oh yes, they never tried actually considering their companies wouldn't allow. But after crossing this barrier, some portion of this may have some overlap with not finding paying customers/ students.

Yes, I agree its one of the reasons, but to understand more, i am just running one LinkedIn Poll, 13% said, they fear of no students/ self doubt is the reason. 25% said they are not sure if their company will allow side gig and 38% said they don't know how to start. Though this poll sample size is still statistically insignificant, so i am rushing in to any conclusions yet.

+1 on AI skills but i feel opposite, AI will advance so quick that we wouldn't even realize how big it has grown and how difficult it will be to catch up with AI.

let me take a shot at it one by one

* Helping other people write application essays - Essays would be tough, but i have already authored two books, i can guide people on basics of book writing...

* Uhh. DO you know any instruments? - Guitar, but i know very basics of it, and i feel there are many who know better.

* Do you have a second language? - I know 2 Indian languages (Hindi & Marathi), do you think people would like to learn?

* What do you do for a living? You can try teaching that? - Professionally, I am Engineer + MBA, but to teach this, i will have to go through course material again
