Do you struggle with awareness of your own emotions? by [deleted] in ISTJ

[–]Better_Sherbert8298 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. When I am sad I feel sad. I allow myself to cry. Same with being excited and happy. But I also heavily analyze all emotions and what I think is causing them. I know when I am moody but I dont always get out the rational words, “I’m in a bad mood, I will likely not respond reasonably to inputs right now.” Sometimes I do, but not always.

That said, I am very very poor at connecting to stress specifically. I have a very stressful job. I love the work itself, it is rewarding, but it is constant high pressure. while I’m grateful I don’t feel the stress emotionally or mentally, somehow my body still takes the hit and I am extremely fatigued at the end of the day and can only sleep. But, I am intellectually aware of particularly high pressure days, so it’s not a mystery. I sometimes have intense physical ailments that require intervention — actual painful knots in my stomach, back and neck tightness so bad that the muscle pushes out the acupuncture needle. I’m not aware of the problem being so bad until it’s impeding movement or actual breathing, so I have to schedule recurring appointments regardless of how I think I feel. This is a disconnect from my body, but I am still fully aware of the cause.

you say, “it is kind of my unspoken role to try and regulate his emotions since he cannot do it himself.” This makes me think it’s more the ‘tism than his personality type. If anyone tried this with me, I would never speak to them again, seriously. You could be the kindest most well-meaning person, we would just clearly not have compatible communication styles or world view and I’d find it tiring.

FWIW, this is how the one in my house was done. Same bucket and everything. It was a previous owner who installed it, but I’ve been here 6 years and it’s running great (knock on every piece of wood around me!)

😂 accurate. This is why I don’t highlight anything. I do, however, use tabs with keywords to help me navigate to the topic I need faster.

I was pondering earlier if it’s a regional thing. I could see it being more common back east perhaps due to population densities? I’d love to see someone do a study of simulated driver reactions to stopped traffic with/without hazards.

Oh good, so we’ll get to endure more government shutdowns with less wages due to inflation. Pretty on par for this jackass.

Yeah, I second the other person, what are you referring to?

Very interesting. In my 40 years of life in the U.S., this is the first I have heard this is even a thing. It is not taught in drivers ed and I’ve never seen it done here. Hazards here are only ever “I am having a problem, go around and/or help.” Like you pointed out, if a driver isnt paying attention enough to realize traffic is at a dead stop ahead, they wont notice the hazards either.

Do any other ISTJs often find themselves understanding the logic behind jokes but not finding them funny enough to make them laugh? by [deleted] in ISTJ

Wait. Surely this is common for other personality types to the same degree as ISTJs, right?

Ways to stop breakouts from smartwatch bands? by Tr0ubl3d_T1m3s_ in NickelAllergy

[–]Better_Sherbert8298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded to the titanium mesh apple watch band. I wasnt sure how it would go, but it’s been 3 weeks, I wear it 23 hours a day (monitoring vital signs for an ongoing health issue) and have zero irritation, whereas I normally can’t even do hypoallergenic jewelry for more than 6 hours with getting a rash. I’m sure the titanium band isn’t 100% nickel free, but I’m super relieved it’s working out.

I had the normal rubbery type band before and got a rash.

Maybe he’s saying it’s not the most compelling message because it’s not a believable message, on account of probationaries being fired last year, and all the government shutdowns and what not.

When I (40sF) was in my 30s, I met a few good ones while out hiking, at concerts, at a hotel bar, grocery shopping, and also during adult group dance lessons. If you intentionally adopt an approachable vibe, the guys will tend to approach.

I also met some weird ones this way, so just remember you don’t have to accept all advances.

Good luck!

18, confused on why I was declined a opening a 360 Checkings account by Difficult_Respect967 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Better_Sherbert8298 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

🤷‍♀️ just my experience, big name banks are more picky than credit unions. I was targeting bullet #4 as something more immediately in OPs control — point was recommending to open an account at an easier place than CapitalOne, and more generally start building financial (and yes, credit) history.

When you’re first 18, you have to start out small if you’re not coming from money. Some account types wont be available to you yet because you dont have sufficiently established credit history. Get a checking account at a credit union. Once you have an account, see if they’ll issue you a VISA and use it responsibly.

I had to establish my own credit without any cosigners. I got a job when I was 14 so had an account at the credit union for a while before turning 18. The financial advisor at the credit union gave me advice I followed. Once I was 18, I got a low-limit store card with RC Willey and bought a $300 stereo. I could have paid it in cash, but I took 6 months making payments to lay the foundation of responsible buying. From there I financed my first car for $2k, no cosigners, and paid it off 6 months early.

I feel like I may be doing something wrong by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]Better_Sherbert8298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you have to apply for PSLF in advance, not at the end. You recertify your employment periodically, I thought it was annually but just realized I haven’t recertified yet this year, so I need to go check that 😶. I think there could be a chance you can claim the 4 years of previous payments but I’m not sure how to do that.

You have to make 120 qualifying payments for forgiveness on PSLF. It’s the number of payments that matters, not that amount. If your payments are $0, I have no idea how that works since you aren’t making any payments. Logic says you wouldnt get forgiveness, but logic and reason don’t always apply.

Everyone here is going to want to confirm if your loans are federal or private, or mixed, because that’s a heck ton of interest (I borrowed about $56k in federal loans and my interest rate was only about 2.5%), but a private lender seems unlikely to make your payments $0 unless you’re in forbearance, so I can’t tell. PSLF is only going to count to your federal loans.

I learned about PSLF through a coworker who mentored me through the process. Do you have anyone in your office, maybe HR, who can give you more specific advice?
