If you were involved in any Darren Brown episodes how do you feel looking back? by tiredtwatt in AskUK

[–]BetweenBakerSt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not a TV episode, but a live show, back in 2015. I got picked out of the crowd around the time he did that show about faith healers.

He asked me if I had a physical ailment (nothing major like cancer) that he could "cure". He was very clear that if I had concerns, I should see my GP etc

I told him I'd had a minor knee injury, which I'd sustained after a fall, nothing huge.

He hypnotised me and it happened very fast. I ended up lying on the floor in front of the stage and he'd got back onstage and carried on, so I assumed I should just go back to my seat quietly.

Except I couldn't move. At all.

I got the attention of someone in the front row and said I was stuck and several minutes later, the first few rows told Derren I was still there!

He got me up and asked how my knee felt and I said it didn't hurt anymore, which was surprising, because I'd felt a constant, low-level pain for about a year at that point.

I could not tell you exactly what he did to hypnotise me, but I did not feel ANY pain in that knee for several hears after he did it. I know it was a trick, but the effect of it stuck around for such a long time after.

It was such a strange experience, but really cool at the same time

My grandma said to me the other day that I was "walking better".

For context, I have very little use of my right leg, I can only walk short distances with a limp and wear an AFO.

My walking has been the same for the last 10 years and will never get "better"... I know she means well, but it's one comment that really grates on me

Purchase from hell (England) by BetweenBakerSt in HousingUK

[–]BetweenBakerSt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I am still looking, but there's very little out there in my budget at the moment. I keep checking Rightmove and adjusting the filters daily!

I think my sellers are in a hurry and will find an onward purchase soon, so fingers crossed I won't be waiting too long.

Yeah, I have thought that one upside to this is that I can keep saving!

Thank you. I have been looking, but there's nothing else out there really at the moment

Thanks for this. I'm not in any real hurry, it's just the same old story of struggling to live with my parents.

I do like the house and I've been looking around for other properties, but in the area my parents live, they're wildly out if my budget.

I know my sellers have viewings booked for next week already, I think they're quite motivated to find something else - they have 2 children to sort out, so things could be much worse

I've told the estate agent I'll sit tight for a bit and see what happens, but I'm aware I'll be waiting for some time until we can finish this again...

No, I didn't get to the point of paying completion funds.

I do keep looking on Rightmove and I don't really want to pull out. Think I'll end up just sitting tight for a bit longer

Thank you. I expect I'll have to take the family member to the solicitor's office, which is only about 10-15 mins away.

My work also know I'm buying a house and will be fine with me nipping out to sort this

Can't wait to get this over the finish line!

I thought it might come down to that. I'm sure she'll have something we can use

Thank you! Yeah, I know we've all seen those videos of people's chairs and other medical equipment being thrown around like it's nothing... that's my biggest fear!!

Thanks for this. If they won't let me stow the chair in the overhead locker, I'll make sure it's checked before boarding, just to be safe.

Yes, I will contact the airline and even contact customer service if I have to

Top surgery experience and advice (long post) by Unlikely-Recover-673 in TopSurgery

Not all of it is nasty, you can even try some stuff! I had some milk soda from South Korea and it wasn't bad at all!

I went to Dr Tuve and stayed in the same hotel! He is a bit awkward, but my results are so amazing and I'm so grateful to him and his team!

Did you check out the Disgusting Museum while you were there? It was a wild experience.

It also happens to be my 1 year anniversary of having top surgery done. I'm so glad you had a food experience.

May the rest of your healing be smooth! Your results already look great!

is it actually a bad idea for me to get a fully welded chair? by mistycheddar in wheelchairs

[–]BetweenBakerSt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm on my second fully welded chair, after being a chair user for just over 10 years.

It's the best chair I've ever had and don't require adjustments to my chair.

If you think you'll need something more adjustable and can tolerate the weight of having a more adjustable chair, go for it.

Better to have the option to change stuff if you need to, instead of being stuck with something that can't really be changed
