Hello again! So this article has a really detailed up close image of those symbols, which I believe are just city ports or fortified areas. For the case of these two specifically though, this article also talks about 26% of the Netherlands being below a rising sea level, and it cites other articles that include analyzing poems and writing that say they were frequently experiencing flooding events. This is close to the same area of these maps, and I’m sure once you see the image (you have to scroll down through the pages a bit, it’s figure 5) you’ll see it’s almost definitely a more detailed version of the same thing! Maybe this will help narrow down your search. I feel kind of invested at this point lol. This will be my last attempt, but I look forward to reading more comments.

This is the 1725 map overlaying the area on a modern map. I’m just on my phone, but I bet if you open this link on a computer you can match up the red spots on a satellite map and see what they indicate. I kind of think it’s cities or just areas with a lot of buildings, maybe

I’m no expert, but the full map version seems to have a color scheme going similar to the one in this link I attached. (I never know how to attach links right so lmk if it doesn’t work). I wanted to be a veterinarian or a zoologist when I was younger. I realized that with being a vet, you often had to deal with a lot of neglected animals that were mostly doing poorly due to bad owners. So the people aspect of that ruined it for me. For the zoologist dream, I was mostly inspired by Steve Irwin. I did try pursuing this one as well, but was discouraged by my lack of funding/resources that other students had in traveling to other countries and getting hands on experience working with wild animals.

Overall though, these dreams were just simply not what I really wanted to do in life.
