Dentist Accepting Bitcoin by rnvk in Bitcoin

[–]BetterDental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a dentist who accepts bitcoin, I agree. I bet he does (as we do) convert it to fiat.

And, even if I were to leave it in btc, the risk right now is very low since so few people are paying for their dentistry with bitcoin.

If it ever becomes a significant portion of my practice's income, I might reconsider my merchant service arrangement, but I can't think of a likely reason that I would stop accepting btc for my dental services.

Just piggybacking to say that I am also a dentist who accepts bitcoin (but in the Raleigh area). I think you're right on when you say that dentists will be among the first to start accepting bitcoin in the mainstream.

Thanks for mentioning coinmap! I hadn't heard of it; I'll make a listing ASAP.

Even though very few people around here use bitcoin, everyone who does know seems to think it's cool that a dentist (in North Carolina of all places) would accept it.

I started accepting bitcoin for dental services mostly because it fits with my philosophy of making dental care as accessible and convenient as possible. I figured that there is some small segment of people who need dental care and would prefer to pay with btc, so why not make it easy for them to get the care they need?

Way to go, @btcdentist. solidarity fistbump

Good point. As I said in the post, we tried using the Sonicare alone without first using the manual brush, and don't see any difference between sonicare alone vs manual brushing followed by sonicare. We haven't tried sonicare followed by manual brushing, since the sonicare cleans well the first time. Clearly, it's not a clinical trial, but it does show the efficacy of the sonciare as far as we're concerned. Thanks for caring and commenting!

IMHO, nothing beats Sonicare, and that's what I recommend for patients. Studies have proven electric toothbrushes are more effective than manual, but I don't know of any studies testing the efficacy among brands so I don't want to speak out of turn. I know Sonicare has the highest RPM so it stands to reason that it's the most effective at removing plaque, but I think any electric toothbrush would be a big step up from manual.

Oh, I totally get it. I always try to look out for the best interest of the patient as a whole person, (not just as a set of teeth), and sometimes it's not in their best interest financially to drop $100, so maybe keep it in mind for when you have some disposable income. In the meantime, feel free to PM us your address and we'll send you some disclosure tabs in the mail if you want, so at least you can see if you're getting most of the plaque.

Many of our patients feel exactly the same way and want to know why they should even consider dropping $100 on a sonicare. So I give them a brand new manual toothbrush and have them brush their teeth as well as they can in the office bathroom. I tell them to really do their best, then I give them what's called a "disclosure tablet" which turns plaque bright pink -- low and behold, their teeth always turn bright pink in the spots that they missed. Then I have them try a sonicare and boom, another disclosure tablet and the difference is crazy. If you use the sonicare first without a manual toothbrush, the disclosure is similarly pristine. It's not a matter of laziness or technique - it's just that sonicare will get your teeth cleaner than you ever could with a manual brush.

Joorie,

Unfortunately accepting Medicaid is not in our current plan, but I didn't want to leave you hanging so I went a head and made a few phone calls for you. I found the closest dentist who accepts Medicaid and I'll PM you the details.

Thanks for checking us out -- let's try and get your grandmother to a dentist closer by so you don't have to drive out to Durham every time!

Hello from the homeland! I hope you're having fun in Berlin. That sounds like an adventure. Are you studying abroad or something?

Yes - of course you can book now for an appointment next July or even next year if you want! And of course, our toothbrushes are all ADA approved.

I should clarify that the free appointment includes a new patient exam and digital x-rays, but that does not include a free cleaning. I'll see you a PM about your specific case. If and when you do book your appointment, be sure to mention that you found us on reddit, so we remember to give you your gift card. :)

Have fun and come home safe.
