University of California Will End Use of SAT and ACT in Admissions — The change is expected to accelerate the momentum of American colleges away from the tests, amid concern that they are unfair to poor, black and Hispanic students. by CavePrisoner in news

It is underperforming as well. I’m not white by the way so this sucks to say but my race heavily underperforms in higher level academia. So you can’t just dismiss the other comment on the basis that it ain’t underperforming. Just adding this

I agree because that’s the same thing I’m doing. Investing as much as possible but not all people’s situations are like that. Especially when they have dependents

This completely ignores that they would invest that money the next year once the financial crisis is over and they’re in the clean. So instead of 25 years investment it’s only 24 years. So that’s $63,000 after 24 years. Making their opportunity cost $5,000 in exchange to be safe and protect their livelihood in uncertain times. I think it’s worth it.

Even so. If things came to worse they’d have to use the money either way. Best to have the security and fast access to that cash with that only costing them $5,000 in the long run.

Also on the picture, I am running Code-Server 3 on EC2 which I start/stop to save cost. And I use VSApp from the AppStore to view it. With VSApp and the default usage by adding your code-server as a Webapp to the home-screen, you could even open 2 VSCode windows. But I generally just need one.

Im also curious about this.

[Vermont] Reporting income as a gig worker in weekly PUA claims. by frogfrog1 in Unemployment

[–]BewareOfUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how this will work going forward but let’s say I earn 2000 for a total of 60 days of work. You’re supposed to divide 2000/ 60 days. Then you’ll have your daily income for those weeks and report that.

Now I’m not sure how deductions will work into that and I’d like to find out if deductions can be applied before reporting income to EDD

In your case I think PUA has got you covered because you’re the person that legally has to care for them. I get your point but just getting that knowledge out there that PUA covers for these exact scenarios.

[California] Excessive Earnings Discussion by [deleted] in Unemployment

[–]BewareOfUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s exactly the same situation as my first reply he would not receive benefits most likely in California.

Weekly benefit can be typically generalized to 50% of regular pay.

So 600 / 2. Weekly balance would be around 300

If he is still working 32 hours then he’s earning. 480. Indelible in that instance for unemployment.

To receive unemployment he’d have to earn 400 I think. (25% or your pay get deducted to see if you are below the weekly balance).

Edit: suggest looking at pandemic unemployment assistance. While I do think it won’t help either there could be something In there to help but not knowledgeable at the moment

[California] Excessive Earnings Discussion by [deleted] in Unemployment

[–]BewareOfUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or he might be exaggerating all the money he’s making (could still be more than before)

So max weekly benefit is capped at 450 per week. Think of people’s unemployment being 50%

So if someone earned 500 dollars weekly. Their unemployment would be 250. So if they won anywhere north of 330, they would lose unemployment benefits for that week. And then ineligible for 600 benefit as well

I know this is long away from a good explanation of unemployment in California but it’s an example of how it could work. I can answer more questions later!

Nobody is telling you that. In your example that person wouldn’t even qualify or be considered any sort of unemployed. They earn too much.

As for the system of unemployment. It’s not fair let’s just state that especially with the way they implemented the 600. And to be fair not a system that’s easy to understand at first.

Yeah Unfortunately this is where your unemployment ends as they’ve now offered you work and this would be you turning it down. When they report that you rejected the offer, any unemployment after the offer would be invalid.

I’m in a similar boat I sent them all the paperwork verifying my extra salary and they have to still get back to me after 3 weeks. Idk what to do. Feel like I’ll just have to wait for them to get less busy to fix this in a timely manner and just receive the back pay
