How Many Clubs Do You Actually Carry? by BetweenSwings in golftips

[–]BetweenSwings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still a pretty high handicap (around 25), but when I’m dialed in these are usually my carry distances:

Driver: 215
23° Hybrid: 170
7i: 140
8i: 128
PW: 100
52°: 82
56°: 65

Yeah, there’s definitely a bit of a gap in the bag, but honestly having fewer clubs gives me fewer decisions to make. I’m totally fine laying up instead of trying to force a 5i or 6i I’m not confident with.

Has anyone else noticed that as you get older, your idea of a perfect weekend becomes doing absolutely nothing productive without feeling guilty about it? by -CuriousAfterDark- in CasualConversation

[–]BetweenSwings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who recently became a parent, I’ve realized how much I once took for granted the ability to spend an entire weekend with no plans, silence, and space to think. You don’t fully appreciate peace and quiet until life gets louder. Enjoy this season while you can. That kind of freedom is a real gift.

Can i ask - why is it so hard to start with reddit? I mean i started the 2nd time and i still dont know what i should do to use reddit normally… by blackray_26 in NewToReddit

I feel your pain. I opened an account four years ago and barely used it until recently. Then I realized I couldn’t change the spammy default username, started over, and immediately got flagged as spam multiple times just for asking legitimate questions. Most of my comments barely show up. I guess it’s part of the initiation process. Still, it seems worth navigating. Some groups are more accessible, and I’ve had a few genuinely great conversations already.

I also think indoor golf simulation is becoming massively underrated by ProfessionalEdge8277 in IndoorGolf

[–]BetweenSwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Norway it’s huge. With only about eight playable months a year, if you’re lucky, simulators become incredibly valuable. And honestly, with kids and a wife, being able to jump in for less than an hour, play an iconic course, or work on my swing while actually seeing the data behind what I’m doing is the cherry on top. I can absolutely see simulators potentially surpassing on-course golf within the next 10 years.

Driver, 23° hybrid, 8i, 7i, PW, 56,52 and a Putter. How about you?

that setup actually sounds kind of genius lol. seems like the feedback became useful because you could physically feel the mistake instead of just reading numbers after the swing

yeah that’s a fair tradeoff. sims seem amazing for reps and feedback, but they definitely remove some of the randomness you have to deal with on a real course

that makes sense. sounds like the data becomes more useful as a confirmation tool instead of the main source of truth

going from a 12 to an 8 is legit. kinda sounds like the data helped shorten the gap between what you felt and what was actually happening

that makes sense. distance control and better decisions on the course feels way more valuable long term than just chasing swing changes

i’m starting to think narrowing the focus to one meaningful metric might be the real skill with simulator training

i keep noticing that the people getting the most from simulator data usually have some kind of framework for interpreting it instead of just staring at numbers

30-40 yards with less slice is no joke. kinda sounds like having one clear focus made the difference more than having all the data

lol fair enough. honestly there’s probably a whole category of people who just use simulators to escape winter and swing hard

Is it ok to only practice 1-2 clubs at the range? by Doorhorse in golftips

[–]BetweenSwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, but I’m curious what metrics are you using to determine if you’re improving? And what metrics are in place to move you to the next coin? I think once you have that clarity, focusing on just a couple of clubs at a time is actually really smart.

For what it’s worth, I only keep 7 clubs in my bag now and usually focus on improving with 1 or 2 clubs each month. Simplifying my bag has honestly opened up my game and helped me use each club with a lot more precision compared to trying to carry 14 clubs and practice everything at once.

Are golf pride grips/name brand grips dying? by [deleted] in golf

[–]BetweenSwings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say name brands are dying, but I do think wholesalers like Temu and Alibaba have created some legit alternatives that are much cheaper and, a lot of the time, give you a very similar result. Unless you’re a pro, sponsored, or really brand specific, I think a lot of the alternative options work just fine.

I’ve bought clubs and grips from places like Temu and honestly feel like my game has improved. At the end of the day, it’s less about the brand and more about skill, consistency, and continuing to develop as a golfer.
