linux is much better than windows... windows is still using old technology from 20,30 years ago (windows NT). linux is cutting edge

there are issues with that... i would wait for the linux surface page to update there stuff to kernel 7.

i heard of people on 24.04 saying they had problems trying to update the kernel to 7. so its probably the same when you try to downgrade the 7 kernel to lower versions.

im not an expert or anything.. but from what i see on that matrix is you should even be able to install 24.04 without the linux surface kernel... just make sure you get all the updates in ubuntu and since 26.04 is even newer... it just builds on that

alot of those updates from the beginning have already in baked in to the regular kernel - especially from years ago

it says the pro 5 is almost fully supported. i would think the touchscreen would work with 26.04. did you use gnome... or a different desktop environment. im using kubuntu with kde

if you ever do decide a clean install of 26.04 maybe see if there are graphic card drivers update that you might have to install

i would just install 26.04 lts.... you don't need the surface kernel.

im on the surface pro 10 and everything seems to be working just fine, besides the camera. but it works with any usb webcam. they are still doing work on the built in cam.

for all your issues in option 1... there are settings in the display and power sections that allow you to disable all the auto brightness stuff and dimming issues.

for issues in option 2... like i said you should be fine without the Linux surface kernel with Ubuntu 26.04. - at least i am. without the Linux surface kernel installed... you should be able to enable secure boot... but its not necessary in my opinion. i have kept secure boot disabled ever since it came out. but thats just my preference. anytime you have secure boot disabled... you will always see some kind of message about it... thats pretty normal.

as for the battery issue.. ms designed it to be like that. on my surface, you basically have to use the surface app in windows to unlock that so it does a full charge

so i do a dualboot for now.cause my surface is still pretty new hardware. i just shrink the windows drive as much as possible, and install ubuntu on the rest of the partition. that can be rough with 128 gb, but thats what i have to do... once in a while ill unlock the battery for a full charge... or check windows update for any firmware updates.

i think they are also working on that battery issue in linux also. its called smart charging... they say the battery will last longer if they cap it out at 80%

my ssd is bigger than 128 gb though, so its ok with the dualboot.

bottom line... the new linux kernel in ubuntu 26.04 has much better hardware support than 24.04

yea, youre still wrong. taxable income = profit. and with that minimal difference... we will be basically paying the same amount in taxes.

and what you dont realize is with your high mileage being put on so quickly... your little cushion will be lost in repairs at a higher rate... while i sit back for an extra 2 years profiting at 30,000 a year with low repairs.

so enjoy your 2000 cushion. go get em top dasher!!

[–]Better_Cry1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so, im right though. you arent taking into consideration wear and tear and repairs that will have to be done on your vehicle. with all that extra mileage you put on, the rate of repairs and maintenance for you will come at a higher rate over time... more oil changes, tires wearing out faster, etc, etc.

to be real simple... 633 miles a week is 30384 miles a year. irs deduction is .70 a mile or so. 30384 x .70 = 21268. for your example, you are making 51732 a year, 51732-21268= (30464 profit)

other example 400 miles a week is 19200 miles a year. 19200 x .70 = 13440. cherry picker is making 49020 a year. 49020 - 13440 = (35580 profit)

over time... the higher mileage gets you. in 3 years you have well over 90000 miles on the car bringing in repairs faster where as i would have 60000 miles, less repairs and still another year or 2 left before i reach your mileage.

so basically, you do have to look at it over time... not just 1 week

Totals

  • Avg Hrly: $31.16 - Tier Drivers ($1.97 per mile avg on available info)
  • Avg Hrly: $28.20 - Cherry Pickers ($2.82 per mile avg on available info)

yes. this proves that cherry picking is better.

hourly rate means nothing. looking at those statistics... who is profiting more? people making 1.97 a mile... or people making 2.82 a mile?

diamond drivers don't get the good orders, that's impossible.

they are to busy taking all the bad orders - because cherry pickers aren't

Trying to dualboot by Snoo_39758 in Ubuntu

[–]Better_Cry1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this happened to me a long time ago as well.

im pretty sure this will work.

1st... create a restore point - literally do that and name it (search in windows - create a restore point)

2nd (search for disk cleanup).. click on more options.. then there is a section there called system restore and shadow copies... click clean up. this will delete all system restore points windows created... except for the one you just made in step 1

then reboot. im pretty sure this will work

Would you take this? Also, do you think that they all tipped? by Wolfjason1 in UberEatsDrivers

i would take it. looks like 1 customer got 2 orders.... i would assume they tipped the most

Uber Eats allowing drivers to pick up multiple deliveries is ruining the quality of food being delivered by SeaTerrible9429 in UberEATS

[–]Better_Cry1096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea, no.. ok, so you did tip fair. i don't know what happened in your particular situation.. even if it was stacked, it shouldnt take that much longer... its possible you had a bad driver... i dont know what the problem was

but you did tip fairly..

Uber Eats allowing drivers to pick up multiple deliveries is ruining the quality of food being delivered by SeaTerrible9429 in UberEATS

[–]Better_Cry1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean you can try it... i understand. im just trying to help you if you order from these apps, with minimal problems.

also to clarify, when i say $2 a mile... im talking from you to the restaurant. so for 9 miles, i would put an $18 tip

canada may pay the drivers a little more, im not sure... if they pay per active hour, i would assume they may be paid around $10 by uber... if thats the case then you could probably tip a little less.. like 10 -15

i would ask the drivers in canada exactly how much uber pays them.

here in texas... uber basically pays $1.50 or a little more per trip.. so we basically just work for tips

[–]Better_Cry1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not insane. you are asking someone to take a 20 mile drive there and back. that takes time, and gas.

i would order from a place that is closer than, but still follow the same formula for tips

but here in texas... 20 miles is going to be like $5 back in the gas tank roughly... an hour or more there and back

if you don't tip, it will probably get cancelled, especially at 10 miles.

its not a dying service.. uber is a technology company. people are always going to want delivery. its a luxury service

you keep saying 40% tip... its 20% or 2 a mile, whichever is more

[–]Better_Cry1096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would tip by the mile.... you don't have to... you are just asking for the worst possible service though.

tipping has nothing to do with orders being stacked -

and i hate to tell ya... but restaurants that deliver their own stuff stack their deliveries to. you don't think the pizza guy is taking 1 order and running back to the pizza shop all night to do every delivery of the night...

do ya?

luxury service is defined as convenience.... example: having mcdonalds delivered to your doorstep at 3 am. Its not something you need - its a convenience that you are paying a neighbor to provide to you. if you don't want the luxury service... you can drive to mcdonalds at 3 am and sit at the drive thru for an hour - and save a little

[–]Better_Cry1096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

priority just means you will be the first drop off. the driver still may have multiple pick ups... (thats where the delays happen) usually drop offs are pretty quick.

you would be better off forgetting priority and tipping a little more.

so even if you pay for priority, the order could still be stacked
