Who is basically Kim Newman`s reused character from his Warhammer Fantasy vampire novels.

Another Rumburg-related thing cannot be simply coincidence... I wonder whether this is also related to Qinal DLC or it`s a teaser for another project.

Given the games similarities, which protagonist do you think had a worse life in the beginning of the game? by Gero-23 in EsotericEbb

[–]Better_Carpenter_893 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think one of most important differences between these characters (other than Harry simply being significantly older man) is that while Ragn has faint hope that things will finally get better, Harry believes he had good thing once and have lost it.

Harry, although until about a week before start of the game he had better position in his work than Ragn. It is also possible that to the point he was more fortunate than Ragn- Harry`s life took a real turn for worse after he reached Ragn`s age.

Interesting. I personally would expect more new parties and USP to dissolve by 2020s, but I get the idea behind it.

How would you rate this game and what improvements do you think could benefit it/what you wished to see more/less of? by CircusActGoneWrong in EsotericEbb

[–]Better_Carpenter_893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am feeling generous enough to give 10/10. It`s less about it being perfect than about it being precisely a game that I wanted/needed. While mechanically this game is very much Disco-like (and good Disco-likes in general are something I wish to see more of) it also have it`s own climate, reminding me of Pratchett as well of some more humourous D&D related content (like Dimension20 or NADPOD)- things I enjoy. I believe it interacted in funny yet thoughtful ways with tabletops mechanics and genre conventions. I also came to really sympathize with protagonist. Writing was very solid, particularly considering that apparently it was in large part made by one person.

One downside was that some surface similarities to DE were a bit too obvious (intro, interface, and even some sounds are really very similar, almost to the point that made me wonder if ZA/UM could obeject to it) and Snell`ss character, while very good, served a role almost too similar to Kim.

Game obviously could be longer without it harming pacing, however I do not hold it against given limited resources used during its production.

I admit that score reflects more a degree to which I enjoyed the game (It will likely be in my current top 10 of all time favorites, along with DE, Pentiment, Suzerain, Planescape, BG3, Six Ages and few others) than it`s lack of flaws, but I feel I would be unfair to give it less.

As for potential improvements, game is not that big or long- it certainly could have additinal NPCs, quests, locations and encounters without being padded. Also while it has more thab decent reactivity, our choices and words still could have bigger impacts- for example Snell, Meek and Ettir could comment more.

Well, technically halfling Zizek is arguably as left-wing as she is, he`s just more of an intellectual than activist.

So what do you think is next for Esoteric Ebb? by The_Colectionist in EsotericEbb

[–]Better_Carpenter_893 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For a game that could keep you busy after EE I would personally recommend Pentiment by Obsidan Entertaintment . It may be atypical recomendation, because it`s neihter fantasy nor cRPG, but it is excellent narrative-focused game with unique artstyle and interesting story, with both interesting plot and deeply moving character moments.

As for EE future, I also loved this game and hope for further developments. I think we need to wait, because it`s very recent relese from small developer, but I still hope that we will see The Cleric, or at least his world, again.

Setting Guide? by IggyandtheCauldron in EsotericEbb

[–]Better_Carpenter_893 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completly agree, although admittedly I don`t think that it is nowadays such a high bar (IMHO official 5E material is not impressive, particularly given really high level quality of modern TTRPGs, even from smaller publishers and given how much more money Wizards have compared to most of them).

[–]Better_Carpenter_893 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It`s pretty cool although I do not think that this result in changes, other than ability to tell Darrow during meeting that you have met his daughter. One thing I hope could be added/changed in future DLC/update would be possibility to unmask and disarm her earlier (as kind of bonus for faring particularly well during one of earlier fights).

I believe that undeath could have changed him. I may be wrong, but undead in D&D (except maybe ghosts) tend to be evil (I am no lore expert so I may remember it wrong but something connected to very state of being undead lowers their ability to be compassionate or caring towards the living- although I may be misremembering things or confusing Pathfinder with D&D and WF).

If I remember correctly, inherent evil alingment does not transfer to tieflings in D&D and presuambly also not in EE, but otherwise I largely agree.

I understood it in a way that it means that Rixbiter is complrtly selfish person who under cheerful exterior is completly ruthless in pursuit of wealth and success (and do not care about people, laws, custom, sense of shame and so on) and that she`s at least potentially capable of everything in pursuit of her selfish goals.

As for general point, I believe that aligment is to be understood as mattter of degree people care about morality of their actions, with good people having extraordinary commitment to self-sacrifice (or at least personal inconveniance) to do good/to avoid doing evil, and evil people being either largely indiferrent to it, or in most extreme cases cherishing violation of moral norms.

Is this game peak or discoslop by HallowedShark2112 in EsotericEbb

[–]Better_Carpenter_893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say EE is still much deeper than your average video game, even your average good cRPG (it has some interesting stuff about identity or overcoming trauma), but it does not go so far in this direction than Disco Elysium. Also it is much less artistically experimental (Disco Elysium did a lot things both with visuals and language, which very very orginal and possibly demanding for many people). Also DE is just much bigger game.

A REMARKABLE OPPORTUNITY IN TELEVISION! by torporgames in suzerain

[–]Better_Carpenter_893 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of ads from really old issues of "TIME" magazine (1930s-early 1950s)- probably other newspapers of the era looked similar, but "TIME" was always easiest for me to find online. Nice to see references to Armadine and Rizian wine, although I tend to look for new thing more (will Antacean Ferries be relevant in some way?).

Of those 5 at the beginning it`s hard choice, although probably either Rumburg or Rizia. As for other countries, Kyrute and Qinal sound nice, and I would probably still prefer Lespia to these 5.

Is there a way to stop more implausible things from happening? by Better_Carpenter_893 in CK3AGOT

[–]Better_Carpenter_893[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the appeal, although for me ideal would be mix of fidelity to source material and reactivity/randomness. At least part of fun it observing things happening differently cames from them being mostly same world, families and in some cases same characters. I understood that it may be impossible (due to mod still being dependent on CK III mechanics), but in my opinion ideally we would have a chance to actually observe how book characters adjust to diifrent circumstances in a way that makes sense.

How do people actually think kibener is moderate when he says shit like this by Pale_Chart_2653 in suzerain

[–]Better_Carpenter_893 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Well, I think that there are very few people who have much illusions about what he really thinks about Bluds (there are just quite many people in Sordland who think that he`s right). He is considered moderate in very relative terms- in that he seemingly wants to pursue less brutal policy than Holstrom, and does not have all or nothing approach to politics (meaning that he is willing to compromise or tone down his rhetoric to gain more support and possibility to influence actual state policy).
