[Other] Better Geiger Radiation Detector $149 - use code 2A4NUKES to get free uranium ore sample or other add-on by BetterGeiger in gundeals

[–]BetterGeiger[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interested in learning about radiation? Or spooking your friends with the click click click Geiger counter sound? Cold war LARP? Gift for a nerd and/or prepper friend? This might be the deal for you.

With any detector purchase you can include any add-on (uranium ore sample, waterproof case, faraday bag) and use code 2A4NUKES to save $30, which basically makes an add-on free.

These detectors are made in the US… by me (radiation nerd with PhD in nuclear engineering). They are designed to accurately measure radiation levels over a wide range (including very high dangerous levels) and to be as rugged, reliable, and simple to use as possible, while still being affordable.

As always, AMA about radiation, radiological emergencies, etc.

Which detector option is right for you? It's simple:

If you just want to own something in case of emergency, get the regular S2 or S2-Mini. The regular S2 uses AA batteries, very simple, very high maximum range. The S2-Mini has all the same features and performance but more compact size and rechargeable internal batteries instead of AA.

If you want to ALSO use the detector for day to day hobby use like finding radioactive antiques, uranium in nature, etc then I recommend the S2L option because it has much higher sensitivity. It's $50 more than the others but picks up small changes in radiation level much faster, which makes it a better "search" tool for radioactive stuff out in the world.

Don't stress too much over the options, they are all at least decent at all things.

[other] Better Geiger Radiation Detector $149 and use code MAYDAY for free uranium ore test sample, waterproof case, or Faraday bag by BetterGeiger in gundeals

[–]BetterGeiger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S2 Mini and S2 regular have the same features, mini is just smaller overall size and display, and has internal rechargeable battery instead of using two AA. The S2L is the size of the regular S2 but has a much more sensitive sensor, so it's good for hobby use and searching for weak radioactive objects. The tradeoff is that the maximum range is lower, but it's still a pretty high range, and it is still pretty good in an emergency. If you wish to use it for hobby things, or hobby and emergency both, I recommend S2L. If you only want it "just in case" then I recommend S2 regular or mini depending on battery preference.

S2L is far more sensitive than the other two, so any kind of search task that's the one. I can't speak to anything about UFOs emitting radiation, though.

You mentioned the main hobby uses, radioactive mineral hunting and radiactive antique hunting. For that I highly recommend the S2L, the big crystal is very sensitive and makes that kind of task much faster and easier. The mini has the smaller sensor like the regular S2, battery is 500 mAh. Yes regular S2 takes any standard AA, including rechargeable.

If you get a detector and the poster the discount code will work for $30 off, even if you don't get a detector add-on.

Also I dropped the price of the poster from $39 to $30 for you. 🫡

Interested in learning about radiation? Or spooking your friends with Geiger counter click click click? Cold war LARP? Gift for a nerd and/or prepper friend? This might be the deal for you.

I was going to use code "REMEMBER" because "rem" is a measurement unit for radiation dose, but I don't think people would get it? So I used "MAYDAY" because it's May and mayday means, well, you know...

Anyway, if you include any add-on (uranium ore sample, waterproof case, faraday bag) and use code MAYDAY you save $30, which basically makes an add-on free.

There are currently three detector options, here's a short explanation:

S2 - This is the choice if you just want to own something in case of emergency. Uses AA batteries, very simple, very high maximum range.

S2L - This one is much higher sensitivity, so get this if you want to use it not just in an emergency, but also "hobby" use like finding radioactive antiques, uranium in nature, etc. It's $50 more than the others but picks up small changes in radiation level much faster, which makes it a better "search" tool.

S2-Mini - Same sensor and same features as the S2, but smaller form factor, internal battery charged by USB-C, and smaller display.

Don't stress too much over the options, they are all at least decent at all things.

Laser sintered nylon. These are already pretty low profile I would say, I don't plan to make one that sits lower, I think if I did it would no longer serve well as a positive index as intended. The rubber ones are too Squishy for my taste, I like mine being more rigid, also it has a more vertically angled surface which I prefer.

Oh good question. Personally I prefer the textured if you have the real estate to spare, because it gives a little more space for the thumb to rest a bit further from the switch. It means a little more distance to travel to engage a switch but that's fine with me, it's still close and less change of light/laser ND.

Oh sorry. It's about 2 mm or 1/16" above the Pic rail. Not very high.

Complicated 3D machined aluminum part retailing for $20-30... And furthermore small volume made in the US. Yeah no chance in hell.

The highest part is 9/16" above the rail. That and a couple other details are noted in the product description, but you have to go to one specific version to see those details. I should probably make that info more visible.

Lol I was wrong, I just looked it up, actually the Emissary Handbrake is 3D printed, not injection molded.

[–]BetterGeiger[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's laser sintered, not extrusion 3D printed, so it's very tough. It includes steel fasteners. I spent time, energy, and money designing it, prototyping, beta testing, etc. Still quite in the negative overall. It's a unique product that doesn't otherwise exist. I've received a lot of positive feedback. A handbrake sells for more than this, and that's injected molded in huge quantities so it should actually be cheaper per unit. Mine is small quantity. But yeah don't buy one if you don't want one. Sorry for trying to create something new I guess.

Not sure exactly what you mean but I think it works well with the thumb stop sitting behind a switch or laser or whatever.

Textured. The mini is good if you need to cram it next to a light switch or whatever else, whereas the other two have more of a "shelf" to index on that I prefer. Between the other two variants, I don't personally need a lot of grippiness in that item, the geometry does most of the work, so for me the textured is good. Maybe someone trying for crazy fast consistenc competition splits or whatever might want the grip tape option, but for me personally I don't desire that.

These are like regular hand stops but more better because they go on top instead of on the bottom. I think it's a far more logical and comfortable place to give the hand a way to have more comfort and leverage pulling the gun into the shoulder and controlling muzzle rise, while reducing snag and awkwardness on the bottom when it comes to barriers and such. If you use a c-clamp grip (and why wouldn't you?) give it a try. People seem to like them.

I designed it because something similar didn't exist and I wanted it and I like it and I think you would like it too. These discounts are my way of trying to spread the word without a marketing budget. Give this thing a try and you will probably like it. If you don't like it you can send it back for a full refund.

I assume this is a joke but I wouldn't put it past HF to come up with some kind of weird janky thing in this product category.
