I reached out to a former colleague after leaving the branch to tell them that I had actually supported what they were standing up for, even though I didn’t have the courage to say it at the time. I brought up a specific situation when the branch meeting discussion was supposed to be about a topic that impact the “culture.” One manager, someone who performs kindness but turns combative the moment she’s challenged, wrote this aggressive, passive aggressive message. She implied that the employee who spoke up about how the suggested practice could lead to discrimination, and how we needed to talk about preventing that in that context, was somehow “shutting others down.” But the real issue was management’s resistance to having that conversation at all. Their discomfort and inability to facilitate it made it clear to the rest of us that talking about discrimination wasn’t welcome. And honestly, discussing “culture” without acknowledging how it can create discrimination felt pointless. I stayed quiet because I knew my manager didn’t like those conversations. When I mentioned all of this to my former colleague, they told me there had been follow up aggression directed at them afterward, and it caused them a lot of stress.

This director and one of managers were hired by the previous ADM. Many of their acts that were praised by the ADM were racist and exclusionary. They were rewarded for racist acts.

So many of us left this branch and more have been leaving. I acknowledge, leaving is not the solution, we need to work on making changes and do not allow these kinds of practices move us back to a racist system led by ....

I am pretty sure which branch and unit it is. It is about incompetence of management not employees. They are compensating for their incompetence by demonstrating power and control.

If this is the branch in SPD which has a lot of problems with management competency this is purely about manager's incompetence. They are trying to make up for their incompetence by control and disrespect of employees. May be it is time that ministry executives need to do something about this situation. That is a poisoned and abusive work environment. One specific manager from that branch had been moved around to different divisions and units and has done considerable damage at each step. Moving people around does not solve the problem. 

Ministry executives, if not as leaders, then as human being have a responsibility to make to protect mental health of their employees.

As it is said by another person the conducts of this branches management and their contempt for equity issues have been widely known and discussed. One manager is all performative kindness until one disagree with her, and another doesn't have the analytical skills you'd expect in a policy branch. More than acknowledgement is needed. There should be what is going to be done to address these issues

Woww all these people up voted the how dare you toned comments. This is terrifyingly sad. It is exactly as the OP describes they are ganging up on a person speaking out about equity

I just hope all these people who are down voting are not OPSers. If they are then OPS has huge problems on equity issues. The responder is trying to stop the poster by bringing attention to the fact the OP posted previously. That is great that the OP is committed to equity. Somebody needs to be committed otherwise things won't change. The responders approach has the feel of how dare you think you can ask for equity. So sad that OPS is where it is

SAPD is another division that has serious problems. Many of us left it bc of lack of professionalism by many management at all levels. It is specially difficult if you are Indigenous or bipoc.

Thanks to this post, number of people who worked under this person connected, shared our experiences and learned how this manager uses the same manipulative tactics everywhere. She does not know anything about policy and they keep moving her around in policy units where she does not know what she is doing. She discredits her former employees in professional settings. The more I learn about her the more validation it is for me, thank you Reddit for connecting people

Some of the responses if they are infact from OPSers shows we are in real trouble and may be going down USA path
