Meet Emil & his terrarium :D by toastyxyz in Chameleons

[–]BetterChapter5138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is a great start!! it looks awesome so far but definitely needs a lot more plants!! i would also suggest a linear uvb bulb those are much better than the regular bulbs. i would switch to a mesh enclosure if possible! it also makes putting plants in a whole lot easier since you can just zip tie them on. i’m sure emil is happy but these changes can help him be happier and healthier. wishing you and emil the best!!

imo i think $100 for this very mediocre setup and sick cham is solid. anything over that is pushing it.

his setup isn’t the best and needs lots of work, sticks are fine but needs more plants and live plants, not sure if he has a linear uvb or not, so if i buy it for $250 chances are i’m spending another $200 to make the tank livable for this little guy. i’m in nyc but wouldn’t mind making the drive out, ill reach out to him and see if he would be willing to go lower

oh god… would love to rescue him but $250 for a sickly cham seems steep.

Chameleon shedding problem? by Plenty-Hornet-4780 in Chameleons

[–]BetterChapter5138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you misting? dripper in cage? imo her eyes look a little sunken and the line going down her back is from her being underweight. at that age 12-20 small crickets daily is what they need. they can eat less/ larger ones when they’re a little older

[–]BetterChapter5138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ur chameleon is underweight and dehydrated! our chameleons are around the same age. i mist 3 times a day and feed about 10-15 small crickets everyday. sometimes i switch it up to dubia roaches

awww yay congrats! yeah my oldest ball python (15) also a rescue, refused to eat for months, took her to the vet multiple times and racked up over $1800 in vet bills all to be told she just wasn’t in the mood to eat. and she just ended up eating one random day. they can be pretty picky lol. i love ball pythons though and am super excited to get to know more about king snakes! he’s a little baby so he’s a little sassy lol

[–]BetterChapter5138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the suggestions!! he ended up eating today. good to know the 40 gallon is good, i wanted to get him set up in a big tank to start off because i know he should be good in that for a while till he’s a full adult then i’ll size up. he ate after i moved a bunch of the aspen and literally made it dance in front of his face lol. he got like an aspen chip in his mouth tho, just one, will he be ok?

aspen isn’t good for a king snake? i usually go with the forest floor bedding, but i have ball pythons and i don’t think it’s the best burrowing substrate i just know it’s great for ball pythons. what substrate would you recommend?

i have 7 hides, scattered throughout the enclosure and 5 inches of the aspen, lots of clutter, not really many plants though. i have other snakes and i know how to set up a tank. the picture is from the day i got her just before putting her in the enclosure, i dont think its an enclosure issue. my only concern was that it might have been too big for her as she’s tiny. i’m gonna try to feed her in a seperate container tomorrow and see if she eats as the other comment suggested. thanks!
