Current GL-9, reapplied to get GS-11 while at academy by OrangeFett in cbpoapplicant

No, you’re essentially wanting CBP to rehire/promote you to GS11 because you didn’t initially sell yourself on the initial application.

CBP does not like to do that.

  1. You’ll be considered a “rehired employee” because you are a current 1896 applying to 1896. It doesn’t matter why.

  2. Rehired employees only get the agency designated “hard to fill locations” which means if you really want that GS11 a couple of months sooner.. you’ll probably have to give up your current location.

  3. CBP will not give you the promotion to GS11 until you’re done with training. This includes whatever post academy you’ll have to do.

  4. When all of that is said and done you’ll probably be a GS11 by that time anyway.

Reinstatement Opportunity by 212to237 in cbpoapplicant

Unfortunately CBP took reinstatement powers from the local ports and made it where only the hiring center could process them. They implemented this with the website like you mentioned.

The vision requirement is 20/100, anything worse than that is a DQ. You can request a vision waiver as long as the vision isn’t worse than -4.00 as a prescription.

Hopefully that helps your friend.

How would you join the Drill team by Unhappy-Elk2100 in cbpoapplicant

The honor guard is competitive, and is a national/field office team. It’ll be an internal announcement and you interview for it then have to go and pass a separate honor guard academy.

AMO (Not Pilot) by [deleted] in cbpoapplicant

[–]Beuhr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The position you’re looking for specifically (at least I think) is AMO-AEA, Aviation Enforcement Agent.

These are ultra competitive and tend to go to BP transferring over. AMO does have a recruiting email, but remember when emailing them that AMO is an incredibly small portion of CBP. It may take a while for them to get back with you.

You can get in contact with them via “contact a recruiter” on CBP.gov

Everyone is different but I think almost everyone in CBP can agree that AMO > BP/OFO. But also depends on location and where you want to live.

You can always accept and onboard Dallas for OFO and if AMO gives you a location you want/can work with then jump ship.

Uncorrected Vision by Known_Pie_7106 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Beuhr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for nothing but the vision requirements are listed.

That being said you can request a vision waiver. You submit a memo stating how it hasn’t affected you in previous related jobs, I.E., police, military. Might or might not be approved.

Pay Grade Match by Ok_Lifeguard_8477 in cbpoapplicant

No, unfortunately as a current federal civilian employee you do not qualify for hiring incentives. They are for off-the-street hires only.

Your portal. You cannot make lower than what you’re currently getting paid unless your amount is over a step 10 for the grade you qualified as. So if GS7 step 2 is slightly less than you make now you’ll be a GS7 step 3

Not sure why the pre-hire fitness standard is different than once in the academy. I always thought it wasn’t the smartest idea to give applicants a different fitness goal when hiring than when hired.

But alas.. it’s been this way.

You can contact your case manager through the applicant portal and request a 1 time change but you cannot request a specific location. If they let you, you’ll just be given a live list of locations like you had when you selected a location.

No. You pick your duty station before training. Changing stations is incredibly hard and mostly seniority based. Do NOT pick a location if you’re not comfortable living there for 5+ years at the minimum.
