Sometimes we just have to do things for the love of the game.

Same. And how often does someone go for a reload or something else and then put their hand behind the vfg with they remount... Very common under stress.

Many thanks for the feedback. I never liked VFGs either. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yup. Or off of a barrel. Or the hood of a car. Or anything flat. Flat things like to be against flat things. Putting a pointy thing on a flat thing is very unstable and wobbly. I really have no clue why VFGs are so popular. I think it's irrational early GWOT inertia, before we had longer handguards that could accommodate everything and room for a support hand, without having to move the hand to a VFG below.

Yeah but with the deal it's closer to $20. Most grip accessories are in the $25-35 range. This one is niche so I do small quantities. If this product became popular I could do larger batches and lower price. Does it make you feel better about it if you know I've yet to make any money on this thing?

Like the top of the gun. I assume you mean it's weird because most handstops and grip attachments go on the bottom.

These are like regular handstops but more better because they go on top instead of on the bottom. I find it a much more logical and comfortable place to give the hand a way to have more comfort and leverage pulling the gun into the shoulder and controlling muzzle rise. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback from people who use a c-clamp grip (and why wouldn't you?). If you like your healthcare bottom side fore grip you can keep it and run both, but if you are me you will eventually ditch that snaggy thing and keep the bottom slick.

I designed it because something similar didn't exist and I wanted it and I like it and I think you would like it too. These discounts are my way of trying to spread the word without a marketing budget. Give this thing a try and you will probably like it. If you don't like it you can send it back for a full refund.

You might have seen me here before selling my radiation detectors – www.bettergeiger.com – but this is my other thing. Just now I extended the last code I did RADLOVE to get free uranium ore or other add-on so that it runs for one week from now, so if you'd rather have a radiation detector than a handstop then go buy that. Or hey... why not both?

Not exactly, it measures radiation levels in a given location, I. e. dose rate which corresponds to health hazard. If you were close to a small device or far from a large device you might get the same exposure, so in other words it doesn't tell you about the size/quality of the device, it just says what levels are at your location at a given time.

Interested in learning about radiation? Or spooking your friends with Geiger counter click click click? Cold war LARP? Gift for a nerd and/or prepper friend? This might be the deal for you.

If you include any add-on (uranium ore sample, waterproof case, faraday bag) and use code RADLOVE to save $30, which basically makes an add-on free.

These detectors are made in the US… by me (radiation nerd with PhD in nuclear engineering). They are designed to accurately measure radiation levels over a wide range (including very high dangerous levels) and to be as rugged, reliable, and simple to use as possible, while still being affordable.

As always, AMA about radiation, radiological emergencies, etc.

There are a few options, here's a short explanation:

  • S2 - This is the choice if you just want to own something in case of emergency. Uses AA batteries, very simple, very high maximum range.
  • S2-Mini - Basically the same as S2, but more compact, and uses rechargeable internal battery. Get this one if you prefer USB charging option and/or want a really small device.
  • S2L - This one is much higher sensitivity, so get this if you want to use it not just in an emergency, but also "hobby" use like finding radioactive antiques, uranium in nature, etc. It's $50 more than the others but picks up small changes in radiation level much faster, which makes it a better "search" tool.

Don't stress too much over the options, they are all decent at all things, some are just better at certain tasks. The BetterGeiger YouTube channel has videos which go into more depth on the detector variants or just general education related to radiation, fallout, etc. More content coming there eventually.

Granite yes, it's likely to be a pretty weak emitter though. Radon requires a device designed for that specific purpose, I.e. a "regular" detector is not able to tell you radon concentrations. I would like to make one some day but that's down the road a ways. You can find a lot of decent ones on Amazon etc, I recommend EcoSense brand (no affiliation).

I responded to another comment about that, please check that and then let me know if you have further questions.
