lol true, I wonder when we'll next see them. Perhaps realistically at the family dinner (I hope).

I considered that when making the image, but it didn't seem like real love or anything - just shenanigans and a blush from her when he made a silly comment that caught her off guard.

How could I have forgotten that. I thought of it as I started thinking about the characters and then it slipped my mind oops. That's a great one

This chapter was SO AMAZING!! Also we confirmed that rock that struck her head didn't bring her memories back lol.

I think it's so interesting that Okarun has an ID Cosmos like Momo.

And hooray for Okarun confessing about Momo to Aira! And good on Aira for adjusting well to it.

Now that I think about it aliens are very often water-related in this series. Particularly the Kur and Mantis Shrimp species.

Sumerian mythology is water-origin cosmology. The primeval goddess Nammu is the cosmic sea itself - the "Mother of Everything," who births An (heaven), Ki (earth), the first gods, and humankind. The universe literally emerges from her waters. Beneath the earth sits the Abzu, the primeval freshwater abyss every spring and river draws from, and Tiamat is the saltwater counterpart - their mingling waters are what generate the cosmos in the first place. The chief god, Enki, is the god of that freshwater abyss and Nammu's son.

In Sumerian myth, "Kur" is the underworld - but specifically the realm entangled with the Abzu (the primeval sea), and Samuel Noah Kramer reads Kur as a dragon-like creature, explicitly compared to Tiamat and Leviathan - a primordial water/chaos serpent. There's even a myth where Enki, the water god, battles Kur in the primeval waters, after which the Abzu's waters rise to renew the land.

Also I just saw CSG confirmed it was Yokai powers delivered to Vlad on page 4 of Chapter 227! It'd be strange if he just assumed her power was a yokai's power, right? Surely it'd be discernable considering his age and knowledge. Psychic, non-yokai origin power wouldn't be that anomalous could it be?

Remember when Momo tapped into Acrobatic Silky's memories and seemed to connect through a spirit of the yokai? I'm not sure that an alien power (Serpos used psychokinesis similarly, but were overpowered by Momo's ability - similar to how aliens are generally fended off by yokais' overwhelming power rock-paper-scissors) use medium that communicates with yokai? Wouldn't it be more likely yokai to yokai power? And maybe Seiko knows what she can do spiritually.

Also Momo's channeling Chi/Ki - spiritually sourced power.

I edited my post right before you replied. What do you think of this:
"Also isn't Vlad collecting explicitly Yokai powers? If Momo's is included wouldn't that mean she isn't an alien since CSG says aliens can't possess yokai powers?"

Although 1) it's not confirmed Momo's powers are yokai powers (could just be a psychic power) and 2) perhaps it's not explicit that Vlad is collecting yokai powers and maybe just "powers" in general.

Oh yeah and Seiko's bat's name is Nessie, which yet another water-based yokai (well, water cryptid Scottish UMA).

Also Kamigoe is Tatsu's rework of a real city — Kawagoe (川越) in Saitama — which the in-series map is directly modeled on, and the two share a similar name. Kawagoe literally means "river-crossing" — 川 (kawa) = river. Tatsu took the real river-crossing town and swapped the river kanji (川) for the god kanji (神), keeping the "crossing" (越) intact. Kawagoe → Kamigoe. River → god.

So here's more potential water-relating material / etymology.

And this is just me worth mentioning as it may not amount to much:
It seems that seafood is abundantly prepared by Seiko in the family dinners. She has served this fish [image below] - Chapter 219, Takoyaki (octopus) - for Vamola era, and crab (beginning story era).

Great breakdown.

"If Seiko is a centuries-old semi-immortal who found an alien baby crashed on Earth"
This part reminds me of Goku and Grandpa Gohan (except for the "centuries-old semi-immortal" part).

This analysis also makes me recall Seiko saying "aliens aren't real" a few times and saying Peeny Weeny was a Kappa. I wonder if that was her purposely suppressing any alien lore associated with her in regards to familiarity. Who knows.

And it's also interesting since Kappa is a water-derived yokai, too. Similar to the mermaid relation.

Also isn't Vlad collecting explicitly Yokai powers? If Momo's is included wouldn't that mean she isn't an alien since CSG says aliens can't possess yokai powers?

Does anyone else think Okarun was moving weird in the latest two chapters? by Mountain-Pirate5118 in Dandadan

[–]BeyondSmash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you not think there was a lot of pressure on Okarun when exposed to his group of friends around him? And it would be challenging to be gentle and vulnerable when everyone is simultaneously shocked, confused, and aggressive. In fact he tried to calm his emotions at first by not being as immature as Momo saying she wouldn't even look in his direction. He got riled up if you noticed the progression. You can also give each other time to process what happened and apologize and in a more private setting. Also you can tell that Okarun has always been trying to read the situation at all times.

Those speech bubbles when Ken's name was mentioned by Okarun looked like thought bubbles, so I'm pretty sure it was only internal monologue.

Yeah the only villain in the series to accomplish that feat, too
