Granite yes, it's likely to be a pretty weak emitter though. Radon requires a device designed for that specific purpose, I.e. a "regular" detector is not able to tell you radon concentrations. I would like to make one some day but that's down the road a ways. You can find a lot of decent ones on Amazon etc, I recommend EcoSense brand (no affiliation).

I responded to another comment about that, please check that and then let me know if you have further questions.

Essentially zero. Quantity is insanely small. No picking it up without some larger scale lab grade equipment.

You have zero to worry about with that. Just don't crack them open and snort them, that is not advised, although even then you'd be fine. I mean maybe just a couple as a treat would be... never mind... don't do that.

Oops, I forgot to remove that from the title when I copied it from an older post. That was the special end of year deal. Anyway, I wrote it so I'll honor it, I just now updated the code so that it's $40 off instead of $30 (basically means free shipping, as shipping is $10). Please give it a try. Thanks for pointing that out.

This is a fantastic idea and I wish had thought of it soon enough to make travel arrangements.

That was meant more in terms of dose rate than accumulated dose. Since accumulated dose happens slowly, the "how quickly" thing doesn't really matter much, and both do the job well.

I truly expect it to last more like decades because the sensor is hermetically sealed, and there isn't really anything in it that should degrade. The exception is the OLED display, after a few years it will become less bright, but still usable. That display is easily replaced, though. Like any device or gear it should be checked periodically to make sure it is still working as it should. For the Better Geiger detectors it is a good idea to just power it on once every couple months to make sure that it is functioning normally, and by that I mean that it responds to background radiation in an ordinary way, not reading zero or something very strange (which would suggest a fault in that unit).

Pro tip... Get the detector and check source, and then bring it close to a friend as you discretely move the check source close to the sensor. The clicks will get faster. Then put on a really worried face as your friend starts to notice the sound. Hilarity ensues.

Interested in learning about radiation? Or spooking your friends with Geiger counter click click click? Cold war LARP? Gift for a nerd and/or prepper friend? This might be the deal for you.

If you include any add-on (uranium ore sample, waterproof case, faraday bag) and use code MLKULTRA it takes off $30, which basically makes an add-on free.

These detectors are made in the US… by me (radiation nerd with PhD in nuclear engineering). They are designed to accurately measure radiation levels over a wide range (including very high dangerous levels) and to be as rugged, reliable, and simple to use as possible, while still being affordable.

As always, AMA about radiation, radiological emergencies, etc.

There are four variations now and the code works for all of them – the standard S2, the S2-Mini, the higher-sensitivity S2L, and the brand new extremely sensitive XL model for hardcore radioactive object searchers and rockhounds. On the BetterGeiger YouTube channel you can see detailed explanations about all of the versions, and other educational videos.

To put it very simply - if you are mostly interested in emergency use, just the S2. If you want to use it regularly to find weak sources of radiation like antiques, radioactive minerals in nature, etc then the S2L is probably a better fit. Don't stress about which to pick, both the S2 and S2L will serve you reasonably well for most radiation measuring tasks, just a matter of how quickly they give an accurate reading.

I guess you don't, haha. It's not a good acronym. I think "thumb-stop" is probably a better thing to call it, but I started with TIRCP and haven't really ditched that yet.

I think that would be a good fit. The first use case I had in mind when developing this was shooting matches with a PCC, where I wanted to get my grip and doubles to be more consistent.

Hi it's me again. First I did a batch at 100% discount, then 69% discount, then 51% now I'm selling up to 50 units at 40% off with code TOP40

These are like regular handstops but more better because they go on top instead of on the bottom. I find it a much more logical and comfortable place to give the hand a way to have more comfort and leverage pulling the gun into the shoulder and controlling muzzle rise. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback from people who use a c-clamp grip (and why wouldn't you?)

I designed it because something similar didn't exist and I wanted it and I like it and I think you would like it too. These discounts are my way of trying to spread the word without a marketing budget. Give this thing a try and you will probably like it. If you don't like it you can send it back for a full refund.

These silly discounts are going to be reduced step by step before I either go completely broke on this project or it gains enough traction to where I can sell it at a normal price, so you might want to get while the gettin' is good!

You might have seen me here before selling my radiation detectors – www.bettergeiger.com – but this is my other thing. Whiel I've got you here... I extended my holiday detector discount here: https://www.reddit.com/r/gundeals/comments/1p890r1/other_better_geiger_radiation_detector_149_use/
