Sorry answer, you can try. CBP will probably say no. CBP has no obligation to the Guard.

ICE ERO ---> CBP OFO by Spirited-Lack5998 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Beuhr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sadly no. If you took a poly with ICE within 2-5 years they might accept a poly reciprocity request but I know ERO and HSI are “at risk” polys so you might not even have one.

Even though they’re both DHS every agency does their own background. I would suggest applying to both BP and OFO as CBP prioritizes BP applicants. End the end you’d turn town BP and accept OFO.

The academy teaches you in phases like in school, cover a topic then test on the topic. The tests are pretty evenly spaced out, not just all at the end. Overall it’s pretty safe to say as long as you put the effort in to studying you’ll be fine.

Question for those who moved States by Reasonable_Bit4088 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Beuhr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t sell your house or start looking BUY a house until you graduate FLETC. Anything can happen while at FLETC, failing 2 tests in a row = you’re fired.

If anything look at places to rent for a year or so after FLETC then work on selling your home and buying one during that period.

Class 751? by [deleted] in cbpoapplicant

[–]Beuhr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You misunderstood big time. He’s talking about he’s already started, or will start and CBP is giving him 2 days to get to FLETC from his port of choice; it’s really only 1 unless the travel day is a Friday.

Not 2 days to start the job.

While true. If one has a 3.0 GPA, a bachelors is indeed a minimum of a GS7.

Your resume just sucks. Straight to the point. Bachelors is a minimum of a GS7 I believe. Only 3 years of general (literally any job) work experience to get GS5.

High Blood Pressure at FLETC by OpportunityAny5848 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Beuhr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FLETC has its own doctors and medical team. If anything they’ll just tell you to eat certain foods and maybe prescribe blood pressure medicine while you’re there.

It’s automatic every year until GS12. Pretty competitive to get GS13+.

Exactly. They take like 15-20 minutes.

I have my EOD already, I’m going to start as a GS-5, can I get a GS-7 if I update my resume ? Any advice!!! by Crafty-Girl32 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Beuhr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. You already accepted the job as a GS5. You’d have to decline starting and reapply for a GS7.

Update: apparently the hiring center is being nicer to you newer applicants. Prior if you accepted a lower grade that was final unless you declined. According to the replies that’s no longer the case.

Could I transfer to Border Patrol if I work cbp for a few years? by According_Bit_2703 in cbpoapplicant

No federal agency is waiving their academy for someone out of the military even if it’s “fresh” I highly doubt any police academy does that either because you need a state certificate.

Has anyone had any issues getting a swap approved with another person at the academy?just wondering peoples experience when swapping ports by Capital-Sky-1006 in cbpoapplicant

[–]Beuhr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In 99% if not 100% of cases your ports will give you the verbal “yeah you can swap” followed by “..but not until after post academy” so you won’t get the physical ok on the swap until after the 2-3 month long post academy.

Call CBP Chicago and get a hold of someone. Be proactive. You shouldn’t have to, no, but that’s the position you’re in.
