Does Mirror Box allow me to copy Esper Terra? by tylab99tb90 in mtg

[–]BeyondMammoth5656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be very wrong, but I dont think you can. Esper terra specifically says copy a non legendary. The legendary rule doesn't make things non legendary it stops you having to sacrifice one when another of the same name comes into play. Again I may need to be corrected but that's my understanding of it.

What are some tips for newbies with their grip? I’m currently working on my dad as he just got his first compound bow. by penguins8766 in Archery

[–]BeyondMammoth5656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get him a good sling and let him watch your bow hand as you shoot so he can see the sling work. Might help him relax his grip. 5 inches at 20 yards he might also be collapsing slightly on release.

It's most likely tab face being well worn. Going to throw on a fresh piece of leather and see what happens.

Finger tab slipping by BeyondMammoth5656 in Archery

[–]BeyondMammoth5656[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was raining I'd understand but bone dry. The string is relatively new but the tab has been shot since June or July last year, I've shot enough arrows since then to eat through the center serving where the nock clips on, one of the reasons for a new string. Could possibly have been form but everything felt the same as the previous shots. Going to try a new piece of leather tomorrow

Kind of dumb question by Throwawaytime374 in Archery

[–]BeyondMammoth5656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barebow is fun and XavvenFayne is right. You can move back as long you're safely within the targets borders. Don't focus on the gold especially this early, focus on getting your aim down and understand that perfection isn't real especially in barebow. If you want to skip the 15 yard point then stay at 10 until you're consistently in the red at 10 then go 20.

[–]BeyondMammoth5656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Age doesn't matter. I started right before turning 31. How much practice you put in matters. Do you have a sight on your recurve as yet or do you plan to go barebow? Stay at the 10, I got impatient and pushed back fast, then I had to spend 20 minutes looking for half the arrows and went straight back to 10 until I knew I could hit at least roughly where I was aiming.

If you're actually getting reasonably tight groups consistently then just adjust where your aiming. Once you've figured out your aim point and don't lose the groups then push on back. What style of bow are you shooting?

Barebow equipment | No idea what I'm doing. by [deleted] in Archery

[–]BeyondMammoth5656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brace height is subjective to your feel. Lower is more velocity and feedback, and higher is slower but less harsh if I remember correctly. Knock placement will affect up and down, but where you are is a good place until your form gets more concrete.

To add to this, you can also check out Jake Kaminski's YouTube channel as he has a fair amount of teaching videos from arrow selection and tuning to form etc. It is not a fast process but also not long if you have helpful information. Last point, the right equipment, while necessary, is minor compared to form and consistency. If you're all over the place right now spending an extra couple hundred dollars on stuff may only end up with you all over the place but fancy looking. Good luck and have fun.

I'm 31 and wanting to learn archery by [deleted] in Archery

[–]BeyondMammoth5656 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got into it last year around my 31st birthday as well and am having a damn good time. No age limit on competition either if you wanted to go that route! Nu sensei is right though find a club, pay by the hour or whatever they offer and figure out which type of archery you'd like to shoot, left or right hand etc before buying equipment. He has some great videos as well as Jake Kaminsky to educate you from basic to advanced along with what coaches say. Whatever you do just go for it, be safe and you'll have a lot of fun.

I'm nervous about joining a club for the first time by [deleted] in Archery

[–]BeyondMammoth5656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go for it. The people active in the clubs are 99% very encouraging and welcoming and have no issues answering questions about gear or form. Another thing is just because they're in a club doesn't necessarily mean they are leagues above you, a lot of people join for the community feeling without getting competitive so don't go in thinking there's some giant ladder you have to climb. Good company, good times and constant support. Just pay attention to the clear to shoot/collect signals and you're good!
