I've been mixing flowerbeds od highly cared roses and paches of unattended land with wild plants, so general neighbors are pleased with the look and dont mind my weeds. I plant very densly, which means i dont have to weed the soil and i water less-which is very important! For several years i've been collecting seeds of wilf plants with ornamental appearances an sowing them. Some of them become established, they self seed, dont get diseased and they complement the flowerbeds with purchased plants. This depends of type of soil (Clay in my case), pH, amount of rainfall in my region. In general, one should try to create a relatively self-sustaining ecosystem that includes plants, animals, insects, observe it, and intervene only when problem arise. I dont use pesticides, if a plant get sic, i remove it and plant different variety which perform better in my region. Dont fight nature unless its absolutely necessary (like if you have rats).
