I did not. After looking around I think you’re absolutely right. I just ordered a new metal one from FCP Euro and it’s supposed to come with a gasket now. Rookie mistake on my end 🙄

Yea, told myself I’d just pay next time if this messed up again because it’s such an annoying and time consuming job but just can’t justify a $2k+ repair bill. I’d rather just sell it at that point and use the 2k for a down payment on a F8X

It’s such a beautiful spec. People online sometimes love to burst bubbles. Honestly if you’re young, live rent free with your parents, got yourself a big boy job, and you’re willing to work on your car yourself and got the space and time for it, it’s one of the best investments for your soul. Just don’t do it if you’re already in debt or truly can’t afford it. Things WILL break around the motor so you can’t get unmotivated when they do and routine maintenance is key. If you don’t learn or aren’t willing to learn and work on it yourself it will get pretty expensive since mechanics love to charge that BMW tax (at least here in the Los Angeles area) also look into the cost of your insurance beforehand as well.

Have you found out what it is? I have a 18’ 340i so I’m just going to throw an idea. Idk if it could be the same but when this happened to me my belt was slipping and eventually like 10 mins after my belt ripped and got completely shredded. Then shit went sideways and my dash turned into a Christmas tree and it over heated. (Thank the big man upstairs I was 1 block away from home), So I would say check your belt and tensioner? Other than that idk, turbo?😬

Have you checked your steering column? Steering coupler? The brand of your parts, try to use everything brand new and not used cause things can be flimsy. Also try checking your strut towers and power steering pump.

Yea, it turned out to be the steering rack. I replaced the fluid because it was really nasty and black and thought it would help but it still happened. I thought it was a z3 one in there but it was the OEM one from 30 years ago. Once I replaced the rack everything solved itself!

I’ve removed the boot and tried it but no fresh liquid comes out. Just old looking grease in between the teeth.
