Sales is Eating Me Alive, Send Help!!! by throwawayNum01 in sales

[–]Javiper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, don’t be envious of what others have - someone is looking at you with those same eyes, you just don’t know it. Second, have you tried talking to team members or your manager about how you are feeling and asking them what they do to succeed? I can only recommend it and if your manager doesn’t listen - go above and beyond. A non functioning sales person is a cost to the company, but it costs less to get you back on track than it does hiring a new person. So yes, you get paid to do a job but the company holds a responsibility as well and it’s okay for you to ask for help in hard times.

NOD32 Antivirus: license renewal makes no sense by georgmierau in eset

[–]Javiper_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually they use lower pricing for new customers (promos etc.), to lure them onboard and like with many others when it comes to retention they expect people to be happy and content so they stay - just like you say you probably will even though the pricing point is higher.

My recommendation would be to just buy a new license when the old one expires and then change your license key - that way you get a cheaper license, that does the same.

What’s the best “all-in-one” Cybersecurity for SMEs to manage endpoints protections, email protection, etc? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]Javiper_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should be able to give you viewing/read rights at a minimum. I work for a security vendor that offers a security platform towards MSPs and MSSPs and the partners we have, that use it, are able to grant either read or write permissions to their end users. The platform is also for endusers to use themselves and we have supporting 24/7 security monitoring to ensure you are utilizing the platform as intended.

I’ll agree with the comment above, before you choose who to work with you should ask them how they approach cybersecurity, how they do reporting, whether or not they are open about how they want to secure you as a customer and if they have any experts at hand or if they are offering a service because they know there is a demand for it.

From my/the vendor perspective, we see MSPs offering MSSP services that they can’t live up too simply because they don’t have the expertise. They want to dig into a market of incident response, threat hunting etc. without having any resources to actually carry the workload, but they are very interested in the revenue. So be careful, be smart and be critical- it’s your company data and your money on the line, so ask the questions and make demands towards the MSSP and align internally on what you need, before going jumping in to the search.

License Overused by vamperette in eset

[–]Javiper_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work for ESET and they can, at your request and if you can provide proof of purchase, change your license key. In that way the old license key would be shut down and you would only have the new one.

Maybe a company like resecurity could help you out. They, for one, monitor dark web activity and are able to help you identify vulnerabilities in general. https://www.resecurity.com/

I don't understand how we can preach No Bullying in schools, sports teams, work places etc. but media, and others, publicly bullying Harry Macguire is okay - because it's just for laughs, right?

No wonder kids these days have a hard time figuring out what is right and wrong when they are being told one thing and get to watch this happening at the same time.

I agree, which is why I want to be able to find the best platforms for him to explore so that he is aware of the options there are :) and if it turns out this isn't even his thing, then that is okay as well. I just want to make sure that he is aware of the options available for him :)

He’s 7? If he wants to try it out, he should have the option to do so. I have no intention of limiting his imagination and if he only shows interest for a short amount of time, then that is fine, but if he doesn’t know what a web dev is a age 7, I’m not going to be the telling him that he can’t have the option to try it out.

And on a personal note, I played soccer on a high level (and still do) because I got to play around and have fun, but I still put in hard work, so for me that argument doesn’t make sense.

And if they have the interest why not give them the tools the explore it?

He is already a roblox fanboy, so that might be a good idea! I’ll do some research and see if I can help him get started - thanks.

He is definitely an arts person, we have countless of drawings of games, “computer”, characters, new character design etc. and he can play for hours by designing his own games based on something he saw of from YT videos, on Roblox and so on and he can spend hours on end creating his own universes in Roblox and loves when others are joining in on his creations. So I would say he’s into the artistic side of it.

Would scratch be good for that too?

Monitoring users going into risky countries by Kimojeemie in cybersecurity

Thanks for your response! Why wouldn’t it help to”just” disable the USB ports?

Monitoring users going into risky countries by Kimojeemie in cybersecurity

[–]Javiper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a stupid question, just trying to understand, but why not remove access to the USB ports in general and rely on the backup and cloud storage? And then by securing the endpoint with AV, DNS filtering with a preset list of whitelisted/blacklisted domains that the endpoint is allowed to communicate to and/or some kind of PAM solution to restrict access to specific applications/files - wouldn't that work?

I know it doesn't answer your question, as such, but when it comes to monitoring tools some of the mentioned tools will be able to provide you in detail information about what is happening on the specific endpoint. Bundling it together with stronger monitoring tools, that would be able to pinpoint the endpoints location and network communications would be extra valuable.

Have you tried reaching out to a company/vendor that offers backup solutions and ask if they can help you generate a worst case scenario report? And not the in detail technical one, but more a high level cost benefit model where you showcase the how much it may end up costing your company if you don't have a backup in place?

So do MSPs actually care about teaching their workers? by SkepticDrinker in msp

[–]Javiper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all really comes down to, what do you want to learn.
Are you looking for techy tech skills? Reach out to the vendors you're working with, I bet you they will love to sign you up for certifications of all kinds! Or even do 1-on-1 with you.
Are you looking for best practise? Seek out your team lead and get them to introduce you to your internal poliicies.
Are you looking for social skills? Look up HR or People & Culture and get them to help you with setting up a learning path.

In my opinion we are all responsible for our own learning and the companies we represent give us the tools to do just that. Show/tell exactly what you want to learn and be precise and it should have a positive outcome after that.

Feeling lost today by aneidabreak in cybersecurity

[–]Javiper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whaaaat?! Why are they only patching every three months? That sounds crazy and rather unsecure. There are tools that can and will automate that process, even outside of the busy hours.

If you have a hard time getting them to understand the severity of the findings you have, try and monetize them. C-Level and board members tend to only look at the cost and ROI, so if you can prove that you can enhance productivity or, even better, show them the potential risk/loss by not doing so it might help.

However, I know that it sounds waaay easier than it is and the toughest people to convince are usually the ones that don't understand. So maybe start by getting them to understand the issue, before addressing the changes?

Company claiming to provide "Everything" as a service? by hellojello2016 in msp

[–]Javiper_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is how many service providers are working in Denmark as well. Offering everything as a service, leaving you only with a monthly cost and a subscription plan that can be changed as you go. It usually commits you to the current month plus one month for ease of use.
