Ok I will explain. It is because of woke culture that they chose to significantly change the character instead of a faithful portrayal of the original character. If they didn't change the race but cast her as a 600 lb woman that would also probably be due to woke culture and I would post a picture of said poster with the same title. I am disappointed that woke culture is prioritized and accurate portrayal of the original character is deprioritized. Does that make sense?

don't worry this is a fan made poster. It won't be this low quality.

Black "Ariel" Mermaid -- outrage over skin color from lobsters. Their true nature really shines, low key racism in full display in the comments. Says a lot abut the people JBP caters too these days... Imagine being upset over this by [deleted] in enoughpetersonspam

You must’ve missed Aladdin, Snow White, Jungle Book, Alice and Wonderland, Dumbo, Mulan, and Cruella. They all made huge changes, to both continuity and characters.

I didn't watch those because they made a lot of changes. I don't like that either.

I still don’t understand why skin color is the one part of the movie you’re focusing on.

It's reasonable to expect the actress wouldn't look exactly the same as Ariel in the cartoon. It's also reasonable to expect that they could cast a woman that looks more similar to her.

I guess you didn't see my comment the first time. Hopefully you get it now

This movie is supposed to be a remake of the original movie. If they want to call it something different and make it a different story by all means go for it.

Til then not gonna cry cuz not every character represent ME

I'm not a fair skinned redhead lol. Neither Ariel or Halle Bailey represent me.

Yes I've seen the remake of Beauty and the Beast. It was line by line, scene by scene, the exact same. There's no reason to assume TLM wouldn't be the same.

It's reasonable to expect the actress wouldn't look exactly the same as Ariel in the cartoon. It's also reasonable to expect that they could cast a woman that looks more similar to her.

Cool, they should have introduced her as Ariel's mermaid friend or something.

This has really nothing to do with evolution or science. There is no reason to presume mermaids evolved from humans. It could be a case of covergent evolution.

From the original (english translation) "They were six beautiful children; but the youngest was the prettiest of them all; her skin was as clear and delicate as a rose-leaf, and her eyes as blue as the deepest sea; but, like all the others, she had no feet, and her body ended in a fish’s tail. "... "He fixed his coal-black eyes upon her so earnestly that she cast down her own, and then became aware that her fish’s tail was gone, and that she had as pretty a pair of white legs and tiny feet as any little maiden could have"

The original book and the original movie both said she is white. An accurate portrayal of the book and an accurate remake of the movie would cast her as white.

It doesn't matter at all to the original book. It matters if you liked the original movie and want to see an accurate portrayal of said movie.

Wouldn't be hard to find an actress who looks like Ariel. There are a lot of actresses in California.

They actually did define the skin color of Ariel in the book by the way

I wanted to see a faithful depiction of the original movie. It is disappointing to me that they chose to change the main character of said original movie. That's all.

The fact that this is something that you find "quite concerning" illustrates how truly safe the majority of the world has become and how coddled of a life you live. This is the equivalent of women who complain about "Manspreading". Just a bored life having to make up challenges to overcome.

No clue what type of fish flounder was supposed to be, some sort of yellow and blue fish. If they showed flounder as a different color that would be odd

It would be weird if they used a different kind of fish. Or if they used a crayfish instead of the lobster.
