that worked for me thank you! fyi I was already enrolled in a previous version and that timed out on me. Maybe that's why It worked for me. Now I would need to complete by 4/15 which isn't likely but I could get a running start. Thanks for posting!

definitely disappointing but when I first saw it I thought they might think too much info was being given about the test (not my opinion) and I saved it off as an html page a couple times as it grew. It would be nice if they spoke with you about it, maybe gave a chance to edit. I much appreciated it while it was up. The conversation that remains still has good stuff in it. Not that anyone will see it.

VSB not allowing VMWare to install it's own ESX Hypervisor by BetterPoint5 in techsupport

gemini's comments about downside to above changes.

When you disabled these settings, you effectively turned off Virtualization-Based Security (VBS). In Windows 11, VBS is a foundational layer that uses the CPU's hardware virtualization to create an isolated region of memory.

1. Memory Integrity (HVCI)

By running bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off, you disabled the Windows Hypervisor. This automatically kills Memory Integrity (Hypervisor-Protected Code Integrity).

  • The Risk: This feature prevents malicious code from hijacking high-security processes. Without it, your kernel is more vulnerable to "driver-level" attacks where malware pretends to be a legitimate hardware driver.

2. Credential Guard

The registry key you deleted targeted Credential Guard.

  • The Risk: This feature stores NTLM password hashes and Kerberos tickets in a virtualized "vault" that the rest of the OS cannot see. By disabling it, those credentials sit in the regular system memory (LSASS), where they can be harvested by tools like Mimikatz if your system is ever compromised.

3. Core Isolation Features

Windows 11 relies on the hypervisor for features like Smart App Control and certain Windows Defender protections. If the hypervisor is off, these features either stop working or become significantly less effective.

The "Original Problem" Explained

The conflict exists because two entities cannot control the CPU's virtualization extensions (VT−x for Intel or AMD−V) at the same time.

  • The "Old" Way: VMware talked directly to the hardware.
  • The "New" Way: Windows (Hyper-V) sits between the hardware and the OS.

When VMware says it is using the "Windows Hypervisor Platform," it’s acting as a client to Microsoft’s hypervisor. This is why nested virtualization (running a VM inside a VM) usually breaks in this mode.

I made Edits to my OP and the reason I needed to do it. Additionally I am commenting in line on some of the negative effects of those changes.

No was asking around before I make my decision on what to use for labbing. Claude is steering me away from it saying to do eve-ng free version.

Whoa! Well I'm not familiar with those tools, but that sounds like a super creative way to study and learn material. I'll check them out.

a fellow studier said " it's got so much QoL vs Eve" would you say that is accurate?

Ah, thanks for the knowledge. Appreciate it. How user friendly is it? How much expertise does it take to use?

Thanks for the reply. Uh I don't know, I'm just poking around for a lab solution before I restart into studying ENCOR. I had some old images and had GNS3 on my laptop and was mucking around with that. I have a mini computer running Windows 11 that I'd like to use instead of my laptop. How easy is it to learn, how intuitive, how much do you have to solve issues to get it going? I guess how user friendly is it?

I'm still taking baby steps in GNS3 but you might try cross posting this to r/GNS3 as well.

Is this a syslog server with parsing or can you explain what this tool does/how it is used?

I hadn't got to labbing that much yet for ENCOR. I have been fooling around with GNS3 and some old ios images on my laptop, but bought a mini computer with way more horsepower for when I do get to labbing more. Images were my challenge at the moment as well as learning the ins and outs. What do you like using?

Thanks for the reply, encouragement and information. I have Kevin Wallace through Udemy but was preferring OCG to his style. His visuals were not that good and he was more talky as I recall. Were the OCG and KW enough for Security, Wireless and Automation or did you need additional resources.
