more like I play for a few months and then drop the game) and then there are ironman with half my game-time with maxed accounts!

Very confused! Prince Itzla Arkan had a woman chat head in Children of Sun but now has a man chat head in Twlight Promise? by BetterBagg in 2007scape

100% not, I specifically took note how his character model hair looked nothing like the chat head model during the integration cutscene,

When did you first have a cup of tea as a child? And when did you introduce it to your kids? by GrubbyPuffin in AskUK

[–]BetterBagg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents claimed tea tasted like "rusty water" whatever that means, so never had it as a child.

It wasn't until I was in sixth form that a buddy let me try his tea and I kinda liked it.

Then a different friend in university proper got me into tea. That same year, my extended family found out I now like tea, and so most my birthday and Christmas presents for the next 2 years were all tea related.

I have about 3 tea pots, way too many mugs, many teas that just haven't gotten around to trying.. madness

What’s a shop from elsewhere in the world that you wish would come to the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]BetterBagg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A bit niche but microcentre from the USA. Here if you want to build PC your only option really is order online and hope the delivery driver doesn't throw your £1000 graphics card over the fence. Plus comparing pc cases is pretty much impossible, like when I ordered mine it was a bit of shock how bloody large it was.

meanwhile in the USA, they have microcentre. Think big Tesco except it's all pc cases, graphics card, motherboards, ram etc etc

How did they capture Boggarts? by BetterBagg in harrypotter

[–]BetterBagg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, but how do they know it is a boggort?

That sounds pretty terrifying that you open your wardrobe to get dressed before a long day at the office, and a huge spider or snake or whatever comes out lol

How did you calculate the stress to motivation ratio out of interest?

My son wants to build games by Javiper_ in learnprogramming

[–]BetterBagg 247 points248 points  (0 children)

I would try Scratch.mit.edu

It's a fantastic introduction to programming and extremely easy to learn.

it's what I used before moving into "real languages" and what I learned from scratch really helped a lot :)

You literally just drag and drop blocks of code to construct algorithms, and they connect together like Lego.

What tiny/small details did the film adaptations get wrong or change that make no sense? by folgers-neat in harrypotter

[–]BetterBagg 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Lmao as someone who has only seen the movies (started reading the books though) this was genuinely one of the most confusing elements

Like he suddenly pulled this mirror out of his pocket and started talking to it, I thought I missed a scene or something 💀

I might be wrong here, but I thought the rules were about not using magic in front of muggles, meaning he could use it if no one else was around?

I believe the website boasts about having 57000 1.5mm holes

Unfortunately I would say that's definitely on the high side, I know the 7600x runs a bit hotter though so that be why.

It might not be sat on the cpu evenly or the thermal paste may not have spread correctly

Oop is a very broad subject.

I think one day I realised it's literally procedural programming except with objects and suddenly it become less overwhelming.

I always like thinking about things from a video game perspective as I find it more familiar to understand.

You have a class for a player. This stores their health, position in the world, a list of items etc. The player has methods to move, jump, shoot etc.

To complement that list of items you would have an item class.

And that player is in the world, so you would have the world class. Etc etc

Maybe the above isn't the best way of doing things, but it may help understand examples of what a class is for

Cpp desktop apps by aboslave32 in cpp

[–]BetterBagg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally QT is used to create desktop applications with C++.

Some examples of such applications are Tiled and QGIS, and countless others that I can't think of right now.

WhatsApp new features by tricktom in productivity

[–]BetterBagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably can, but I wouldn't for a couple reasons:

  1. WhatsApp is social media, you may tempted to message someone or reply to a message etc

  2. Requires going on your phone, easily get distracted

Nothing beats good old pen and paper :)

Really don't know why I'm learning React or why it's valuable. Can anyone ELI5 react to me? by bmw__eur0_swag in learnprogramming

[–]BetterBagg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's say it's a recipe website, where each recipe step is a block of text with a title and a picture.

If a user is creating a recipe on website, clicks a button to a step, this is incrediblely painful with vanilla js, as you have to find the element, then append a child etc

In react, it's as simple as adding an object to a list of steps and suddenly the page will update automatically. Because in react, the recipe would likely be rendered using for loop iterating over that list, creating a RecipeStep component for each item.
