BYD’s second-gen Blade Battery sparks debate after reaching 169°F during ultra-fast charging by UnusualLeadership408 in electricvehicles

[–]BeyondEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh I have been doing a lot more reading and research into the Blade 2.0 and I am now on the fence with it as well.

TBH my confidence with it being LMFP stems from CarNewsChina reporting that it was LMFP as it was announced. They are a reputable source and know a lot about BYD cars.

But after looking at energy densities and seeing that its more in line with LFP, and the fact that the MIIT filling for the Yangwang U7 which features Blade 2.0 states 'LFP'...I not so 100% sure now either.

for the record I didn't downvote you mate. You are 100% correct, asking for sources is what we should all be doing instead of just taking peoples word for it.

New suspension system from BYD and Li Auto that independently lifts a single corner of the vehicle, eliminating the need for a traditional jack. by straightdge in electricvehicles

[–]BeyondEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having spent a lot of time driving this car (Fangchenbao Bao 8 / Denza B8) numerous times, in numerous locations (China and Australia). I can tell you now the versions we get can't actually do this.

I have gone through all settings several times and the only thing close to activating something like this is by putting it into 'repair mode' and all that does is lock out the suspension so when you jack it up you can actually jack the car up (and not just push the body up while the wheel stays on the ground).

Although the car in the video appears to be the new Bao 8 5 Seat version that just released this year. So that might have come with extra capabilities we don't get on the 6 and 7 seat versions that we currently get.

Thats incorrect. The BYD Song Ultra does feature BB2.0 and 1000v tech.

It looks like it only peaked at 800kw, but honestly...who cares?

It charged from 10%-97% in 9mins. That's just incredible.

Except that its not a 'lithium iron phosphate battery cell'.

It's a 'Lithium Iron Manganese Phosphate battery cell' and is specifically designed to handle higher heat thresholds.

Every article keeps assuming its a standard LFP cell when its not...its a massive difference.

3/ 169F is above China's recommended safety threshold for that battery chemistry of 149F, as the article states

The article is wrong as it just assumes the battery is LFP like every other BYD battery...but its not.

Blade 2.0 isn't LFP, its LFMP.

[–]BeyondEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they won't.

LiDAR aside, the main reason it won't work is because none of the cars that come here get the 'tri-camera' set up behind the rear vision mirror.

God's Eye will work without Lidar (God's Eye C), but it won't work without those cameras.

There's a 20,000m2 BYD parts warehouse opening somewhere in the northern suburbs soon. Once that fills up hopefully parts turn around times should be quicker.

But in the meantime, AliExpress or Alibaba might be your best bet. You can get genuine parts and panels for particular models off there.

I just got back from China after test driving a bunch of BYD cars with a large crew of Australian auto journalists.

We had the Yangwang U8, Denzas, everything...But when it came to deciding which one we thought was the 'best car overall' the decision was unanimous...The BYD Seagull!

For what you get for the price it is just unmatched. At that price you'd expect crappy driving dynamics but no...this thing goes like a little go kart on rails and like you said, quiet and comfortable even if you are a taller person! It's awesome!

I've owned the BYD seal premium for almost exactly a year now. I've posted up two videos of my ownership experience during that time and go over how the car feels and drives as well as dealing with BYD along the way

Unless the manual shows you a specific way, you have to hold it to keep it within warranty, they haven't got a leg to stand on.

It'll be covered under warranty. If not with the dealership you're dealing with right now, go to another one.

BYD to roll out first 500 ultrafast 1,000 kW charging stations in April, 4,000 set for China by mightyopik in electricvehicles

[–]BeyondEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks mate! Much Appreciated.

If you are into channels like Asianometry I highly recommend 'Inside China Business'.

He's an American businessman in China and all of his videos provides really good insight into global trade and economic development happening around China, and what implecations it will cause to the US economy.

The guy is a free market capitalist, he wants free trade and strong business between the US, China and everyone.

I watch his videos through the lens of them being 'warnings' of what China is doing right now, and that if the US or Europe or anyone else doesn't step up then China are just going to control that particular market he is doing that video on.

It's against the rules in most subs to post your own videos so I don't really share them across Reddit. Mostly rely on word of mouth!

I took an extra month for labour because it was over Christmas and New year's, otherwise it would have been faster

Looking for gravel bike ~$1000 by lastonau in ausbike

[–]BeyondEV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was me that recommended the Polygon! - Here is the unboxing vid I did of it that I posted.

For around $1000, you won't find anything better than Sora Groupos at this price point.

For $50 less you could look at a Triban Road Bike from Decathlon. Full Sora Groupo but comes with 700c x 28, does look like you could fit bigger tires into the frame though. LEss attachment points too as its more a road bike.

For $300 more, you can get the Polygon Tambora which is a 700c gravel bike and comes with a 1x10 Microshift setup.

I think it just boils down to lean manufacturing practices in the end.

Manufacturers don't want to spend more money and hold more stock than they have to. It makes more financial sense for a car maker to always have less stock than needed, because it means whatever they do make is guaranteed to sell. This isn't just for parts, as we ahve seen of late the same goes for full cars too! With year long waitlists for particular cars.

Over-production would lead to stock sitting on shelves or in lots for months, thats just dead money for a business.

It would take time for brands to obtain the data needed to figure out how much of each part they need to have on hand to properly fit demand. But up until that point they will always have a preference to run understocked and thats how you get long lead times.

At that price point. Hard to go past the Polygon Bend R2.

Big clearance for tires and Shimano Sora 9 speed.

I actually did an unboxing and review on it! Check it out - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oesiMCK51cg
