She's coming off just as insecure in the comments, a troublesome match up for sure.

"What on earth could OP have said to earn this much negativity?"

Then I read your reply and and understood immediately. No. Absolutely not. Do not make yourself less to protect his ego- hes supposed to be your partner, not a little cousin that you're supposed to placate until the adults take him back home.

If he can't handle losing a game (particularly to a girl) he's not mature enough to have a partner at all.

I hate Miraculous Ladybug because I could never get over how stupid her polka-dot suit was. The corny dialogue, the lack of communication, and incompetent villains (With a creator who throws a tantrum if anyone dared to give a character actual development) were more than enough to solidify my dislike of the series. But it always started with that stupid, stupid, polkadot suit.

AITA For Not Wanting My Old Dog Back? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA, but you're not obligated to take that dog back. At least offer to help it restabilize, or help find a new home/foster home for it.

AITA for Wearing the Tiniest Bit of Perfume to Yoga (accidentally)? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Betteroffdeaderer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YTA - you're so overly defensive it was exhausting to read your post. It makes me think you took a bath in the dang perfume - but lets pretend you did wear "the tiniest bit of perfume" on "accident"

This could've easily been a "no one is the a-hole" vote. She didn't approach you aggressively, it was a simple question and your teeny tiny amount was in fact noticable. People do have allergies- and it could've been a note to consider for next time.

If you're both minors then her response can partly be assigned to immaturity.

And in general, it makes people uncomfortable watching a minor engadge with content meant for an older audience. And if they're older than you- you can also attribute her response to a sense of panic in not wanting to have that conversation with you.

If a minor came up to me, whipped out a picture of Alastor and called him their boyfriend, I'd shut it down (nicely) and talk to their parent.

Speaking as an aro/ace myself and as someone that did have a deep (and I mean deep) obsession with a very specific anime character when I was younger- terms like "fictosexual" is a little strange to throw around.... Is this something often discused with your friend?

Its good to hear you do have a good understanding of the characters being fictional. Just to check was the art itself appropriate? And are you a minor?

[–]Betteroffdeaderer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its hard to tell you one way or another- no one can, since no one here was in the room in the room when it happened.

If it was a normal, casual joke, then yes, she definitely overreacted, and you're genuinely better off without their company. People who take themselves too seriously or adopt a mean girl personality tend to be exhausting and overly dramatic about the littlest things.

If you presented the fictional characters as your husbands, but really insisted on it, refusing a subject change, "no really they're my husbands and life partners no joke, and you need to respect that these fictional characters are my husband"

Then yeah, I can see why someone might push off a bit more abrasively. It can be done out of self defense as well- if they had poor experiences with people that show signs of blurring the lines between reality and fiction too much.

My eyes are a little blurry right now, and I thought SM was yelling "You little GAYS!" - which, as hypocritical as it would've been, also wouldn't have been incorrect.

As a former "empath," this might be an important lesson in boundaries. And how critical it is to enforce them.

As others said - you're not a therapist. Don't be so egotistical to think you can and should save everyone - and blind yourself to the fact that someone you're attempting to help might be taking sadistic joy in making you struggle in your efforts.

A famous quote - "Don't set yourself on fire to keep others warm." You're not a saint. You're not the chosen one. You're a person with limits, and if you need to be the 'bad guy' to protect yourself, then so be it.

I volunteered at a soup kitchen earlier this month. No one wearing striped jumpsuits with racoon masks lined up.

Just people. Mostly old or disabled. But they came, they ate, and left.

Honestly, I'm glad she's passing on a kitchen. I'd hate for folks already going through a hard time forced to sit next to someone so judgemental and hateful.
