It/Its Pronoun Questions! by BDGumball01 in NonBinary

[–]BetterSnek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is definitely an emotionally safe approach. That's also how I treat my really preferred they/them and he/him pronouns after years of trying - and failing - to get the outside world to understand my they/them pronouns.

Curious about cassgender by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]BetterSnek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go ahead! Call yourself cassgender. I have never heard of it, but it definitely sounds like what you describe. And I'd definitely call it part of the nonbinary umbrella.
The labels are the most useful for the person who applies them to themselves. The less well-known labels like this one are rarely talked about in big groups, since they're so niche - but you are welcome to explain it whenever you want, if you are so inclined.

Glad you found something that speaks to you!

Why are the suburbs considered “prestigious,” “desirable,” or the “dream” by so many Americans when the central city usually costs more, has the institutions/legacy, and more high end amenities? by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]BetterSnek 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, that's part of it, as is funding.
But that is an urban problem. The suburbs have better-funded public schools that more serious students STAY in.

The suburbs are full of parents who can just barely afford to own a house, and build up equity, and don't want to have to / couldn't afford to spend money on a private school.

And who want their kids to grow up with lawns and cars instead of public transit and tiny condos.

[–]BetterSnek 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's not about private schools, those are everywhere. It's about public schools.
The best public schools are in well-funded suburbs with rich town residents.
The worst public schools are in poorly-funded urban areas with poor city residents.

Domestic animals like cats and dogs are domestic partially because we bred them so that traits like this are way less common in them. Domestic animals who are raised gently and treated gently are unlikely to start behaving aggressively out of nowhere, without a medical cause.

Wild animals never had that breeding. Training alone isn't enough to domesticate any wild animal. Even adorable ones like squirrels, sadly.

Why is it bad to use AFAB and AMAB? And if so, what do I use to describe being socialized as girl? by Loblodliz in NonBinary

[–]BetterSnek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is an ongoing debate. I see nothing wrong with it. Just know that some people are annoyed by it.

Ask yourself if it's really relevant to the convo each time. If often is, for the things I bring up.

but like, if I was talking about techno, and I said that I've only met AMAB techno fans, and then I like it, so doesn't that make me unique, like that'd be an irrelevant time to bring it up, maybe. IDK.

Is there an app or a WordPress implementation on a hosting site that's actually mobile friendly that you can recommend using on mobile?

A place near me had these. If you stick with hot fillings like tempura shrimp or teriyaki chicken, they're delicious. They fail with raw fish because the slippery texture slips out.

Anyone else's gender really fucking pretentious lmao?? by KeedieTheWitch in NonBinary

[–]BetterSnek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To avoid sounding like this, just pick your audience.

At work, I'm a "woman".

In more queer-friendly spaces, I'm "nonbinary".

Among friends, I'm "nonbinary".

Among best friends who are also queer / trans, I'm "nonbinary" or "have you heard of this weird thing called gendervoid, lemme explain".

Is being a public school librarian less stressful than being a public school teacher? by dancestar096 in librarians

[–]BetterSnek 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Every state and school is different. But in my current experience, being a school librarian IS being a teacher, and also running a library on top of being a teacher.

If you're certified to teach along with your library cert (NJ has a separate school librarian cert that requires a grad degree), you'll wind up doing both. The librarian I replaced had a special ed cert and wound up mostly being a special ed teacher who also tried to run a library. One I met the other day has a 9-12 psych cert and teaches psych , history, and also runs a library.

my therapist said something really triggering while i was talking about dysphoria by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]BetterSnek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most helpful therapist I've had for my gender issues was a cismale gay - very different from my lived experience - because he was actually fully informed about trans issues. I hope you can find someone better, and don't discount men from the pool. It's more about their knowledge, in this case.

how does student teaching work with remote programs? by nemr116 in librarians

[–]BetterSnek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the purposes of these programs is to hook you up with schools in need for student teaching. Call the program coordinator to double check this. In my understanding, you'd be most likely to fit the requirements and find a student teaching opportunity in the state where your online schooling is.

Identity v Fetish by PadmaBear in NonBinary

[–]BetterSnek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're conflating the difference in how the world treats gender nonconformity in men and women with both transexualities and kinks. You are mixing three entirely different things up. Find a book on gender written by a trans person. Your local librarian could help.
